I know the story is mostly about Lucky and Pix, and I know it won't ever permanently shift away from that, but seeing Lucky happy like this puts such a smile on my face. Pix, as he is right now, is not healthy for Lucky. I don't know if there's a future here where Pix learns to better himself because of Lucky, but I just want this adorable fluffball of an umbreon to have some peace every once in a while. I hope things can stay a little better for him, even if the pacing mandates a rollercoaster of some kind.

I'm mostly writing this to give people some perspective on Lucky's situation. Yes, Pix's reason for training Lucky is not good and yes, he wants Lucky to quit. But the training Pix is giving is specifically created for an Umbreon and is focused to shore up Lucky's weaknesses. It's extremely grueling but it's also actual training session instead some hokum that would not helped Lucky at all. Yes, Pix is not encouraging and Lucky has suffered mentally, but has anyone here thought what the alternative would have been? Lucky spend most of his life stuck inside his room being depressed to the point that he does not even know any moves. His first showing went so bad that other rookies openly laughed at him. What do you think would happened if he was part of the normal training sessions? He'd be the weakest there and a dark type just to make things worse. Some of the non dark types would definitely mock him either to his face or his back. They would had used the 1on1 sessions as an excuse to bully him. The training itself would been less frequent and less intense while also being more general, so Lucky wouldn't even have the same chance to improve as he currently has. It would also shown Lucky just how far away he's from others and disheartened him even more. I'm sure that other dark types would tried help and shield him but even that would most likely felt bad for Lucky, since he even tried to decline Nova's help first. We haven't seen all of the higher ups yet but I feel like most of them at least would had tried to root out the mocking and bullying but I don't think it would been enough. There would had been lots of after hour gossiping and mockery. If you think Lucky's crash out with Nova was bad, just image what it would been if he'd been the laughing stock of the society. I personally think that Pix's training was the best thing that could had happened to Lucky as the private training shielded him from general mockery and allowed him to show success in these pages. (In case people think that Pix is not training Lucky, page 25 states that Pix is actually going to train him properly. It's in "The Pix standard" so extremely hard but it's still what Pix considers proper training. They haven't just got to combat training yet.) Edit: "the best thing that could had happened" does not mean that I think Lucky having an mental breakdown is a good thing. I mean that getting a personal trainer that allows him to improve privately before any public training is honestly the best he could get in the this story's world.

so basically , pix was training lucky relentlessly at his level , with 0 approval so lucky thought he was just useless due to the lack of visible improvement when it's just pix doing it wrong compared to the rest when it comes to making lucky understand his progress or am i wrong ?

I think thats the point, we are supposed to dislike the character as we know it but that doesn't mean they are inherently terrible people just flawed. Flawed people can be reasoned with when you help heal their flaw.

(I'm late to this but I still want to share my thoughts on it.) Pix's "training" has worked in some physical regards, but it still missed the most important part of coaching someone: clear feedback and supportive reinforcement. Lucky was one of the weaker recruits but still has traits and talents that the others don't have, and I'm happy that he's finally getting the support he truly deserves. Also, I like that Grauf noticed a red flag from Pix's training and wants to encourage Lucky to be better. I can't wait to see what's next!

i get having dislikable characters, but i did wish pix had some redeeming qualities to him so there are reasons to like and / or care about him, but maybe itll come later. idk thats just me ig

Yes, I'm really looking forward on how this will pan out. Lucky will most likely leave the training session with newfound confidence on himself and with the knowledge that Pix's training does actually work (with some major pain points). It's going to be interesting to see if he will keep things as they are or if he will try to assert himself to fix those pain points. We also haven't seen Pix's current feelings for the situation for a while now. Is he feeling frustrated? Is he starting to get used to Lucky? Is part of him starting to see that Lucky might actually be worth his time? Or is he actually close to breakdown due to his myriad of personal issues? So many ways this could go on and I can't wait to see it.
