Lexi was 100% wrong about what she did in 1942. She had no right to get between the brothers, you have to remember she only had one side of the relationship between those two, and it was all Stefan's side. Stefan has always made Damon out to be the bad guy, remember season 1.....all Stefan. I think Stefan does it because of Guilt. Damon was right about Stefan and learning control. Also Stefan didn't mind trying to get Katherine away from Damon in 1864.

Remember the end of season 3 at the very start of the Episode when we see Elena being happy, greeting the day by turning up the music on her radio, throwing her poms poms onto her outfit, and just being happy about getting ready for school? I give you the very start of this Episode!

Also, it's important, this episode reveals how Damon knew about the sire bond when it came Tyler in Season 3. It was one of those little things that when they dropped it as information that Damon knew in season 3, you don't really ask or think about it really, but yet, how did Damon know about the Sire Bond....It's one of the beauties I love about TVD, little moments or what appears to be insignificant moments of minor information dumps, leads into the next major story point for the following season. Though I sort of hate the Sire Bond matter as a Delena shipper, I can appreciate the connected plot points and character growth and development that comes from it as well.

This is the very reason why I'm not a fan of Lexi, despite her "fan/reactor appeal". When you come to realize that she was the person responsible in Stefan developing his superiority complex that you see on display even in this episode, and in previous episodes, or later episodes. She actually made it so that the bond between the brother's remained strained much longer than it had to be. I blame her for setting up all the negative viewpoints that he has against Damon in the first place, and why he can never realize all the good he has done that we see in protecting his little brother from the real horrors of the world. The primary reason Damon acts as the "bad" guy, is to solely protect Stefan from having to deal with the horrific decisions that sometimes life requires. Damon as the big brother sees this as his duty and honor in trying to protect Stefan innocence despite even the past when he betrayed Damon concerning Katherine. All the while Damon eventually wants his brother to learn to control the bloodlust and help his brother learn moderation, Lexi sets him on the course of that truly doesn't help Stefan accept and love himself as a vampire, setting on the path of extremism that we see Stefan display. The either I'm perfect and the good guy, or I'm imperfect and the bad guy, never able to find the middle road or the yin and yang of his existence.

She was "happy" with Stefan to a certain extent, I won't deny that. Once again, it goes to back to even Pilot Episode when she talks about the reason she broke up with Matt, and then conversation we see her have with her mother in the season finale of episode 3, about her feelings. One word, Passion! Despite what she felt for Stefan, there was still something missing, like why she broke up with Matt, passion. Stefan did help in certain aspects, i won't deny that, but he didn't bring back the full passion she had for life like we saw at the start of finale of season 3. Damon brings all of that out her all of sudden, the glimpse we saw of it in that first road trip in episode 11 of season 1. We even see this to a certain extent in Season 2 when her and Stefan go to the Lake House and he talks about the future, mirroring the same exact thing that Matt had been doing. Yet, at this time what do we see in her willing to give up on her life or not responding to Stefan in the same way about a "future" together, similar to Matt bringing up things as we see Stefan bringing up in that episode. At the same time, she is once again uncovering a truth about Stefan, that he didn't reveal himself, not being open and honest about his own past or himself. The show does a really good job of connecting various scenes, conversations, and events between all the characters. In some case, the distrust she had concerning Stefan at the start of Season One, that led to the early break up, is magnified as well as we see in season 4, that has nothing to do with the sire bond., and lead to the break up in Season 4.
