Can't believe they're only a month away till the end.

Azzy Drem

I love Ging; that was master ragebaiting at play; he obviously saw that punch from 100 miles away.

Shadowstar

I've been waiting for them to watch that scene with Leorio since the start. so worth it.

HBelmont67

Unrelated, but I just finished season three of Dr Stone, and LOVED IT. Can't wait for season four. If I time it right, I might be able to catch the series finale as it airs, since it appears to be a simuldub.

Ramon Fax!

I remember when this episode first aired. The PUNCH that was heard around the world.

Knov or Morel

The medical application for leorio's power would be ultrasound

I have a theory that for the most part, people who have experienced terrible fathers and that trauma growing up hate hate hate Ging, while people lucky enough to not have a terrible father side eye him but consider other factors. personally, I think if someone knows they will be a bad parent to that child, nothing wrong with not being around them and putting that child in jeopardy. We have safe places like firehouses where teen mothers can leave their newborn if they aren't ready willing or able to raise that child, and Ging left Gon with Mito, who raised him incredibly well, better than Ging could have. Also, in the manga, Ging tried to take Gon with him on his adventures, but Mito sued Ging for custody of Gon to keep him safe and she won the case

Schlong Shucker

The craziest part about all of Ging’s horrendous shit, is that I am almost certain theres ging defenders out there

Azzy Drem

Incorrect 🤔. Here's an anecdote: I am both capable of having had nightmare parents that made life difficult, AND appreciating the nuances of Ging's actions and role in the story. Maybe don't act like Ging in deciding how we ought to feel 😇.

narutorunner

Haha I love how much you guys hate ging

hellios6

I can't really defend the things he did, but he is an awesome character. So I really like him as a character (as a person, it's more questionable). Same thing about Pariston. What's interesting is that so many people love Netero for example - but if you look at the things he did, it's quite difficult to call him a good person. He is kind of wicked as well. So it's all about perspective (and I like Netero, but he is not the saint that people make him out to be).

hellios6

I think he is very interesting

Knov or Morel

You seem defensive and very confused, when did I ever say I decide how anyone should feel? Any examples or are you just being intellectually dishonest and bad faith here, just because you disagree with my opinion. Damn hahah

hellios6

Same thing about Pariston - he is kind of a manipulative prick, but at the same time, he is one of the best written characters in HxH.

Azzy Drem

I speak on your theory. You are obviously not literally saying so, but your statement carries the implication that this MUST be so, and I indeed felt a need to offer a defense. "You seem defensive and very confused" and "are you just being intellectually dishonest and bad faith", what an excellent play 🤭; your theory was naive enough, that I felt i should interject--no hard feelings.

Phoenix_mercury

Honestly with how terrible, unreliable, wishy washy ect ging is? I'm glad he let mito raise Gon, imagine if he'd kept the poor lad with him and dragged him who knows where doing who knows what? That's no life for a young child, whereas on whale island Gon had a loving mother figure and grandmother, friends across the island that knew and cared about him, an island to explore and grow up safely on, a reliable roof over his head, regular meals, clean clothes and the ability to learn who he is

Phoenix_mercury

Copy and pasted from above: Honestly with how terrible, unreliable, wishy washy ect ging is? I'm glad he let mito raise Gon, imagine if he'd kept the poor lad with him and dragged him who knows where doing who knows what? That's no life for a young child, whereas on whale island Gon had a loving mother figure and grandmother, friends across the island that knew and cared about him, an island to explore and grow up safely on, a reliable roof over his head, regular meals, clean clothes and the ability to learn who he is

I would agree that while neither is ideal, we should consider a difference between someone just walking out and abandoning their kid versus putting the kid up for adoption because you don't think you can handle it. Also yeah while it isn't an idea that comes up in the anime, the whole idea that Ging never intended to leave Gon on Whale Island but Mito refused to let him take a small child on his adventures with him does change the calculus a bit.

Letts React

Im sorry this is FALSE, Ging is definitively a terrible father. Thinking otherwise is just delusion. At the VERY LEAST he could call him occasionally, or visit. Clearly with this proceeding he has the ability to get to Gon quick. Idk why people defend him its exhausting lol

Naruto Uzumaki

Also kenny ur right ging let leorio punch him and it has something to do with gings own abilities which if u read the manga is busted imo. If you dont MANGA SPOILER ALERT: He is a genius and can copy and refine nen abilities he had experience. He later uses leorios technique. But to be clear thats not his nen ability in the same sense bungi gum is hisokas, ging is just a genius that can he can analyze and copy people’s abilities after he sees em

Knov or Morel

I’m not defending him, I’m including nuance and context that may differ with other people’s personal perspectives, he literally lost custody in court kenny

Nic Peacock

top 10 punch in all of anime

Timothy Heck

I've been waiting for this moment! Leorio met him and immediately punched him right in the face--and everyone cheered!!! I've always been so baffled by the people who argued with you guys back in the day that "well you gotta keep in mind the woooorld isn't like our world" cuz like...that doesn't change a thing!! Even IN UNIVERSE, Ging sucks ass. He's CANONICALLY a bad dad.

cool ass fucking skeleton

Quite surprised there wasn't a question asking what you two think Kurapika is doing to be ignoring phone calls and such.

