Hey guys, I'm sorry the reaction is late! I decided to quit caffeine so I had a miserable week. I feel like a human being again so hopefully the finale will go up on time. Can't believe we're an episode away from the end.  See you all next Wednesday AHHHHHHH

Yeah for a Lexi reaction; and huzzah on kicking caffeine! I was never much of a coffee drinker, but for me it was cola for the longest time. Eventually I was able ween myself off and with very rare exceptions, I haven't looked back.

Lexi shouting out my comment that they should have flipped the Italy stuff last episode with the Slayer stuff in Damage is the highlight of my day. "Also kind of hate it, because now I'm upset that's not how the story went." Yeah, I get that a lot. Especially when I talk about Harry Potter. Or Doctor Horrible.... 👀 😒 🤷‍♂️

Let's make it loud and clear ANGEL👏🏾 ISN'T 👏🏾 BUFFY👏🏾. It's never been about beating a big bad or winning a prize or getting the girl at the end. Angel is about doing the right thing because it's the right thing. The unending struggle of good and evil, right and wrong, redemption. Angel killing the senior partners or becoming human or being Buffy, Cordy, Gwen or Nina isn't the point and it never was. It doesn't matter who he's fighting in the end the point is the fight and to continue to fight.

I think it's fun to see Nina again. She's a much better match for Angel than Cordelia ever was. I mean, she's blonde - nuff said :-P And seeing Lindsey is fun too of course. "I play this game. It's pointless, and annoys me. And yet I'm compelled to play on." Very relatable. I agree the Black Thorn is a bit of a letdown, especially with the members being these random demons from this season. But yeah, with the cancellation it's understandable.

Lorne didn't raise his hand at the end. Or, they didn't show it before we change to Hamilton's perspective of the glamor. I wonder if that means anything? He's not really a fighter and even Angel said in this episode he's more about himself than the big picture. I'm not the biggest Lorne fan but I wouldn't blame him if he dipped.

I can't wait to see your reaction to the finale. You are definitely going to absolutely hate it. Or love it. Or find it mediocre. Maybe ambivalent. Possibly elated? It'll make you seething mad. Or giving you a warm tingling sensation - but if it lasts for more than 3 hours, you should probably see a physician.... 🤣

I'm mostly okay with Nina. I think probably more than I used to be. Just about anything beats Cordelia and Angel... 🙄 And I know if the story were to continue, that the relationship probably wouldn't be endgame. In terms of progression, I think it's fine; mostly because, I don't think it 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 to be a central plot. Like, sometimes shows put too much focus on the romantic relationships between two character; especially now, but even back when Angel was on. They didn't give us much more than this in the set up for Wesley and Lilah, and that worked out fine. In the real world, at least so I hear, two people can meet and hit it off, one or both can be immediately into the other; they flirt a little, get to know one another, thing escalate physically. There doesn't need to be conflict or drama; which is conventionally the hallmark of a 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 relationship. It might not make for interesting tv content, but then that's invariably why it's not front and center. They're just having something run of the mill; which may or may not last. Wesley made the remark - a couple of times in fact - that the level of emotional intimacy, the so-called "perfect happiness" that Angel experienced with Buffy, is incredibly rare. Wesley made this observation to Cordelia all the way back in either season 1 or 2, and only circled back to it with Angel earlier this season. But the point stands. Buffy made him feel a level of joy that relieved the burden of his soul, undermining the curse, but just knowing the ramifications of that is going to be a dark cloud hanging over any future happiness. But it was also new love, for both of them; something neither had experienced in their lives - which says something for Angel, if albeit a low bar for Buffy... 👀 They both allowed their feelings to consume them that first time around, and barely reigned it in the second time. But arguably Buffy and Angel have both grown quite a bit since then. I think if even Angel and Buffy were intimate again, Angel would be able to retain his soul.

*He doesn't get visions 𝘱𝘭𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭. He specifically says in this episode that it was a one-shot deal, to put him back on the path. I don't think the kiss in "Your Welcome" was solely for transfering the visions; and I'd speculate that that was probably a retcon. But a major part of it was Cordelia getting a goodbye kiss in.

I will never not get feels when the Doyle's death scene music kicks in at the very end of the episode. The Good Fight, yeah..?

Kudos to you Lexi for kicking caffeine; I could never! Although I have gone from like 4 coffees a day to 1-2, so I call that progress 🙃

My opinion is that the previous episode was the writers reminding us that this is a fun show and a fun universe, so they wanted to throw in a little comedy and levity at the end. On another topic, Spike's (and Lexi's) comment about killing them all, could be a throwback to when Buffy met Angel in Welcome to the Hellmouth, and he said I know what you want... To kill them, to kill them all.

I actually really enjoy that the climactic finale of the show isn't taking down all of Wolfram & Hart or the senior partners, because they're not even people or demons; they're evil incarnate. You can't kill them, and I think if the show tried to, like, make a senior partner come down to earth in a human vessel or something, it would be a little silly (like what Supernatural does with all its villains) and go agains the show's premise; which is that "the good fight" never ends. It's everyday and it's tough, but it fighting it makes the world a better place worth living in. Sometimes right is right, regardless of the outcome.

Connor Blake

Personally I think Angel as a show having the restraint to NOT make its finale killing the unkillable senior partners makes it a much more realistic, nuanced interpretation of what the real-life struggle against evil and corrupted power looks like, compared to much more shallow shows like Supernatural; which essentially has the same exact story every season where some ancient evil comes back in a human vessel, they talk to it for 15 episodes and then find some ancient weapon that's the only thing that can kill it. Angel's season 5 of "can you change a system from the inside or does it just corrupt you and hurt you and your loved ones?" is a far more compelling and adult plot-line to explore.
