Braden Jackson

Episode 16 was so good you guys had to watch it twice 🤣

tosu

Let's goo episode 16

Michael Myrick

Hello Letts, the title is 16 instead of 26

Suplee215

Some versions of the joker in the comics has powers. They're very cagey about that and also they recently made it canon that there were 3 different jokers over batman's history. Although you also mention that one. Sometimes he does have inhumanish powers surviving the impossible

Limini

Yeaaahhhh mobbbb

Chobit

It's hereeeee

Bob Loblaw

Ubel could probably bipass Gojos infinity.

Limini

Hard to imagine cutting infinity

Limini

The girl at the end was Edel. She's the one who had hypnotism as her specialty and encountered sense first.

Limini

You're going to loooooveee mob

Limini

I can't believe there are only two episodes left

Limini

Cutting fabric is like pouring water in that way

abu

We have to consider the fact that even the easiest and smallest spell is easily detected by mana detection. Not to mention that Fern excels in that field. So Frieren’s height of magic, with such sheer scale, cannot be detected or even, recognized. Truly a testament to its name👏

Suplee215

I had a whole class in college centered on the word "genius" and what it means. It is especially interesting that this show is based on the German language. The word goes beyond just current understanding of being smart. It has a weird connection to the word "demon" and "genie" or "djinn" with the idea being that true "genius" is other worldly and chaotic and while it can do a lot of good also careful what you wish for. Also it was the demons from the first town in the north they went to that called her a genius. Im almost looking at Ubel as a foil to Fern and not Frieren with them both being at crazy levels of power and philosphy just encompassing a mage.

Suplee215

Nah. Just cut it in half. Its cut. Logically that doesn't work but logic doesnt hold Ubel back. Thats the point

HuNteR

I have a theory on the spell Frieren used or "the height of magic." If we think back to when Flame found Frieren, she was kneeling and there was evidence on the ground that the Demon general she was fighting was thrown backward with force, like Fern was. This means that she potentially knew this spell before Flame. Which might mean that this could be an Elf spell or Elf magic. It is possible all the magic we have seen so far on the show is human or demon magic and we have not been exposed to Elf magic yet.

Limini

Imagination is not the same as will. Imagination is so much more complicated. A lot of people say that Übels magic is like cheating or that she can just say she can cut whatever but the thing is you have to a) truly believe it and b) imagine it really well. a) alone is so difficult. It's like having faith in god. You can say you believe in him but do you truly???? And if you do believe in him can you convince yourself that he doesn't exist??? Or like when you do trust falls and still kinda flinch or tense up, no matter how much you trust the other person the sensation of falling makes youf body react automatically. What we believe in is so difficult to control. And I love that übel still has that limitation that she can't just bullshit it. She can't cut through magic shields bc magic shields are not something you can cut. b) I thought at the beginning that imagination would be rather easy but if you get into the nitty gritty of it it is very difficult. Like I can imagine using a laptop for example but I cannot imagine how the the laptop works, how the electricity travels through it at what time and at what speede etc. In the beginning I was hoping for Kanne to bloodbend but then I tried imagining it and I can't picture each vein in my body nor can u picture what my bladder actually looks like. Like I know how a diagram/picture of a bladder looks like but not how MY bladder looks like nor where exactly it starts and ends and how full it is. I don't even know what color my brain fluid is, so I could not accurately imagine manipulating it. Magic in that way feels like much more of a skill than just learning spells and having mana. Übel is great. Having and seeking empathy much different than frieren who learns spells through a different kind of connection

Limini

Although imagination is a big part it's not all of it. I think if you have great imagination but little mana than you are limited by your mana. Like Ehre and Scharf who can't even stand after using up their mana. They can imagine the spells they've done thatvbeford but if the juice is out it's out. I believe with fern it was similar that she just had to grow her mana as a child

Limini

This also reminds me of stark who was unable to fight the dragon the first time bc he believed he didn't stand a chance against a dragon and ended up frozen in fear but did just fine after gaining courage/conviction. He started believing he could fight it (even if he believed he couldn't finish it) and ended up killing it. Much like übel just wanted to cut the cloak but accidentally cut too deep and killed the proctor

Limini

Logic does hold her back! We've seen it and she said it herself. She can't cut defensive magic for example (as seen with Wirbel) bc it's magic and a spell made to defend, so she can't imagine cutting it. Gojos infinity would be similar. How do you cut that? What sound would that make? Übel wouldn't know and therefore couldn't. Land even said that Wirbels defensive spell was a rather simple one too

Limini

Since you mentioned it, does the German word for genius have a special connotation outside of genie/djinn? Since that would be the same etymology as the English one?

