Let’s goooo we actually did get it

Dominic Sanjay

Historical context: Snake is a warrior from Miklagard, which is actually the Norse name for Constantinople. Although not confirmed, it’s probable that he was part of the Varangian guard, a special unit of warriors and Vikings imported to Constantinople from Scandinavia due to their fame as ferocious fighters and raiders. This unit served as the personal guard of the emperor, which at the time would have been Basil II, at the absolute peak of the Byzantine empire. This means that Snake likely was skilled enough to be HANDPICKED to protect the most powerful man in the world, and Thorfinn was still keeping pace, unarmed, and with years of rust.

Lyrical Kell of Music

I’m sure snake would’ve fought differently if thorfinn did have have daggers but it’s kinda neat a lot of thorfinn near misses would’ve been brutal slashes if he had his daggers in the iconic reverse grip. So since thorfinn is allowing himself to slip back into that fighting stance, I wonder if subconsciously he was aiming his punch’s as if he had his daggers. If you had daggers you rarely would want to punch someone in the face so you slash slightly off center

Tyler Owens

Never been so excited for pain

Lyrical Kell of Music

Kenny kinda mentioned it but i agree, i think it’s good for thorfinns development that he didn’t win or lose the fight because of strength. He didn’t overpower snake or get overpowered. If he overpowered snake that could incline thorfinn to more readily choose violence even non lethal violence. It could start the line of logic “ I don’t want to carry any more fallen souls, so even if I’m fighting as long as I don’t kill, it’s okay for my conscience” I’m sure thorfinns stance would be more nuanced but it could boil down to this. Then if he got overpowered, that could send thorfinn spiraling, he could think along the lines of “I broke my vow of violence and did everything in my power to help and still failed, what’s the point of fighting” he could go back to a similar state as the start of the season. Totally passive, sticking too his vow no matter what, no matter what happens to the people around him or too himself.

Poor garder man, I don’t think snake actually killed him, he just accelerated it, I think the wounds he suffered in his escape were already fatal. Arnheid patched him up but he already lost so much blood, he was already knocked out for most of the day, stone cold to the touch like thorfinn said, with such shallow breathing snake didn’t realize he was just under the bed a few feet away. His chokehold and wagon ride were just the last burst of energy of a dead man :(

Tyler Owens

This show conveys the real price of war in a way few others I’ve ever seen do. In reality the ones who pay the highest price are almost always those with the least involvement in the conflict… the innocent bystanders whose lives were casually torn apart for profit, conquest, or pride.

Magnis

forgot about painland saga

HBelmont67

This is the saddest double upload 😭😭

Erin Ryan

God i forgot how tragic this episode is

SerPounceDK

i think snakes question is more about, what makes Garders life worth more than those five people he killed, Garder didnt hesitate. also yiu kinds forgetting that snake and his men are guards, not slavers. letting garder live is like letting a prisoner kill 5 cops, and then letting him back into his cell...

HBelmont67

It's super sad, but Gardar's death was kinda set in stone the moment we saw him. Think back to episode 13 opening up to Gardar's escape. He pulled a KNIFE out of his gut before leaving to find his wife. Gardar was running on borrowed time the entire time we knew him. 😥

HBelmont67

"Pain." Technically, that's three episodes later. 😭

HBelmont67

BTW, Kenny. Did Appa, Winry, or Mia win that race thing on Sunday?

Tyler

Thank you for the double drop!

Tyler

Fuck I take it back now I’m sitting here sobbing again

Letts React

It got canceled due to weather we were so sad :(

ChipHand Z

To be fair, Snake’s men who were killed by Gardar didn’t attack him for “trying to leave” as you say. Gardar bit a man’s throat off after he was actually being rather kind to Arnheid by letting her speak to Garder and tend to his wounds.

HBelmont67

Yeah, they were only referring to Fox, Badger, and Lizard (deceased) and seemed to forget Gardar killed FIVE MORE THAN THAT. Also, again. They're not slavers, they're guards.

TRIGGER WARNING: the next episode might be hard to watch

Sam Cam

gianni

ts fuckass farmland💔

Cyan_Sky9135

This whole arc was difficult to ask questions about but the people that did well done. I'm trying to ask more Vinland questions but I guess I'm just not used to this kind of show🤷🏼‍♂️

sharmarke ahmed

the next episode is a massive trigger warning its insanely hard to watch

Tyler

Not that the show ever lets you forget but next episode is truly a reminder of the brutality of this world

Westy

To add to this, we're viewing this series from a world where slavery has been abolished for generations. But to the characters in this show, it's still a regular thing for them. Snake's crew heard Gardar (a slave) killed his master and escaped. They tracked him down for the reward and he killed one of Snake's men, furthering his crimes. Upon capture, Gardar (still an escaped slave btw) killed even more of Snake's men. So yes, Snake is justifiably pissed. You can't blame Gardar for doing what he's done, but you also can't blame Snake for taking these actions, given the time period they're in. Judging a character from hundreds of years ago for doing something people these days wouldn't do is kinda weird.

HBelmont67

For manga readers only: Am I the only one who thinks Arnheid and Gardar's son Hjalti looks a LOT like Karli, the kid Thorfinn and co. will adopt in season three?

Jacob Walker

Me looking at what the next episode is: OH NO

HBelmont67

They've been doing this the entire reaction

Mekar

Wouldn't manga readers just know who Karli is? What's the point of explaining it if the intended audience is people who don't need the explanation?

HBelmont67

You're kidding right? It's so people who HAVEN'T read the manga don't get spoiled on future events, obviously.

Mortis

Thors:”there is no one it’s ok to kill”

Liam Hannan

Damn, listening to you guys debate where baby hjalti may be is so tragic. they don’t sell baby slaves. Hjalti is dead
