Second!

Kaleb

peak

thevoidbender

its shovel time! I mean fight timeeeee.

Azzy Drem

The '99 adaptation will always stay the best looking.

MrCaesar

Such a phenomenal episode

Jinchuriki87

Not only does he already have the shovel ready to bury him...he does so with the man ass up No. Fucks.Given.

真嗣 • Shinji

After they finish the show it would be cool for them to react to certain episodes from 99

thevoidbender

yeah, its a little more obvious in the manga as there is a panel of him bringing the shovel to the car, but Kurapika really just was that confident.

J Valentine

At this point in the story you're just like "Oh so Nen can do anything..." and then the rest of the series happens and you realize how little that idea means lol

Franina

When the trainer says it’s impossible to conjure an unbreakable chain he’s right. The only reason why kurapika’s chains are so powerful is because he put rules on them. So he did not conjure an unbreakable chain, he conjured a chain and put rules on them to make them “unbreakable”. When they are explaining the rules about nen please don’t get into the mindset like “that’s not true because so and so did it” because nen only gets more advanced and complicated throughout the show and these rules do apply. Having that mindset will only confuse you the more you go into the show.

Cube Pylum

No one ever said conjured chains would be brittle, just that conjuring an unbreakable one is impossible which is true unless you're Kurapika

patricia jimjimcherie

As much as Uvogin deserved punishment for his crimes, I always find this episode's end incredibly sad. Kurapika who hates violence, and Uvogin who is so loyal to the Troupe who would face death before selling them out.

Tortoise Of Legends

That's a manga spoiler, it doesn't get revealed until about 300 chapters after this fight.

Brandon S

Yeah they kind of blindside you with the tanned Killua and Gon. Those two episodes originally aired the first and second week of September; the same weeks that Japanese schools resume after a month of summer vacation, where real-life kids watching the show would be seeing their real-life classmates come back to school with tans.

Swat Kat Saber

I stand by what I said, this episode is by far one of my favorites. BUT!!! Addressing the elephant in the room, thank you @Kenny for pronouncing Uvogin! *Claps*

Phoenix_mercury

Uvo and the troupe accept the risk of death with what they do, the troupe slaughtered the kurta clan(alongside who knows who else) for their eyes why wouldn't the sole Survivor seek vengeance for what happened?

Tortoise Of Legends

Pointing out something that's in the manga but not the same scene in the anime (like Kurapika's contact lenses) is one thing, but revealing something that's intentionally left for later in the story sucks. Especially for people who want to read the manga but haven't gotten to it yet.

Mary Baker

I think the point of the question about Kurapika’s revenge was how Kurapika feels carrying it out, not if it’s the ‘right’ thing to do. Kurapika says himself that hurting others (even someone who deserves it) “makes him sick.” If committing such acts makes him feel this way, then it’s possible Kurapika could fall into deeper sorrow over time, despite fulfilling his goal. He doesn’t seem happy or satisfied after killing Uvo, just empty. That’s just my opinion though 🤷‍♀️

Limini

Well, but not all of the phantom troupe did that. Like not everybody gets sent on the same mission all the time, they form sub groups and some might not even have been part of the phantom troupe when the kurta genocide happened

Limini

Kurapika is so cunty

Lettuce Pray

Kurapika going to any lengths to kill the Troupe, even threatening Melody if she revealed his past, definitely shows that he's not totally in the right state of mind. He is losing himself. He has every reason to want revenge, and I get that. But as Jake Peralta said in Brooklyn Nine-Nine: “Cool motive. Still murder.”

Limini

Introducing uvogin the episode he dies is so mean 😭😭😭

Limini

Sooooo kurapika is a phantom troupe member now, teams up with hisoka and they take over the orga?

Limini

Hisoka is set up to fight chrollo but I want to see kurapika fight him since they both have religious motifs

Fox Trot

Uvo and Gon are the two most ride or die characters in this show- so it sucks they never get to meet…

Fox Trot

My read on the whole ‘kill a member become a member’ thing is that it needs to be an official challenge. I don’t think they’d let Kurapika in to be real

Fox Trot

The Phantom Troupe are my favorite anime villains… everything that I feel the League of Villains could have done better they do. And Uvo is such a delight for the little time we get him

Saiyasha

Kurapika _brought that SHovel with him._ He was liek "This ends exactly one way, and I'm not staining the desert with his rotten corpse."

Letts React

Pretty sure the master said “whatever you conjure will be weaker than the real thing”

Cube Pylum

He never said that, his example was specifically that you could conjure a very strong and sturdy sword but it would just be more effective to buy one of similar quality because it would require less training

StorytellerDave

Okay, as someone who is new to Hunter x Hunter the way the nen powers work seem really wild. Like, some of them seem pretty straightforward and basic, and then there are some that are just SO out there, like the vacuum cleaner with teeth is freaking insane to me, but also the shadow beast that can just shrink stuff, Owl, like how does nen do that? Then again, Nen can be used to transport people into a video game world according to the Greed Island clues Gon found, so I guess it can do basically anything and everything, I am having a hard time understanding the limits of nen and I think there may be none. Maybe it is just do whatever and if you believe it hard enough it will work. They feel a bit like D&D sorcerors. Charisma casters in general. Kurapike with her vows seems a bit like Paladin oaths, swearing a big one to gain big powers, but having to keep to said oath or you become an oathbreaker and lose your powers.