Tyler

😢

Tyler

It’s such a testament to how remarkable this story is that they are able to sideline the mc and still be this good, can’t believe how close you guys are to the end feels like it flew by.

Babybear47

I still feel it's understandable gings statement cuz would gon actually want his dad to see him while he was unconscious like dought full.

DarkHorse24

For sure. That's literally the only "good" thing ging did for gon. Still, it was very irresponsible for him to have a child he probably knew he wasn't going to raise

Phoenix_mercury

We don't know if it was a choice(planned) or a short fling that resulted in Gon and the mother dipped and left Gon with ging or the mother died(birth or afterwards cz of something unrelated), we can't say for sure that ging deliberately had a kid then went nah nvm, I'm just glad mito raised him instead

Phoenix_mercury

He isn't even really a dad, just a father and only by blood...

kon miller

i think all this discourse about ging (and i’ve kinda always felt this way) being reduced to how bad of a father he is or is not is categorically useless considering not even gon gives af about that man outside of what he can offer to him as a hunter; gon calls him by his name and not “dad,” that really should clue you in on how gon feels about him 😭 whether ging is a bad father or not (personally, i think he is a bad one, but he’s also not gon’s father because that man is a complete stranger to him) is ultimately one facet of his character, and disregarding all the ways he’s ushered in progress as a hunter for the world because he didn’t want to be in gon’s life is kinda why any conversation about nuanced characters winds up being exhausting – he’s reduced to a devil or a saint, when ging is absolutely neither of those things, and when someone points that out, suddenly they’re a “ging defender” or a “ging hater.” no, i think that’s being a “trying to engage with the text beyond just how it made me feel in the heat of the moment” advocate, or whatever, that metaphor got lost in the sauce 😭 on the other hand, while i agree that, yes, it is ultimately the responsibility of the parent to ensure their child will be safe and sound if they should decide that they’re not fit to provide for them and it is a plus if they do, ging could’ve and should’ve gone to visit gon over the years, if even once a year to see how he’s doing; he did not do this. it doesn’t matter if he’s just as bullheaded and one-track-minded as gon, that is the very definition of a deadbeat 😭 in any case, that KO punch to the jaw was extremely satisfying, and is why leorio is the realest mf ever 💪

Sol Games

hey guys, defending someone and looking at them from a different perspective are two very different things. I think Ging is a very nuanced character but that doesn't make what he did ok or make him good. Saying "hey, there' s more too this" isn't defending him. I get that you've probably been bombarded with messages defending him and getting mad at you, but that doesn't mean you have to get mad at people for discussing nuance. He IS a bad father, but he's an interesting character and I like him as a character. Boiling down any conversation about his character to "defending/glazing" or "hating" makes it REALLY hard to talk about nuance in any way. You guys talk about HISOKA more positively than about Ging. People act like Ging being a deadbeat means he's the equivalent of a serial killer. He's an amazing hunter, and we've been told how much good he's done for the world at large. Who he was as a father to Gon (which is not at all) is not ALL he is. I think that makes him really interesting. If you want to hate him with a burning passion go for it! I totally get it! But that doesn't mean people who don't hate him are defending him.

Sol Games

EXCATLY, yes, he's a bad dad, but people act like that means he's fucking serial killer. He's an amazing hunter, and even gon doesn't really care about him BEING his dad. He just want's to get to know him. You can have a million conversations about actual serial killer characters and have more luck than talking about a deadbeat character. LIKE YES, HE'S A HORRIBLE FATHER, but that's not ALL he is. It's annoying.

The Crimson King of Prim

Just an observation, but I don't believe Gon actually says that he has ever wanted Ging to go see him. I think that is what Ging meant when he asked Leorio "did Gon specifically say he wanted me to go see him." For Gon, it is his goal to find his dad. Gon's goal would be derailed and he would have failed his own "hunt" if his dad gave up on this game of hide and seek.

Matthew

Ging is not cut out for handling a child, you can call him a deadbeat till the end of time or beg for him to change who he is as a person, but Gon gets his stubbornness from his Dad so instead of raging into the abyss till the end of time like he's pulling an infinite Shou Tucker, the best thing we can do is accept that Ging is an ass who shouldn't have had a child he wasn't prepared to raise. Ging has never claimed to be a great father because he's fully aware of the relationship between him and his son, the fact that Ging and Gon can understand that a normal Father-Son relationship is out of the question between them considering their personalities and views when many people looking from the outside in can't fathom why Ging just doesn't act like they want him to is a testament to how good Togashi writes characters and how the world responds to them.
