Definitely understandable why this didn´t become a trilogy. Like first movies have to do a lot of heavy lifting with exposition and worldbuilding and this did a very poor job at doing this. For example I would have just cut the "Alec is almost dying" thing entirely. It was there to give Magnus anything to do in this movie, and I guess to hint at them being a thing? But it kinda just wasted time. And some things were clearly meant to get explained later down the line, like Simon eventually turning into a vampire which didn´t happen yet. The whole.... "Clary and Jace" thing probably should have been cut too. I know the "we are siblings" thing is kinda an important plotpoint, but it just felt weird with how little time the movie had to take it back. They just threw in a line for Hodge where he implies that Valentine is lying, but Clary and Jace don´t know that and in the end they are just kinda cool with assuming that Valentine probably lied. So yeah... not a "fantastic" movie... but its interesting to see what they did with it, and how much better the show did things.
