I think you might have missed a part of the prophecy of the witch in an earlier episode, when the witch told little Cersei she would be overthrown by someone younger and even more beautiful or something like that, which is obviously Margaery. Cersei is convinced that Margaery and the Tyrells in general want to harm her. Also she's afraid they might manipulate Tommen against her, so she's doing everything she can to separate the Tyrells from Tommen. And it already worked: Mace Tyrell has been sent away to deal with the Iron Bank (so he wouldn't learn of his son's imprisonment), Loras is in jail and Margaery is angry at Tommen for not freeing her brother. But as you correctly said, it's certainly a bit of a risky gamble on Cersei's part. Her ambition has always been greater than her common sense though, so it's very much in line with her character to do something reckless like that.

The Sparrows infuriate me, as all religious fanatics do. And you're right, Cersei getting in bed with them (well, metaphorically anyway - they're not her family after all) seems very short-sighted.

I think you might've missed in this episode when Jamie is on the boat, the guy is pointing out Tarth / the Sapphire Island to him, which is where Brienne is from. If you remember when Jamie was negotiating for Brienne, he (falsely) promised them a bunch of sapphires.
