Nah, I am sorry, you are wrong about Shep. He went into that building to save those kids who will 100% had died if he didn't. He wasn't a loose cannon, he is going through stuff (afterwards) and he is losing his temper and sure he needs some help but don't make it sound like he went into that building just because he was reckless. He knew that those kids will have died if he didn't. And honestly, he would not have such a hard time if he didn't take responsibility for what happened. On the contrary, he feels too much responsibility for the death of his partner that it's affecting his psyche.

He went in the building to save those kids, and going in the building was a selfish decision. Both things are true. As the partner of a firefighter, I will say that I’m sure a lot of firefighters would probably have done the same, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that there are rules and regulations against doing things like that when you do not have the proper gear, or back up. choosing to go into that put himself, his partner, and every single fire fighter that had to go in there after them at risk.
