The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Episode 2 Last Christmas

I feel like you have a little bit of rose-colored glasses with Jere because he's so likable in the show. (I hope that's not offensive). The show humanizes and makes all the characters more likable, but at their core they all maintain their core flaws. Jere has shown a tendency to be this type of guy in the show. In the book, it's a flashing neon sign, but it's still in the show, just more subtle. Jere was the type of guy in season 1 that you could easily see in a frat, blowing off school, shrugging off responsibilities, not thinking about the consequences, not thinking of other's feelings, comfortable manipulating people and situations often, etc. When he cares about you, when he wants to impress you, when he's happy, he's super charming, sweet, fun, etc. He matured a little in season 2 and even in these first 2 episodes I see a little more of that. He was supportive of Belly going to Paris and didn't guilt trip her into staying, which I think is something season 1/2 Jeremiah might have done, so it's nice to see that even with the bad things he's doing, he's also grown and become more mature in other ways. That said, even the growing he did in season 2, didn't significantly change things. For example, in season 2, he dumped all the nitty, gritty, problem solving aspects of losing the summer house onto Conrad while also lashing out at Conrad for taking control of things and not letting people have a say. He was mature about insisting that Belly and Conrad talk at the end of season 2 and that this time he would be mature about it, but then we see in the flashback that the first time they spent time with Conrad after the motel, he was all over Belly without a thought to how Conrad, or even Belly, would feel. All his good qualities don't erase who he is and how he acts when he's angry and hurt, when he manipulates people to get what he wants (no, I don't mean the firework scene), when he disregards how his actions make other people feel because it's more convenient for him, etc. The same way I said that the good doesn't erase the bad, the bad doesn't erase the good. He's undeniably a likable character, but he's always shown the potential to be this guy, especially at this time in his life when he's still learning and finding himself. I don't want to make it seem like I'm saying only Jere has these faults. Belly and Conrad share some of these core flaws (and have their own individual ones),. We see the red flags Belly and Conrad have and how it affects them and others because the consequences of their decisions/feelings have rippled further and bigger than any of Jere's to date. His actions have always been like little pebbles in a pond, never making a true impression or splash because they're subtle, undermined, or overpowered. This is the first time Jere has been caught/called out for his poor actions and it's because cheating/not cheating on Belly and lying about it is a huge pebble in the water. I don't know if that last part makes sense at all, but I don't think they're forcing Jere to be a bad guy. I think they're finally highlighting his flaws like they do everyone else.

No offense taken, I like to hear opposing sides! I definitely have a different view of all those situations. I watched the show before I read the books, and Jeremiah really is so different in the show. If I read the books first, I might not feel the same way, but for the 1st 2 seasons and no book knowledge I will always be Team Jer 100%. I need examples of him being manipulative, because I don't really recall any. I do appreciate not using the fireworks scene though LOL I can definitely see the signs of Jeremiah in seasons 1 and 2 being the type of person to shrug off responsibilities, but I felt it was never with anything huge. I feel like it was also shown that he was immature because Adam never trusted him with anything mature and always put the heavy things on Conrad. He kind of just fell into playing that role because that's who Adam saw him as, he never felt important enough for anyone to have focus on him, so he became the lovable goof ball, and Sus's sunshine boy. I don't think it was because he didn't care, I think it came from a place of pain. When it came time to step up and take care of Susannah after she became terminal he was the only one who did, Conrad and Adam were mia. He was even paying bills, doing house work, ect. with noones help. Which shows me that when things get real and serious, he will and can take control of important situations. That's why this whole college thing felt so weird and strange to me. I feel like he either would have acted like he didn't care, or would've figured out a way to still somehow walk. I don't remember the summer house situation the same way, I feel like they were both definitely trying to save it, Jer was even the one who went to see Aunt Julia with Belly to begin with. Plus Conrad actually was hiding things from him in both seasons, so I feel him lashing out at Conrad for not letting people have a say is valid. Susannah's sickness, the house sale, his feelings for Belly. Even though I understand Conrad felt he was protecting Jer, Jer made it clear he didn't feel that way, yet Conrad continued doing it. Jer literally begged Conrad and Belly to talk so they could figure out what they were and what feelings were involved before he even considered moving forward in a relationship. He also said he would walk away so they could be together if that's what they wanted and needed to happen. I feel like a few months at least had passed by the time they next all hung out, so I don't see why Jeremiah would feel any obligation whatsoever towards making sure Belly and Conrad felt comfortable around each other. According to them, there were absolutely no emotions in volved towards each other anymore. It's also not fair to say he didn't have that conversation with them just because we didn't see it happen.

