To be fair while Meruem’s idea is crude as Netero himself called him Meruem is a newborn Brat. While intelligent and capable of great maturity he still has a bit of naivety. The fact that he’s willing to have an open discussion shows a willingness to have his ideas changed.

The king/ meruem hasn't really had an actual fight till netero, he's killed people and played basically pro board games with people that were undefeated what can be a to beat others in fights but Netero's still the first person he's had an actual fight with. Honestly still crazy how this is still one day like it's basically night now but lol this arc is crazy but beautiful and sad in many ways! Can't wait for y'all to watch more of it!!

It's kind of wild that Togashi has managed to use the battle condition of "win by making the other person admit defeat but don't kill them" three times and it feels so different every time. (Gon vs Hanzo, Gon vs Genthru, Netero vs Meruem)

After the Ant King says he wants to just talk and Netero thinks "If it was that simple I wouldn't have to do this" you can tell a part of him doesn't want to fight, there's more going on here in the world. Bro was given orders and you're right, the King could change his mind at any time and then there'd be trouble. But at least with this out come we get to see Netero's full might at this time (not 'full' full might since he's not in his prime any more but ya'know...)
