As a Conrad girl, I can’t explain the screech I let out when I heard the POV switch at the end of the episode. The wait to episode 5 is going to be torture 💔

5k might be pocket change for Steven 😭😭 pretty sure it would have been a loan and not him just giving it to her. Hot take laurel should have died instead of Susannah 😩 idc I hate laurel her character decline in the past 2 seasons smh

Warning long comment: I still don't take this as a butchering of Jere's character. I think it's kind of one for Belly, but I do think it's in character for Belly to not go to Paris. She has a history of being a pushover. Example, that mentality was the foundation of her relationship with Taylor prior to S1 (Taylor's the main character and I'm the sidekick, I follow whatever Taylor says about clothes, parties, etc.) until she grew more confident later in the season. And we've seen her giving into certain life decisions to be with Jere. She essentially said herself it's the real reason she went to Finch instead of another school which is consistent with book Belly and show Belly. I actually think they've really given Jere so much more maturity and thoughtfulness in the show than in the book, even with the cheating/not cheating. I fully believe this ^ and have been pleasantly surprised, but I'm going to focus on the "bad" to prove my point. Sorry. Jere showed in S1 that one of his rebound methods when hurt was to go flirt/hook up with someone else, so I don't think it's out of character for him to sleep with someone immediately. I also don't put as much weight on that as other people. It seems like that quick move on really makes people think he's a horrible person, but I don't think it does. (That said, totally get why it feels like cheating to Belly regardless of technicalities.) People grieve differently and sometimes those decisions come back to bite us in the butt. It happens. I don't think the show is making him a terrible person for it. None of the characters are saying he's unforgivable and Belly needs to stay away from him or anything. Taylor encourages Belly to take him back. I think viewers' own prejudices are what's making Jere a "terrible" person because cheating is a sensitive topic. He still has all the good qualities we love about him. He just made a mistake. With the graduation thing, I don't think it's that unbelievable that he messed up his credits. Yes, Jere grew up in S2 and stepped up for Susannah, but that doesn't come naturally to him. The responsible side where you think through all the consequences of every decision doesn't come naturally to him the way it does to someone like Conrad (sorry to pull an Adam) or Steven. Like you always point out, Jere didn't learn that stuff cause Adam pushed all the serious stuff onto Conrad and left Jere to his own devices and never took him seriously. Now it's something Jere's actively learning in all areas of his life and yeah, that started in S2, but it didn't end there. He's still growing. Also, after Susannah's death, why wouldn't Jere want to loosen up and have more fun? It was a really sad and awful time in his life and Jere is naturally a more joyful, fun person. It makes all the sense to me that the responsible side of him regressed some when he had no one relying on him anymore.  Also, in my view, in S2 when he had the chance to push off responsibility onto someone else, he did. Jere showed up at Aunt Julia's, but when that didn't work, he kind of gave up being actively involved in the problem-solving. He wanted Conrad to come up with the plan/solution about the open house, which there's nothing inherently wrong with not knowing what to do and looking to your older sibling, but that's just putting all the responsibility back on Conrad. It turns out to be Steven, taking a more active problem-solving role without any urging, who breaks the AC and ruins the open house. On the flip side, it's Jere's idea to go to the beach (later turned into the boardwalk) and mess around for the day instead of working on the issue of the house. I'm not blaming him, just pointing out that it was his natural/first response whereas Conrad's natural/first response was to keep working on the problem. In the episode where they go to the country club, Conrad was the one who came up with the Liam idea, and when he told Jere about it, Jere was dismissive and changed the topic to something unproductive. He doesn't offer to help or even just think through the idea with Conrad, brainstorm.  His conversation with Conrad the next morning is like a progress report. He just assumed Conrad would take care of the details and Conrad did. Ie: Conrad texted Liam and Jere's response is "Figured you might." So why didn't you offer to help then? He asks if Conrad is going to call the estate lawyers. No offer to help. No opinion even that might be validating to Conrad that Jere thinks this is a worthwhile option to pursue. But then he acts like he's in the thick of it with Conrad by saying that Conrad shouldn't be doing things alone anymore cause they're in it together. Except they're not. Jere assumed Conrad would do the hard parts and left him to it while he messed around with Belly. It's like when you do all the work for a group project because everyone takes advantage of the fact that you're a responsible student who cares about the grade. There's also that Conrad is the one who put the house back together. He, at minimum, let the movers in and oversaw that, painted over the graffiti on the walls, unpacked the boxes, etc. If we follow some of the logical strings that tie to those actions, then he also likely scheduled the movers for the furniture and boxes from the storage unit. He paint matched the walls and went out and bought everything he needed to fix the damage from the party. And it wasn't just Jere leaving him alone to do that work. They all just moved on and assumed it'd get done one way or another, but that is another example of Jere leaving the responsibility for someone else to pick up. This all sounds like I'm shitting on Jere, which I'm not trying to do. I just didn't get a chance to explain my comments last episode, so I'm trying to point out that this irresponsible mentality or type of behavior is not brand new to this season despite the growing up he did with Susannah's illness. For me, it's not character assassination if he's shown the tendencies in the past and they don't take away/erase his good qualities. If those 2 things don't happen, then it's just a character flaw. Again, that's just my POV. The one thing so far that I do think is slightly OOC for Jere is letting Belly give up on Paris without so much as an opposing comment. That's not consistent with what he did in S2 with Conrad and Stanford. It's different when it's your wife-to-be, I guess, but still. Even just a couple episodes ago he was insisting she go, so this is a sudden backtrack without explanation. It's a miss for me. As for Susannah's thoughts on the wedding, I kind of agree with you that she wouldn't fully be on Laurel's side, but Susannah was very vocal in S1 and S2 that she wanted Belly to experience life and be with different people and find herself before settling down. It's something she and Laurel were very much in agreement on even though Susannah dreamed about Belly marrying one of her sons. So I'm kind of torn on what I think Susannah would have said. As far as the Jere internship thing and Conrad's job at Garth. I don't think that's the same thing. Jere has no qualifications. Conrad is a top-tier student, at a great school, in the medical field. He's actually qualified to get the job at Garth regardless of what Agnes did and probably had a pretty good shot based on the fact that he scored the super coveted clinic position in the first place. Jere's not qualified for the internship at Adam's company. However, Adam is a dick who's not giving Jere a chance to prove himself. Sometimes I'm into Taylor's storyline and sometimes I'm not, it's definitely too much though. They got these extra episodes and i thought they'd use them on the epilogue but we seem to be wasting them on Taylor and her mom. I hope I'm wrong though and the epilogue gets at least 2 episodes.
