Jester and Fjord really caught a stray with being locked up lol Jester was actively put in danger by being invited on stage and fjord was all heroic saving people

wanira 11

Actually the bloodhunter class was created by Matt during campaign 1, during campaign 2 however was the first time someone at the table chose this class :)

wanira 11

The animation definitely got an upgrade for this show. I love the colour grading in the fights, the choreography was awesome

HBelmont67

Halfway through the season, and still using the Vox Machina background lol

HBelmont67

Sure, but Molly would have NO way if knowing that, and he's emotional, having just lost his friends and colleagues. I think we can give him a pass.

Erin Ryan

Molly gives reigen vibes lol

Erin Ryan

Can nott wait for next episode my favorite of this season

HBelmont67

The opening scene in the episode was actually the initial teaser for this show a few months before its release. Like, verbatim.

Intergalactic Pants

Yeah. It was made for Vin Diesel, who Matt ran a one shot with.

Geo23

Jester is a cleric, trickery domain subclass. She has healing abilities plus an ability called spirit guardians, which are what her unicorn hamsters are. Blood hunter was actually a class created by Matt Mercer for a one shot based on the movie 'The Last Witch Hunter' for Vin Diesel to play. Later it was added to the Exandria campaign books and more subclasses were added.

HBelmont67

Whooooo boy, next episode . . .

HBelmont67

"What, you gonna get more halter tops to show off your abs?" We sure Nott is a goblin and not a troll? 🤣🤣

zzsaturn

It’s funny because I always get more Reigen vibes from Fjord, just if we followed Reigen at an earlier point in his career. Especially their relationship with being a “fraud” and their embodiment of “fake it til you make it”. Molly doesn’t really feel insecure enough to give me Reigen vibes lol

Geese

A little bit of non-spoiler information if no one has said it yet. They're around level 4-5 at this point I believe, but obviously there was more that happened in the actual campaign in between and stuff that couldn't make it in probably due to time restraints and pacing (which I don't mind, I think the pacing this season rocks). Subclasses and class confirmations: Nott- Rogue(Arcane Trickster), Caleb-Wizard(Transmutation), Fjord-Warlock(Hexblade & pact of the blade), Jester- Cleric(Trickery Domain), Beau-Monk(Way of the Cobalt Soul), Molly-Blood hunter(subclass might be a spoiler so I'm leaving it out). More info: Way of the Cobalt Soul is a subclass created by Matt Mercer for this campaign, Matt also created blood hunter, and if I'm not mistaken the devil toad is also a homebrew monster of his. The spells I'm sure were cast this episode are: Spiritual Weapon(the lollipop), eldritch blast(fjord), cure wounds(Jester), Disguise Self(through mask of many faces-Fjord). Spells I'm not as sure of: I think fjord cast thunderous smite or maybe did an eldritch smite against the toad. Caleb cast either fireball or firebolt, not sure which. Jester was either using a re-flavored guiding bolt or maybe spirit guardians I believe when she shot the unicorn hamsters. Hope you guys are enjoying the show so far! Next episode is one of the best imo, but it can also be a rough watch because sadness so just brace yourselves.

zzsaturn

It’s really nice seeing appreciation for the group being at such lower levels! I’ve seen a lot of people complain about the group’s level of competence but starting from such a low point is something I’ve always really loved about the Mighty Nein. I love watching Caleb scramble for components, Fjord struggle in an unfamiliar world of magic, Jester’s over dependence on the Traveler, etc. It makes for way more compelling and grounded development in the long run imo.

HBelmont67

Molly has the patience of a SAINT. He has much reason to outright hate the rest of the Nein (some less deserved than others), but he doesn't act out of revenge once. He has ONE outburst in prison, which was warranted, and then is on the same page the rest of their adventure.

HBelmont67

What I've noticed is when their facial animations will randomly go up. For example, Jester calling Nott beautiful at 17:37 looks REALLY smooth.

wanira 11

Yes there is actually a guy on instagram that is one of the animators of this show who gives a detailed breakdown as to how he drew the specific facial expressions, really interesting to see. A lot of the animators and producers of this show are mega fans of the campaign which is so awesome, because they really pay attention to the smallest details to make this adaptation the best it can be :)

HBelmont67

Marisha absolutely KILLED IT with that Jester impression. 🤣🤣

HBelmont67

Looking at this show makes you realize just how strong and in-sync Vox Machina were in their show.

zzsaturn

Which makes sense given that Vox Machina had been more seasoned adventurers together at the time the show started. I love the contrast of watching a group of individuals build themselves from the ground up.

Erin Ryan

I kept thinking how pissed I would be if I was molly when I first watched lol

Erin Ryan

True its just how charismatic Molly is and how he manipulates people into feeling better is very reigen

Erin Ryan

Ooooooo new font for the discussion section? Looks nice but I kinda like the the old one better. The serif in the new one makes it too serious imo but I might just not be used to it

Erin Ryan

We love molly here he was absolutely valid for lashing out. honestly think hes under-reacting lol

HBelmont67

I mean, they're getting a new location/background soon, so it fits.