Cube Pylum

Sorry if I came off as rude, hxh has so much info it's impossible to not miss something or mix things up every now and then

Tyler

Have enough confidence in yourself as Kurapika has to bring a shovel to a fight (it is confirmed not conjured, and also you can only conjure things that you have trained with for a long time, you can't just conjure whatever)

cade-carter

umm its been explained prty well You havent seen everything each category can actually do But if u match the category and work hard enough nen can potentially do anything. But its a very cost heavy power system. Transmuters can turn their aura into ANYTHING if they understand what they want to make. You could do gasoline or soap if u want. The closer you get to specialist the more magical ur powers are as well. However once u specialize in a particular type of nen it becomes hard to branch out. youll be floored by powers later though, especially if you get into the manga, they get really complicated.

sophiasmilez

The fact that he brought a shovel to the fight is wild.

StorytellerDave

Didn't they do that to the kiss mind control lady too? They like introducing characters just as they die

StorytellerDave

I still mess up his pronouns in my head tbh. There's no cishet explanation to that earring and pose

StorytellerDave

If it were like one or two guys I could see Kurapika work through the feelings and get to a healthy place by the end, but with this many people to kill there is no way he can process it all

Limini

That's different she's just a side character, uvogin had a proper fight

Limini

They're plenty of straight cis men that wear earrings, etc. Times have changed grandpa

Erin Ryan

Transmuters can turn their nen into anything like how hisoka changed his into bungee gum

Franina

Look at it like this. Nen is a very creative power system. You can basically make anything your power as long as it fits into your nen category. However there are rules and limitations to nen. As the show goes on you will be able to see more nen abilities and understand them more. Nen is very complex. I suggest that you pull up the nen chart on google and read over what each nen category can do. Once you read them and gain understanding of them you’ll see that everyone we’ve seen so far with Nen has done something perfectly within their category range. For example the vacuum cleaner. For her nen ability all she did was conjure a vacuum cleaner and probably put a rule on it to vacuum anything she tells it too. Very simple. You just have to understand the categories and then you’ll be able to appreciate it and its creativity.

StorytellerDave

Erin Ryan - No that should be conjuring, surely? Turning nen into something is how conjurers make objects, transmuters change an existing thing into something else.

StorytellerDave

Franina - The basics I completely get, summoning a vacuum cleaner seems perfectly normal, though it is a very complicated and complex thing given it is an electronic machine, but I can understand it still, however how you go from a regular vacuum cleaner to one with a mouth and tongue that can suck up an amount of just matter that is vastly greater than its size seems to violate conservation of matter to a degree that just feels weird to me right now. Another weird thing is their overlap. For example, Gon as an enhancer when he used the test, created more liquid to the point where it started overflowing. That to me seems more of a conjurer thing, since it is making more of something, rather than enhance something already there. Though I guess it could increase the volume, so it is the same amount of liquid, just bigger...then transmuters also overlap with enhancers - You could enhance a piece of metal to be stronger, or you could transmute that metal to be a stronger metal. Transmuters also overlap with conjurers to some extent too. There is also just infusing nen into object which can make them do things that enhancers can do, even if you are not an enhancer? Like the puzzle box, the nen ring, the chains of Kurapika, etc...unless those were all made by enhancers and I know technically Kurapika can be all, but his chains were strong even outside of her amped up Emperor time form. In any case, it seems very messy and complicated and not at all clear and distinct with the rules of who can do what and what are the limits, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, just means I am along for the ride and can expect characters to pull stuff out that I cannot expect.

Putrefax

So this is the first proper no-holds-barred Nen fight we get in the story, and i always enjoy how tactical the fights are rather than pulling some power of friendship bs like some other shows. And they only get more insane from here. Its a ways off, but Feitan's fight is gonna be nuts

Francisco Rubio

He doesn't feel guilty, he's just extremely tired, because of the demands of his ability, the phrases he says have a background.

London Powell

Uvo was interested at least 5 eps ago heck number hero in mha got killed after meeting them 2 eps

StorytellerDave

See, my problem with transmutation altering the qualities of Aura, is that in the test, they alter the taste of the liquid. Meaning it is not altering aura, but the properties of a physical object. Which is odd because enhancers also do the exact same thing too, they alter physical objects. I think the nen test and how nen powers actually work are not very similar. Enhancement increasing the amount of fluid seems more of a conjurer thing, whereas changing the flavour seems more of an Enhancer thing to me.

Liam Ferguson

I love how differant this anime feels to most for me personally. The first anime that usually averted my expectations with sheer violence and "F you" abilities that have rules. (In a Kenny way of thinking, the conditional nen powers feel like Quirks with their limitations and self infliction if used haphazardly) aha 😄

dannydarko27

Although someone belongs to the conjuror type that doesn't necessarily mean they can conjure any item they wish. The way I understood it was that Kurapika just is able to conjure chains because that's what he thought he needed to win against the troupe, maybe if he trained in shovels instead of chains. Then again with Emperor Time being so broken I can see why one would assume that

Brandon Ulloa

oh wait new eps Saturday not today rip

Alayna Petty

The Uvogin fights are two of the best episodes in the entire show in my opinion. They went all out with animation and voice acting. I hate Uvo but every time he dies I get a little sad we don’t get more insane fights with him

Lettuce Pray

thats what i was saying, kinda sad but should have expected it cuz of showing 3 episodes last week instead of the usual 2

Nathan

I want to warn you guys about episode 116 of the dub. They change the dialogue and unlike in solo leveling it very much hurts the scene and takes a lot of the emotional punch out of the scene.

Caitlin Millar

Am i the only one who feels bad for the phantom troupe