20 16

It's the hypnosis girl . You definitely saw her before

HBelmont67

Hey, Montana. Personally, I will NOT judge you for dozing off during The Dark Knight. Not the biggest fan of that trilogy either, if you can believe it. 😅

Limini

I think Frieren would probably be weak against non magic attacks? Like if someone would sneak up on her in her sleep and just hit her real hard or in general fast and hard hysical attacks without mana (since it would be undetectable) Bc if she is the height of magic as of now than the ultimate weakness would be outside of magic probby

HBelmont67

Noooo, I was hoping for My Hero Academia Vigilantes coming next! 😩😩 At least do another poll to decide, please. 🙏

Suplee215

Not special but more old timey and you see this connection in works like Faustus and old German and writers and early English writers. The connection there also exists in English it just most often uses German examples i thibk. Alsothe word "daimon" is a very similiar ajd overlapping concept with both that and the Latin "genius" referring to more neutral divine spirits than the current "demon" idea. Hence the Faust "deal woth the devil" being connected to genius along with demons.

HBelmont67

Don't get it twisted: this is the first time Sense's done this sort test in the King's Tomb, specifically with the clones. Sure, no one's passed any of her previous tests, but she doesn't proctor this kind of test every time

Æther Paradox

Wait no!!! We need yall to watch MHA Vigilante

HBelmont67

So, I don't know if Ubel qualifies as a psychopath or sociopath, but she's an INCREDIBLY fascinating character, regardless. Her magic is kinda busted, but not in a way that makes her a Mary Sue. Also, Morgan Berry does a PHENOMENAL job voicing her.

Cyan_Sky9135

Cant say I'm that excited for Mob Psycho but I'll watch your reactions nonetheless.

HBelmont67

If you noticed at the end, there were the bodies of two other mimics next to the one that had Frieren trapped. She fell for it THREE TIMES in a row. 🤣🤣

Tyshawn Evans

help how’d yall forget the first girl who got imapaled by sense 😭

HBelmont67

Ngl, I haven't watched Mov Psycho, and have no real urge to, unlike Vinland Saga. So I'm still hoping for MHA Vigilantes.

Franina

I think you guys should give it a shot. Beautiful animation with a nice story line. It’s well loved in the anime community

HBelmont67

Forreal. It doesn't feel like that long ago when they started this series. 🥲

HBelmont67

Pretty sure that's also the episode coming on YouTube tomorrow. 😅

Erin Ryan

All I can say is its peak. Literally made me want to work harder and improve myself

Victor Velazco

notice how the clone used the original zoltrak that Qual uses and not the modified human version of zoltrak? Qual’s is black and a lot bigger. The human’s version is white and smaller✨

Bob Loblaw

Nah she can picture cutting through a Jujutsu high purple uniform tho. She'll split him in half without ever knowing Limitless was there. Theoretically

HBelmont67

I noticed that, too. Probably used it cause Frieren's not a demon.

Franina

I’m really hoping for mob psycho. People have been recommending mob psycho just as much as Vinland saga. It would be a bummer if MHA vigilante’s won since people have been begging for mob psycho for the longest time. I get that a lot of people here are MHA fans but Mob Psycho has been requested so much

GooseToes

I love the detail at 30:44 there's already 2 defeated mimics on screen, she's like "third time's a charm" and gets stuck in ANOTHER mimic 😂😂

miruryuu

*what the last spell was* Throughout the episode theu talked about visualisation. Which culminated with the replica of Frieren repelling Fern by just visualising that she was repelled. This surpasses all magic which follows a system. Fern said she didn't even recognize it as a spell. This is the genius similar to what Ubel does but on larger scale

Limini

Frieren the og gacha player

Limini

I'd say neither psychopath nor sociopath since she has so much empathy. It's a secret third thing lol It doesn't show much but she has a lot of love for people. For example the way she recalls the memory with her sister is so fond

Yuma Nanami

Fern did learn Human Zoltrak, it's a basic spell so probably learned it in a beginners Book before Frieren took her on

StorytellerDave

Holy opening discussion Batman! Honestly this ep is gorgeous, and I love how philosophical it gets with the visualization and how having knowlege can become a hindrance in some cases as our own intelligence can put the seeds of doubt into our minds. Ubel is a textbook case of sometimes it's better to just not think about it and go.

