With Kate - I don't think it's that she didn't want the traditional life. I think she did want that, more than anything, because she's always wanted stability and security, something she's *never* had. I just think she doesn't believe she deserves it, or is even capable of providing her child with that (being related to her father, a physical abuser, and her mom, an emotional abuser). She really believed she wasn't the type to do 'taco night', that the suburban life wasn't something she'd be capable of, because all she's ever known is what her mom thinks of her (disappointment), and running away from anything real/meaningful. Also, I think finding out she wasn't pregnant was complicated for her. On the one hand, I think she was relieved that she wasn't pregnant, and that showed her how she really felt about the future she could have had with Nathan Fillion. She thought she loved him, or maybe she actually did, but that wasn't enough to make her fight her natural instinct to run (since running is what Kate has always done). Knowing even he wasn't enough to make her stay was overwhelming for her. On the other hand, I think she was partially disappointed about not being pregnant, because that would've been a tangible, unavoidable reason to finally settle down and stop running. She would have had a real reason to stay, something to fight for. Still, that probably scared her more than anything (as in, 'this baby would have been a real, unavoidable responsibility that I'd have to confront my demons for'). Kate is a very complicated character, I don't think she ever just feels one way about a situation. She's layered nuanced and intense about pretty much everything. That's how I interpreted this part of her backstory anyway. She's never come across as a one-dimensional character to me.

There were 2 pieces of scripture on Eko’s stick: the quote you read and something from the book of John. So it appears as “Lift up your eyes and look North John”. Locke is a big believer in desitny, so who knows what that means?

I think back in season 1, Sawyer and Kate were playing the drinking game “Never have I ever.” If I recall, Sawyer said he’d never been married and Kate took a small sip and remarked it was a short marriage.

As some who often dislikes Jack post season 1, this was a very cool episode for him

Lol these six episodes work a lot better on a binge than live weekly. At the time, people were pretty frustrated with the show doubling down on love triangle stuff at the expense of starting to answer the questions that we all had. These first six episodes of season 3 are considered the low point of the series. Given how much you love them, that's very encouraging for the rest!

Mary Kate

This is my favorite episode. "I'll do anything!" "Close your eyes, Freckles" "Dammit Kate, run!" SO GOOD
