Only 45mages have ever passed the exam as a whole. In 80 years of it being ran every 3 years in 2 locations. With a test where 1 person passing it out of about 50 is usual it makes sense there will be extremely high standards.

So the thing people usually misunderstand is that that it’s not the tests mandate to pass anyone- and the Proctor’s aren’t teachers. This absurdly high standard is basically the bar set by Serie, if you can’t match it then you’re just too weak- the association is not actively trying to expand the ranks of first class mages or anything similar… honestly the sole purpose of this test seems to be gatekeeping the privilege that is a Spell from Serie. It’s a lot like the Hunter’s Exam, nobody wants to help you, if you’re too weak you wash out.

The purpose of the first class mage exam isn’t to teach people to be first class mages it’s to test if someone is worthy. The proctors aren’t teachers their evaluators. If everyone fails it’s not because they failed to teach them (they aren’t their teachers) it’s because they weren’t good enough.

Y’all pointed out the chefs name was Lecker. It means “delicious” in German as well as Dutch. I think there’s a fair amount of overlap between the languages.

Frieren did what Himmel talked to her about. She helped those two girls she was on the team with and changed their lives and made them happier even if it was just in a little way. So Frieren realized that and has the happiest smile she has ever seemingly had so far. She understood what Himmel meant in that moment. Himmel the greatest hero but also the wisest human. Dude is amazing.

Is that how sorcerers are defined, in comparison to mages, wizards, etc?

in D&D (5e at least) yes. Wizards get magic through study, and carry around their spells in a spell book. Sorcerers on the other hand just kind of have innate magical abilities and kind of just wing it, doing whatever feels right. This is of course just how D&D chose to use the terms, which in reality don't have single defined definitions.

I it has been stated that many years go by without a single person passing. Multiple people can pass at a time, it just isn’t too consistent