Braden Jackson

Yea that’s probably how the mistake happened

Atlas Creation

Hmm she seems to be that ubel is a psychopath to me. Although she says she can empathize with people, I believe that she only intellectually understands them, not actually feel their human emotions. This goes back to land saying she is only imitating in rote when it comes to copying spells, at least that’s the connection I made. It’s similar to how real life psychopaths can intellectually understand what empathy is, but can’t actually feel it. They can replicate in their personally the FUNCTION of being empathetic, but they don’t feel it. Several key topics throughout this show may hint towards this. For example, sense mentions the difference in intellectual and intuitive understanding, demons eho share some traits to that of human psychopaths, land calling her imitations rote. Idk, that’s my take but I can totally understand if she ISNT a psychopath

Ryan Jones

As we learn in the Qual episode, Frieren personally assisted in researching Zoltraak to help humankind learn to defend against it. And in Episode 8, Lugner comments that she’s modified the spell to no longer be Zoltraak; Killer of Man, and changed it to specialize in killing demons. In this episode the copy is using the original version because it has a human opponent, so it uses the original version that’s specialized to kill humans (the black colored version), instead of the new white colored version which has been changed to specialize in killing demons.

KeanuofRivia

My theory about that move clone used on Fern is that Mana detection only senses actual spells and mana within the body. I think the attack was raw unrefined mana that isn't truly a spell so it can't be detected. Normally you take mana and turn it into a fireball via a spell. I think mana detection can't detect mana that's left the body WITHOUT being turned into an actual spell. Basically the clone hit her with pure unformed power, not a true spell

Limini

But normal mana just leaves the body without turning into a spell all the time and is detectable.

Limini

Idk it's been mentioned several times that übel is going by FEELING. What land said is actually the opposite than what you mean. Land said she copies spells without understanding the rational logic behind it bc she uses feeling to copy them. The reason she can cast magic like that is bc she can feel and believe it without intellectually understanding it.

Cornelius Ukena

the earth golem we see frieren conjure during the fight is the same one we’ve seen her create in the past, just bigger.

KeanuofRivia

So my theory on that is that the "Aura" is still technically attached to the body so its able to be sensed. My thought is that this technique somehow circumvents that and mana detection considers it separate so it doesn't work on it

Murky Muse

While this specific test is new, I think Sense always does a test that relies on cooperation between the test takers. there’s just never been a group able to get over their pride and/or distrustfulness to actually pass before.

Addy

i’ve never thought about this lol. she could just imagine cutting gojo and she probably would.

Ratus Ratus

Hell yeah im so glad you guys are watching Mob Psycho, i watched it last year and loved it way more than i expected.

Limini

What about when Kanne infuses water with mana? It's not a spell and it's seperate from her and people can still detect it

Limini

Übel truly is sukuna 2.0

Bob Loblaw

As far as I know Sukuna can't bipass infinity so I hope you aren't trying to spoil me.

Suplee215

I was making a little bit of a math joke that you can divide infinity by 2. Youre still left with infinity but it is a valid math thing unlike dividing by 0. If ubel has that logic with infinity then yea it can be cut.

HBelmont67

Anyone else kinda want Montana to wear her hair like Frieren for the finale?

KeanuofRivia

OK that one I've got no idea how to reconcile lol.

Adel

Matilda is very strong

Nataku

Frieren did allude that the last time she had to use that ability was against the demon king. Make you wonder what a monsterous battle that was to push her that far while fighting with Eisen, Heiter, and Himmel. It also shows you how pale a comparison the current mages are when they can be taken out with basic shield and attack vs frieren vs frieren that was shattering reality.

Setsuna22

The girl at the end was the one who was fighting with the two male mages in long robes against the Sensa clone when we first saw her. One of the men got hurt but the other one made it to the final group, he was the one with the long hair and mustache.

Alex Yáñez

To keep going with the fantasy theme I highly suggest watching Dungeon Meshi too!

Bryan

Her name is Edel; her family’s specialty is hypnosis magic.
