I think Lemons reasoning was "If I am Zoey´s friend she will like me and want to stay away from George for my sake too" It was... desperate and not the best plan. The ironic part is, I think if Lemon gave it genuinely a try she and Zoey could have a good relationship and be friends. There have been moments that have shown that Lemon at least reluctantly respects her, like during the whole Bell thing. Or she was clearly a little empathetic when George explained to her that Zoey calling her dad is comparable to Lemon theoretically contacting her mom.
