I’m super partial to the very first opening: Mukanjyo by survive said the prophet. Music is fire and has one of my favorite lyrics. “I’ve paid my dues, I’ve sold my soul, so what is left for me, when I given up everything?” Epic and apt line

Also Leif doesn’t live in Thors’ village. Leif lives in Greenland. Thors and family lived in Iceland

For more context all of their ancestors fled to Iceland than leif ancestor (/family) moved to Greenland and because he’s a traveling merchant he knows like basically everyone but was extremely close to Thors

i love the moment where thorfinn says he will carry arnheid with him to vinland. this is such a beautiful reference to his conversation with einar back in episode 9, speaking about those he has killed. “i must carry their souls to a place where they can finally rest in peace.”

THANK YOU MONTANA for appreciating and noticing the direct parallels between the lyrics and energy of the OP and Thorfinn's inner struggle. To me I've always viewed it as representing Thorfinn becoming aware of the paradox behind his capacity to still commit violence out of anger alongside his oath and inability to burden committing any additional violence. In my opinion the first OP Rivers also does the a really good job of conveying Thorfinn’s inner struggle at this point of the story... his powerlessness, lack of purpose, agency and the emptiness he was feeling.

Something from the discussion made it seem like you think the manga had the content of seasons 1 and 2 reversed. That's not how it was. The first few episodes were different in the manga. The manga begins with the siege in France before jumping back to Thorfinn's backstory. The manga is told in order of episode 7 -> 8 -> 1 - 6 -> 9. The anime made this chronological, beginning the series with Thorfinn as a small child instead of having his life before Askeladd in flashback. However, by season 1 episode 9, the manga and anime were telling their stories in the same order.

The parallel to AOT is super cool though probably unintentional. Far across the sea is a peaceful land for Thorfinn but for Eren it's his enemies.