Letts React

I rendered from my laptop that doesn’t have the other Font haha will be back to normal in 2 days

Liam Ferguson

Great episode :D Also, last episode, Don't think it was because she ran out of beetles. It was because the monster over fed on all the other available ones that it didn't need to rely on her feeding them. (Or something along those lines)

HBelmont67

I sort of adore how supportive Jester is of Fjord in front of the group this episode. Hyping him up as "Captain", telling him he did a good job trying to break the wall down, and not wanting to one-up him was really sweet. Also, Fjord? Love ya, but that was a Nat 1 if I ever saw one. 🤣

𝖐𝖆𝖙𝖘𝖚𝖐𝖎 𝖇𝖆𝖐𝖚𝖌𝖔𝖆𝖙

Molly is too fine 😪 Heck even Fjord and Caleb look great this episode. What's with all the fine men in this party! 😅 Also Molly is a better man than me, I'd have been way to pissed at the rest of them to get past it that quickly lol

HBelmont67

Don't sleep on Beau and Jester. Heck Nott's appealing to, in her own unique way. ☺️

HBelmont67

Crazy how, even after JUST meeting her, Nott showed more concern for Toya than Endeavor ever did . . .

Rae ✨

seeing them start to work together in this episode is so cool, especially because the nein have so many absolutely iconic combo moves/teamwork moments throughout the campaign.

Loki

Since your were wondering, Jester is a Twilight Cleric

HamboneKablooey

I'm sure you've seen previous comments before, but just in case, Jester is a Cleric, specifically a Trickery Cleric, which is why her spells are much more whimsical than Pike's were in Vox Machina.

Erin Ryan

Nooo Essex please don't teach Mr. Evil that has merciless powerful loyal body guards how to use the all powerful magical rock

Erin Ryan

I love component based magic. Mixing different ingredients together to create a reaction, it's like mixing science and magic together so cool

HBelmont67

It's very cool to watch, but I imagine it's difficult to play lol.

HBelmont67

Is it a hot take to say I don't care about the Essex/Trent stuff in this show? Trent's a boring pure evil villain without being fun to watch, and while the stuff with Essex 's people and the Beacon is interesting, the character himself is a complete idiot. I'm here for the Mighty Nein, simple as that.

HBelmont67

And then there's Yasha. 😍

AuroraZero_

So excited for next epsiode! (I would recommend some tissues on hand 👀 you know... just in case 😅)

Matt Lievens

The Blood Hunter class was actually originally created for a one shot promoting the Vin Diesel movie The Last Witch Hunter. Vin Diesel played his character from the movie (which itself was based on a character he played in an older edition D&D campaign). His characters class didn't have a direct port in 5e, so Matt home brewed the first version of the Blood Hunter for Vin Diesel to play in the one shot. Later Matt refined the blood hunter into a real class with sub-classes and everything and published it for the world to enjoy. Molly, was the first Blood Hunter to appear in the main campaigns to my knowledge.

David L

I mean I think the Essex/Trent plotline is basically still in it's infancy, so it's all setup and no payoff for the time being. I don't know if you are really supposed to care about it right now other than as a thing that is also happening in the background of the MN's shenanigans.

Karlsmithwashere

Probably my biggest critique of the Mighty Nein is how quick everyone in the party is around Jester to dismiss her god The Traveler as “imaginary”. Considering the role gods and other entities have in the overall D&D settings, it’s a wild statement to tell someone their deity isn’t real just because he isn’t physically revealing himself.

dannydarko27

Tbf that depends on the dnd world. Exandria is rich with the history of Gods that actually walked amongst mortals, and have even bequeathed power onto plenty of people. They have literal pages and pages of recorded history to believe in. Then you have a random girl talking about a God that doesn't exist in your pantheon. Not only is she talking about a random that's never been seen before, shes also drawing countless dicks in his name; so dismissing her as crazy is even more probable in their world then it would be in any other

JaySpotTx

Also, Trent's origins actually go back to The Legend of Vox Machina (he is shown in a character's flashback scene to their village, and although not called out by name, it is DEFINITELY him and the connections to that episode have already been hinted at in earlier eps of this season and those soon to come). The other thing is the Essek and Trent stuff was not shown in the campaign, as its a PoV the PCs didn't know, it was all happening behind the scenes, as it were, with Matt knowing what their story was going to be (and it definitely shifted as the campaign progressed and the PCs made some surprising choices which caught him a lil off-guard).

dannydarko27

This series is making a point to show you need spell components, especially if you're a wizard. We know components can get costly, and Caleb is homeless with no income. So one of the biggest factors to why Caleb is so "weak" because he lacks the resources needed. Glad you picked up on that with the convo with Fjord. A school, when properly funded, is abundant with resources indeed.

Law

I can’t tell if Korra date, fight or do both with Beau

Robert Bonfante

She'll fight... and then date. And then they'll realize they are too much alike and just stay friends.

Robert Bonfante

TBF, eldritch blast is just a cantrip and Fjord is low level here.

Robert Bonfante

I feel like with this show, it's more fun to wait on the class reveals (although episode 4 is a good place to start mentioning the classes). In Vox Machina, Scanlan essentially sings out all of the classes in episode 1. I used to know of an excellent source of subclass and spells info on YouTube, but I think the content creator left or retired. I used to get a lot of info on Vox Machina from there. That said, I think you're pretty spot on with the spells. I read somewhere that the spell Jester used to defend Fjord was Spirit Guardians.

Robert Bonfante

I think part of the reason Nott and Fjord constantly go at each other is because orcs and goblin-kin (goblins, hobgoblins, bugbears) don't get along in a similar way that elves and dwarves sometimes don't get along. It's a fantasy trope.

Robert Bonfante

Trent does give Fire Lord Ozai, where he is kind of just evil for evil's sake. TBF, I find Trent fascinating. Sometimes its refreshing to get a villain that's so unapologetically evil. Trent is a pretty good representation of someone who lusts for power and has realized that being in the same orbit as the king -- being the king's mage of civil influence -- can be more rewarding than being the actual king. Trent shows hyper-nationalism -- doing evil things for empire -- but ultimately he's out here for himself and that keeps him from being a complete cartoon villain.
