Fun fact: The song that Jesse keeps humming to himself in the car--- "Fallacies"*--- is the same song he was singing way back in the episode when he was briefly hanging out with a successful old friend (when he was between homes): the married yuppie guy with a kid whose wife wouldn't even let Jesse spend the night. The good ol' days are still on his mind. You're right about the reasons for the *epic fail* at the end (and it is indeed a turning-point moment): Walter's hubris--- but another element of jealousy is briefly highlighted in the earlier scene when Junior's enjoying his coffee; WW's clearly fixated on the cup--- that says "Beneke." (You'll also notice that he only makes such mistakes when *under the influence* of something, i.e., the time he was about to go into surgery--- and mentioned a 2nd cellphone.)