I get what youre saying about this but this goes both ways I think what the other commenter said is also true and they all have flaws and they finally highlighted Jeremiahs flaws and as a og book fan from when the books were still coming out I knew of Jeremiahs flaws and he did seem like the person at least in season 1 and was very playboyish In season 1 and pointed at all the people he had sleep with by the poll with Steven and you can say Conrad also was a playboy but not really he only ever had like 4 girlfriends the whole show which were his ex belly and his collage friend and the girl from season one so yeah at least he didn't just sleep with a bunch of people randomly either he was in relationships with all these girls. So just randomly sleeping with someone after a break up or brake seems like something season one Jeremiah would do just saying

kelly earnest

But I'm a team bonrad girl since the first book came out I wanted her to end up with Conrad the whole book series as I was reading it so Ryan the same goes for the show and I look at the show the same way I do the books and hope I see the same ending for it as well

kelly earnest

Why doe this thing like to auto correct yeah to rayn lol

I definitely agree that this is Jeremiah’s season to have his flaws shown for sure! I think I’m just having a hard time with that because of the way they are doing to. They showed so much growth in him by the end of season two, and now it just feels like they are going backwards. I really think it is also the way people perceive things too, though. Like I didn’t take him as a playboy in season one, I took him as a teenager who like to hook up with people. There’s nothing wrong with that because he wasn’t dating anyone, so he wasn’t hurting anybody. If anything that kind of proves how he viewed hooking up with Lacey, that’s who he is and what he does when he is single. He doesn’t view purely physical relationships the same way belly does, and made it clear that if he knew they were going to get back together, he wouldn’t have done it.

Jessie Dobbie Reactions

To be honest at this point, Conrad seems to be maturing so much and their moments are really cute together. I did not like old Conrad, but new Conrad is definitely growing on me.

kelly earnest

Ok but that just the way Conrad took grief as everyone does take it differently and that why I am team conrad cuz he's misunderstood sometimes and I relate more to him cuz something similar happened to me when I was around Conrads age and I kind of acted out the same way he is but how you deal with grief if your personal way and I think everyone's way of doing it is different and I can't judge someone based off how they act when they are griefing and they knew about it all along and carried it with them alone so I get Conrad in season one and two

kelly earnest

I knew of my loved one dying as well exactly like Conrad did and I became a closed off person and lashed out at people as well and I lost a lot of relationships because of it and I went to therapy after a while and I got better and I hope Conrad does to in the end and I hope everything works out for he better for all the characters at the end

kelly earnest

You have to kind of put yourself in some characters to understand them this what I did with Conrad and I think belly always loved conrad first so yeah they just weren't right for each other at that time

kelly earnest

Also idk how they are going to end this as people are saying it's going to be Jeremiah idk though so we will just have to wait a see I guess

kelly earnest

But then again I've always seen Conrad that way though as a og book fan this book is what helped me going through what I went through even though I had already read it by then and then I reread it and I saw it differently then I did before and even though I was team Conrad before I still was but in a different way as I contected more with the characters and Conrad the most

kelly earnest

I think Conrads just misunderstood

kelly earnest

Also I also don't really agree with your statement when you said Jeremiah is single when he hooked up with Lacey cuz to belly he wasn't so that counts as cheating to me but whatever you think about the situation is your opinion but I just don't agree but I will say I agree to disagree

kelly earnest

Also I think the definition of playboy is sleeping around and not being in a actually realtionships at least to me anyways I thought this is what playboy means

kelly earnest

Yeah that exactly what ta playboy is someone who sleeps around and avoids real commitment and real relationships(so ok this is not exactly Jeremiah now but the way he was in season one at first yes until he kissed belly that is and tried to start something with her but they were not acctally together yet in season one) they focus on fun and pleasure and very social and flirty and enjoys parties have a very charming and flirty personality that sounds very like Jeremiah to me in season one at least and that from Google definition of playboy

kelly earnest

And he does still have some of those traits actually most of them except the commitment and real relationships cuz he managed to be with belly for years before he sleep with someone else even though to him they broke up but to belly they didn't they were on a break so yeah to me he still cheated

kelly earnest

That will always be my view on Jeremiah as I see the show as the same way I did in the books so yeah it's the same character and charcters so.i will always see this way to me

kelly earnest

but I will agree to disagree with you and I glad you are seeming ok with Conrad a little more

Jessie Dobbie Reactions

I def agree that everyone grieves and reacts to situations differently, and I agree that Conrad is misunderstood and deserves sympathy, but so does Jeremiah. Regardless of what his reasons were, Conrad chose to go through it alone by not telling Jer or anybody about what he knew. He did carry it for a long time, but that time also gave him space to process. Time that Jeremiah didn't have because he had no choice. He found out about Sus, she immediately became terminal, he was alone while taking care of her while carrying all of that, and then was left with grieving while at college. In regards to the Lacey situation, I think it really depends on what someone's opinion is. He said let's end it, she said fine great. So to me, it clearly ended and he was single. Belly can say she didn't truly feel that way, but it's not fair to then dismiss Jer's feelings because of that when it was literally said "let's end it" and her response was "ok". I also think that when she says it wasn't real, she means they were broken up, but she just knew they would work it out. So technically, she did think they were broken up, it's just that she felt it wasn't going to be final. I'm still not comfortable with the term "playboy" because it insinuates a negative context. The definition you bring up states "avoids relationships" and I don't think he was avoiding them, he was just not interested in them which is different.
