In this episode Askeladd says that everyone is a slave to something. What do you think he is a slave to?

HBelmont 24

Even though he hates Askeladd with a burning passion, the prospect of getting to duel him and avenge his father still enslaves Thorfinn to do whatever Askeladd says. What are your thoughts on the parallels drawn between Thorfinn and the slave girl Hordaland this episode? If Thorfinn became aware of his place as essentially Askeladd's slave, do you think he would even care?

HBelmont 24

Despite being at his lowest point, still completely consumed by his vengeance and hatred for Askeladd, Thorfinn still follows his father's example and offers some comfort to another slave Hordaland with the story of Vinland. What does this tell you about Thorfinn's character and how much he's changed?

Why do you think Thorfinn acts so harshly to the slave who offered him kindness and food? He asks her why she won’t just run away, do you think that she reminds him of what his father did in episode 1 with the runaway slave?
