I think I understand Essek´s motivations, sure he is betraying his country. But he wants to understand the beacon to probably help his mother. At least I assume that is his reason. Just from the context of this episode it looks like reincarnation is actually real for the Kryn, but eventually when they reincarnate too much they eventually can´t distinguish their lives anymore, and thats the thing his mother is afflicted with. In the grand scheme of things that can still be a bad/wrong decision, but I can see why he is doing it. I´m so curious to see how all these characters will come together and how their different motivations will eventually allign. Like we know it will probably all be about the beacon eventually, but so far only Beau is really on that, while everyone else is doing their own things. I really like everyone so far. Not sure who my favourite is, but I´m definitely intrigued about what Caleb´s backstory is and whatever is going on with Fjord and his magic.
