Once again, Elena has a perception concerning Damon, an insight into his character, from time spent with him, his motivation for doing this, and even feeling sad for Damon . Then Stefan first, with knowledge of the past as to why Damon doesn't trust, goes ahead bashes his brother to change Elena's perception of him, so he can also look like the better and good brother out of all of this. All the while hiding the truth about who he is, what he has done, and his role in making Damon not trust him. Elena always finds out about this stuff after the fact, how much stuff he's been hiding from her concerning himself, but is so willing to bash Damon for all the wrong he did. Stefan's image of being "perfect" of being "good" of being "better". Covert Manipulation at it's finest.

Just realized how much Stefan's father still influences his views concerning vampires, and even his own perception concerning Katherine at times and his feeling for her.
