Fun fact, Sam Riegel was also in an occopella group in college (no idea if I'm spelling it right)

Mark O'Leary

Fun fact: The Scanbo sequence was just Sam completely winging it in the campaign. He acknowledged that he should've just retreated and asked for help, but he wanted to have fun while he was there and managed to make all the right moves in his rampage.

HBelmont67

Man, that cliffhanger is MEAN! 😰

HBelmont67

Nah. The discussion tracks are catchy

Nenny

That was 100% will of the dice. He just kept rolling well and was like "ah...ok let's try this!"

HBelmont67

They may pick up on it next episode, but Prof. Anders is voiced by Brandyworth from the Atom Eve special in Invincible, as well as Gideon's dad in Gravity Falls.

Suplee215

Once it began screaming critical role is once a week. Every Thursday. Now that did go into flux as the game is no longer aired live. Began during Covid and c3 was also pre recorded episodes so we aren't sure if they are still on a once a week schedule but probably. Their home game was once whenever they had the time. Which is the bane of dnd

Cube Pylum

The potions weren't rolled in the moment to see what they were, the player just had no idea what they were but Matt did

HBelmont67

"He did not wipe, bro." I hate that I was thinking the same thing throughout this episode. 😖

StorytellerDave

It's MACHINA MONDAY AGAIN! Woo! Fun fact - This was even more one-sided in Scanlan's favor in the OG campaign. Sam went in there like an absolute CHAD and got away pretty much unscathed, however it would be near impossible to introduce all the spells that Sam used, so they did the best they could with the potions, so as to not complicate future episodes. Introducing a new power always begs the question of - why is he not using it again - in future episodes, so one time potions kinda solved that issue, he doesn't retain access to every magical effect he uses here, because they came from potions, so he only gets to keep the core ones - Bigby's Hand, Lightning Bolt and Polymorph - to make future episodes easier to manage and keep track of.

HBelmont67

So Sam/Scanlan really was just winging it. 😂

Robert Bonfante

I like that bards get their moment in this episode. The jack of all trades master of none class deserves some respect! The bane of min/maxers, bards are so much fun to play. It's great to be the Swiss army knife of the party. The only thing was I could never play the typical "horny" bard trope -- it's out of my comfort level and I wouldn't be able to take myself seriously. But the versatility is fun.

luca

i really hope you guys watch the table-to-screen after this season, it would be so fun to see!

erykahlc

there is a video on youtube that has table to screen moments for season 1 and it might be a fun watch post season 1

StorytellerDave

There weren't really any potions in the OG, Sam just was an absolute monster in that entire segment. It's like a 30 minutes scene where he just mops the floor with everyone due to some insanely good rolls from him and bad ones from Matt and some really good planning with his spells. I recommend anyone interested in it to watch the clip on youtube. It's uploaded there, no spoilers or anything, and it is just the best.

Cube Pylum

The fire breathing was 100% a potion and I'm pretty sure there was another one

cryptc

If you look at the room Scanlan was in when he polymorphed, there was Triceratop skull in the room, so that's probably why he could do it (I don't remember if it was like that in the show)

cryptc

oh and regarding Luck feat you mentioned... one member of the group does have it, but it's not Scanlan, it's Vax

Thunder Cloud

Actually, Sam just said he wanted to turn into a dinosaur, so Matt had to cannon dinosaurs into his game. It even poured over into campaign 2.

kristianc00

I think they let him do a history check and it was ruled since he's a lore bard he had heard stories of dinosaurs that worked for the spell

kristianc00

Sam regael (scanlands player) would NEVER be caught dead taking the luck feat lmao he's so chaotic and loves what failing roles brings to the story

HBelmont67

Have you been checking out My Hero Academia Vigilantes? Really liking the anime so far, and I've been reading ahead in the manga. Really hope K & M watch it on Fridays once Frieren ends, cause I need my My Hero fix while we wait for the final season

KomoUpNorth

Yes it's still every Thursday except the last one of the month. And depending on the month/holiday.

Suplee215

Is it? I know it airs every Thursday outside holidays. I'm unsure what day they film and it appears to change

Yuma Nanami

Can someone please tell Them "Scanlons Hand" is a variation of Bigby's Hand. Mage Hand isn't that powerful

ItzWicho

What I can’t stop thinking is if he just doesn’t ever do it or if he didn’t this time because someone broke into his house 😖

StorytellerDave

Yeah polymorph unlike druid shifts do not require you to have seen the creature, just know of them. That's why in C2 there's a certain form constantly being used. The downside is you do not retain your mental stats, instead you have whatever stats the beast would have. So usually that means you get dumber, unless you're Grog with an intelligence of 6 being turned into a giant eagle with an intelligence of 8.

StorytellerDave

The animation is so good in Vigilantes holy crap I love how smooth and comic book it feels and those punches and dodges are legit boxing moves they really went above and beyond what they usually did for MHA. They researched that shit!

Letts React

I figured that out after this I believe, we know now 💪🏻

Yuma Nanami

Awesome, you two are great 💜💜. Just always earked me each time mage hand was said

Ethan Kayne

Great reaction. My thoughts were that he was in shock at what just happened to his sister which is why he didn't move.

Gabi

Loved the reaction as always! You guys should do a table-to-screen video after each season so you can compare the original campaign to the show! This distraction Scanlan did to help the others is just one of many amazing things they animated!

Ocean Kim

In the scene where Scanlan asks Percy who the Sixth Barrel is for Percy's Shadow can be seen holding his pepper box to its own head.

RED

Funny enough instead of ranger I think Montana might prefer paladin with their find steed and find greater steed spell

dannydarko27

If I remember correctly in Matt's world, residuum is able to replace materials needed for spells; making it quite valuable. That's just one use for it though

dannydarko27

Scanbo comes from Scanlan going absolutely Rambo this episode. Dude had practically the whole Critical Role episode to himself and it was glorious. He was the sole reason many people started playing bards, but very few can be a Scanbo

HBelmont67

"Scanlan's probably three deep in a brothel right now." I can't tell if Vex was referring to inches or customers. 🤣🤣

Robert Bonfante

That scene took me out of the following 10 minutes of the episode. The first time I saw this episode, my germaphobia kicked in and I couldn't appreciate scenes like the guards playing a tabletop game when Scanlan bursts in. Thankfully, this is about the grossest this show gets.

demonic-myst

Resigium crystals can be used as spell components to replace spell components that have a cost so you cant replace them with a spell focus

demonic-myst

“Allways given never earned” while he demands so one else give him thousands of gold worth of research suplies and property for a exsperiment he has done nothing to earn

Name of no pepper box is a type of gun from the 1800s
