I always cry during this episode and the next one. They just hit me right in the feels. I still believe Meruem is one of the best characters, especially villanous character, ever written in anime. You care about Meruem because Komugi cares, that's basically what happens. You care because she cares, and because she cares, he learns to care, which causes his transformation. And yes, Meruem had gone blind, and when Komugi is tracing his face is the first time she was actually able to make up what his face might be. 28:40 I love this question, it's always such a stable for this arc, it's something we all ask people who first watch HxH.

29:58 fun fact, Gon is only one of the five protagonists of HxH, which is why it's easy to have more storylines with other characters and follow them instead of using Gon, which is something I always loved about HxH.

My favorite guard is Pitou, and I hate Pouf so much, but I do have his funko pop bcs I love how much of a little shit he is. LMAO. Seeing Pouf meet his end like that is truly one of the highlights of the arc. Seeing Youpi die is always sad to me however. I really liked Youpi.

It ranked second behind Apothecary Diaries in the last anime slot, and has been a popular request for YEARS now. It's basically obligated to come next. If they choose just another Shonen anime like Black Clover or Naruto after this, I would be disappointed. 😞

I like to think that Meruem and Komugi will eternally play Gungi in the afterlife with Pitou, Yupee, and Poof around rooting for their king. I know the guards weren't the greatest especially Poof but I can only imagine their time in the palace Poof reading his book, Pitou on watch and Yupee just around as the perfect setting for all of them in the afterlife

I think I’m one of those weird people who absolutely loves Pouf. I think the contrast of him and Pitou is a very interesting dynamic. Pouf for all intents and purposes should be more emotionally intelligent than any of the ants (in a lot of ways he is) but none of that translates that to the king himself. He has the ability to read people’s emotional states and character design wise he’s a theater nerd with way to many emotions. On contrast Pitou is a predator, a cat who’s deadly and loves playing with her food but her sensitivity to th kings feelings just shows how kind and understanding she could be. I think Pouf is super underrated, obnoxious and over the top yes but I can’t hate him.

And another top 5 is Black Clover… I really think you guys would love the show!!! The main character is like if Bakugo and Deku had a child lol. I won’t reveal the plot but the show is really amazing! Not to be the pouf defender that you were talking about at the end, however One thing I really like about him is that his attempts to kill/erase Komugi came from a loyalty as strong as pitou’s desire to save her. He sort of wanted meruem to go down the path that a traditional chimera ant king would’ve, just conquer and take as much as they can. And that would’ve happened if humans hadn’t been added to the genome, Meruem was bound to develop individuality and non-conquering related curiosities, due to his humanity, so pouf’s whole arc is basically his useless attempt to push back the tidal wave that is humanity within the ants, but him lying to the king is technically humanity in itself, where he did something different that an ant would never do, even if it was for the king’s sake, in his mind

The people voted for shows like Apothecary Diaries and Dr Stone last time. That indicates to me that they also want something other than just more shonen anime. And I've already said what I think about the other two. Naruto is the weakest out of the Big Three, and while I initially enjoyed Black Clover, it's pretty juvenile and the DEFINITION of a standard shonen anime, with all the tropes that come with it that they would grow tired of. There's nothing really worth their time or remarkable about it it.

I stopped dr stone the first time I tried to watch it. The second time I actually gave it a try I loved it. I think the same happened to Hbelmont, so at the least it may be worthwhile to give it a second chance! Then if you still hate it at least you know for sure! Lol

It's so frustrating, cause I KNOW they would love it. Beyond just the action Naruto and Black Clover would offer, Dr Stone is enjoyable in a more intelligent way that is RIGHT up there alley. Another shonen being enjoyable isn't enough. The other two would be a waste of their time, especially with their higher episode counts. Dr Stone, meanwhile, is currently in its final season, meaning they'd be able to watch the anime in its entirety.

I ran the dr stone committee alone on this channel, (or at least in the vocal majority) for like 2 years without any chance in sight for it to be a possibility, so I'm very excited to see it as a possibility, and I'll definitely be a bit frustrated if it gets passed over again or vote assassinated again by another generic shonen. That's understandable I'd think tho, cause dr stone reactions are few and far between, so even having it be a possibility or having it on a poll is a rare and big deal. That being said, that doesn't mean I'll stop pulling for it if it doesn't win lol. But it'll really suck having to wait for black clover or naruto to end before being able to try again 😫 those are both really long

I think I stopped in s2, maybe after they had figured out the telephone stuff? I vaguely remember a big bonfire and dancing maybe, and there was some clan? I think it was just a lot of exposition episodes in a row 😂

Naruto is awesome, i'm pretty sure if you guys start you will go to shippuden because you get so involved with what happens on the lore (and shippuden is actually where things go from great to really awesome), that being said... I would recommend to checkout: Goblin Slayer (my favorite anime and light novel after HxH, it's simple, kinda D&Dish, simple goals, simple characters and nice progression.... first episode hits very hard to "shock" but its the only one that is that heavy.), Berserk, One punch man, Beastars (very heavy on social dilemmas, pretty interesting). One golden mention to end: that time i got reincarnated as a slime :D Hope you guys can enjoy any of these shows sometime!

Honestly, fair. Tbh, I didn't care much for season two, with the war stuff. At least it's the shortest season, and after, the BEST character is introduced and the story really gets going.

maybe watch Dr. Stone before Black Clover as Stone is a different type of show from any you’ve reacted to and you’d get a kick out of it. Black Clover is also worth watching but is a similar genre to a bunch of anime you’ve already seen.

One of the things that I think HxH does so well is that it's almost entirely reactive in the storytelling. Unlike a story like FMA or AoT where the author cleary has a story in mind, Hunter x Hunter really doesn't seem that way. Outside of the very vague motivation of "Find Ging" that pushes Gon forward, we are mostly just watching things happen and characters react to those things, and then other characters react and so on. I would guess that's the reason it often feels so unpredictable, which is rather impressively done by Togashi. Also y'all should defintiely watch Yu Yu Hakusho at some point; it's Togashi's earlier work and while it does show it from time to time it's still a great show. Plus it's fun to see all the seeds of ideas that eventually blossom in HxH.

another sad thing abt meruem's life is how short it was. yes he was terrible in the beginning but he literally JUST got here and was given a predestined purpose. even with those two factors, he was smart enough to come to a conclusive morality. due to his nature to be the best, he inherently learns that, though there's no way to be objectively perfect, a personal form of perfection can be achieved. and the foundation of that perfection is kindness. to care for another.

This episode was the reason I joined the Patreon, I wanted to watch your full reaction to such an impactful climax to an already powerful arc. The relationship between Meruem and Komugi is such a heartbreakingly beautiful and pure kind of love. He cares for her so deeply that it changes him on a fundamental level, and her devotion to him awakens new levels of her gungi prowess. This episode is akin to the Tale of Iroh or Maes Hughes funeral when it comes to making the most solemn of us crumble. It was wonderful sharing this moment with you both.
