This is the episode that decided my membership to your Patreon. Can't believe it's been over a year now! So...Meruem's arc is complete. How do you feel about both Meruem and Komugi's story and their conclusion? Komugi....are you there?

Day

What were your first thoughts when komugi asked for one more game when she won?

Day

Were you satisfied with how the royal guards and the king met their end? Did you expect it to go differently?

Mark O'Leary

Pouf was an interesting character. He was so devoted to his ideal image of "the King" that he ended up acting more like the main villain of the arc than Meruem did. Do you think there was any way to avoid his fate or do you think this was just his nature?

Bryan Sanchez

Meruem “The light that illuminates all”, dies in darkness, unable to see. Meanwhile, Komugi who has always been blind, gets to see the kings face for the first time. What do you think the show is saying about what it really means to “see”?

I promise theres a question at the end of this fun Gungi fact: Kokoriko, the gungi technique developed by Komugi and used by Meruem, involves isolating the king/Marshal piece away from its “soldiers” In episode 104, we learned that there is a counter to this technique in which the Marshall piece is saved by its guards, and it leads to checkmate. In this episode, Komugi finds a way out of checkmate for the kokoriko counter with another counter (much like Meruem still has to die from the poison despite being rescued by his Guards!) then During their final unfinished game, the last two moves were: 1-5-1 King 9-5-1 King This leaves the 2 king pieces next to each other, alone on the board forever, similar to how Meruem and Komugi remain together in their final moments. (fun right? 🥲🥲) There’s a fan interpretation that their final game is almost like a marriage ceremony. How would you define what they are to each other?

Chris Collier

With that, the King has fallen. An often parroted line about this arc is that Meruem learned to be human, while Gon became a monster. Our antagonist and protagonist never even met once this whole arc. How do you feel about Meruem as we let him rest?
