I think you misunderstood. Hinata came to Karasuno because in his eyes they were still the greatest school that once had his volleyball idol on the team. What better place to learn more about volleyball in order to kick the butt of his rival? He had no idea Kageyama would be there and was truly upset about it.

Hinata actually came to Kurasuno because his idol "the tiny giant" that we saw him watching at the very start of the show went there. He was definitely not expecting kageyama to be there. He just wanted to get strong enough to eventually beat kageyama and chose to go to kurasuno to learn

I side with Kageyama here. In order to spike the ball you have to receive it first which Hinata clearly can't do. He comes off as just wanting to do the fun part and leave the receiving to someone else. He needs to get better overall. As it stands now he is a defensive lability on the court.

Ehhh, the English dub got that across pretty well. And I'm saying that as someone who nitpicks this dub all the time, lol.

Yeah. If you are super passionate about something, it's easy for Hinata's attitude to come off as very flippant and a little insulting. But it's also why he chills a little once he realizes Hinata does actually care. Kageyama is definitely being harsh but being terrible at communication is a big character flaw of his so it makes sense.

It a little bit breezes by, but Kageyama specifically didn't have the grades to get into his first choice school. So not only was Hinata not expecting him, but he would have had active reason to expect Kageyama wouldn't be there.

The thing is, yes Kageyama is being a jerk to Hinata, but his intentions aren’t wrong. Hinata never had any kind of formal coaching and is pretty bad at the basics of volleyball bc he only ever wanted to spike. It would be like if he joined a baseball team and just wanted to hit home runs when he barely knows how to catch and throw

I always had to tell my friends to watch the entire first season before deciding whether to keep going or not bc it’s slow in the beginning but by the end of the season you’re so invested and into it

I get disliking Tsuki after this, but what did Yamaguchi do?!? 😫 he didn’t even say anything except “Aren’t you guys cold?” lol. I feel like he’s just a cutie patootie who is getting caught up in this drama because he’s friends with Tsukishima. Anyway, I love this episode so much too! I love Kageyama’s first set to Hinata. 🥹 I got chills AGAIN! I always love to see people’s perspectives on Kageyama. Yes, he’s being a jerk BUT he is right about Hinata. Hinata has no basic volleyball skill or knowledge. And I say that with all the love in my heart, Hinata is my favorite anime MC, BUT he absolutely needs to work on the basics if he wants to be a mainstay on the team. I love you guys trying to guess the nicknames 😆 that’s a fun game to play with Haikyuu! Y’all had some good guesses 🙌🏽
