I loved your reaction! I’m excited to see what you think of the rest of the season, I’m literally obsessed with this show right now. To answer a few of your questions in 2008 they are playing in juniors and get drafted that summer but they do another season at juniors before moving up to major hockey league. Hockey runs from mid September-June depending on how far your team gets in playoffs. Their rookie year is 2010/2011 Ilya plays for Boston and Shane plays for Montreal. During that season there in an all stars game where they are on teams with players from around the league, this is the North America vs Europe game. The awards happen every year in July. The boys will be entering into their second year in the MLH. There’s more time skipping up ahead so just pay attention to years! If you have any questions I’d be happy to answer spoiler free!!

So some more clarity on the hockey aspect since you were wondering. Shane plays for Montreal and Ilya plays for Boston which is apart of the Major League of Hockey (show's name for the NHL in real life). But occasionally in hockey the best players from the major league American and Canadian teams will take part in various tournaments separate from their regular season games. So it might be the Olympics/All Star games/Four Nations etc. where players from one country or continent will be put on the same team and play against the others. The major league (MLH) that Shane and Ilya are in only consist of American and Canadian teams, even though many players are from Russia/Finland/Sweden etc. Hope that makes sense!
