Our first YouTube Short (Patreon)

We've been trying a lot of new things recently and here is yet another one! This is our first YouTube short. If you're not familiar with the concept, Shorts are short videos (duh!) of less than 1 minute in a vertical format. Similar to TikTok videos or Instagram Reels.

The reason why we are testing with this is because 

1. YouTube really really promotes Shorts at the moment, which gives us the chance to reach a much wider audience than we do today.

2. We plan to create Shorts that are connected with our longer videos and hope that these Shorts will stimulate people to watch the full version.

The length of these Shorts (I could even live with 30 seconds) is great for triggering people to watch longer movies. For example, I watched this one while filling the car at the gas station. Idle time well spent! One thing tho: it should be a appetising, lifting-the-curtain sort of teaser which gives a truthfull idea of what to expect in the full length video. Just my opinion...

This is the first I'd heard of shorts. I liked it but hope a full-blown longer one would usually follow.

You're absolutely right that we could do much better 😁 We don't want to make actual teasers that are totally related to a certain long video, because we want these shorts to be able to stand on themselves. For example, this short is linked to our "First time van life" video because the idea that you need to be a bit inventive very much relates to the concept of that video. But still, it's a video on itself. In any case, we still have much to learn 😁

In fact, the full-blown video will always come first. In this example, the short relates to our "First Time Van Life" video that was published last week. The idea is that if people enjoy this short video, they will go to our channel and the first thing they'll find is a longer video related to the short one they enjoyed.
