Bastards in Westeros are given a surname based on which area they’re from. Snow: The North Rivers: The Riverlands Pyke: The Iron Islands Stone: The Vale (East) Hill: The Westerlands Waters: Kings Landing and the area around it Storm: The Stormlands Flowers: The Reach Sand: Dorne

I haven't watched yet, but can I just assume you're a "god"....? 🤷‍♂️

The King before Robert Baratheon was King Aerys II Targaryen ... father of Viserys and Daenerys Targaryen.

Well you were right, Bran is not dead. Even better, he's awake now. Ned Stark and King Robert really feel like old friends. And the king feels like someone who stumbled into it by being a good general, but doesn't belong with all the nobles. Unlike like his wife, Cersei Lannister. There are 3 Stark children still at Winterfel: Robb, the oldest, Bran, the one who was pushed, and Rickon, the youngest. The two who went with Ned to King's Landing are Sansa and Arya. And then Jon Snow, the bastard, is on his way to the wall.

Oh, and I didn't notice any issues at all with the editing, well done!

No worries on making mistakes or not catching everything. This show just throws you into a super big world so it takes some time to get to know everything. But you're doing great!

“Such a good boy, such a good boy”…lol!!

In the book version of the scene with Tyrion and his siblings at breakfast, Tyrion says of Bran, "They keep him alive with honey and water, or else he would starve to death." I normally wouldn't get into what the books do differently, but this isn't a spoiler, just a clarification.

fun fact, when I first watched the show I got so upset over the direwolf dying that I immediately dropped it and didn't pick it up again for like two months xD

In regards to the lineage of kings just from the first two episodes you can glean that: The father of Daenerys and Viserys Targaryen was the actual king back in the day. Something involving Neds sister happened that lead to the Starks and Baratheons (like the current king Robert Baratheon) rising up in a rebellion against the crown. The rebellion ended in Daenerys and Viserys having to flee the continent and Robert seizing the throne for himself. This is also why Robert doesn't care that Jaime Lannister (Tyrions brother) killed the previous king since he was actively fighting a war against that king. Oh and don't worry about missing stuff in the beginning, the show just throws waaay too many names and dates at you that you don't have the context for at first - however, that actually makes the show super rewatchable since on your second go there are like 5000 conversations that suddenly make sense because you know the context already xD

I feel like even conventional nobility (or even lesser family lines) and especially until fairly recently, an illegitimate child would not be given the proper family name; especially where that would bestow any kind of privilege. Nowadays, at least in some parts of the world, you can pretty much give a child any last name you want; and it doesn't matter because it doesn't really mean anything now. Go back a few hundred years and the average person didn't really have a surname. People moved around so little, and lived in such small villages, you just knew everyone. The nobility were generally the first to begin using surnames and titles to pass on to their 𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 heirs; and their illegitimate offspring get nothing. Subsequently, it became a more popular convention among more common people, but a lot of surnames were derived from the jobs their families held, or after the village they were from. Smiths and O'Reillys; and of course the Johnsons kind of speaks for itself.

With the last order of succession, how the current king became king and all that - I don't actually know the answer, as I've never actually watched the show or read the books. It wouldn't have to have been the current king's father; it could have been his brother or some other relation. The line of succession generally runs through the eldest offspring of the previous monarch, if they exist. If a monarch has no heirs when they die, it goes to any siblings they may have, starting with the next eldest or the siblings children if the siblings precede the monarch in death. So the current king could have been the cousin or nephew of the previous one, for example; and may or may not have had any fealty to him and thus had no qualms with him being killed and assuming the throne.
