We've heard Maomao's dad remind her that conjectures shouldn't be spoken out loud. More often than not, Maomao's conjectures seem to be true. Do you think she should continue to keep them to herself or share them?

This episode takes a dark and serious turn, with Maomao recalling the previous episode happenings. Why do you think she suddenly spoke of her execution to Jinshi?

Sparky :D

In this episode we see both Maomao and Jinshi handling notions of death and mortality, how it comes for us all whether we be an official or a servant. But even this equalizer can be scaled against those with no rank or power. What are your thoughts about Maomao reminding Jinshi of the differences in their social ranks, that he does in fact have power over her survival and in what ways do you feel it reveals Jinshi’s naivety on the matter (I.e. saying he would never execute her)

MaoMao is incredibly smart when it comes to anything science while also consistenly undermining her worth (even in the way she puts her curiosity above her own body by experimenting on herself) or how others view or feel about her (like the ladies at the palace or Jinshi). How do you think this impacts the information we receive from her as a narrator?

StorytellerDave

What do you think of the way this show presents the power dynamics of this time period, from the way Maomao was sold off in ep1 and could do nothing about it, to the way she describes her own execution in this episode?

How do you feel about Maomao being forbidden to touch corpses because her curiosity might lead her down a dark path?
