Been WAITING for this episode. Maomao's finally coming around to Jinshi. 😏 Also, Maomao said they have a "no-touch" policy, but she didn't hesitate to brush Jinshi's hair aside to look at him. 🥰

Hehehe congratulations for making it to the end of light novel 1’s adaptation, the rest of season 1 is going to be covering light novel 2 and I’m VERY excited for this continuation 🤭 One quick note to keep in mind is that many of Maomao’s dialogues are internal so the part where she was listing off how “she’ll do anything, cut her pay” and in the end saying “please let me stay” she didn’t say any of that out loud— to Jinshi it just kinda sounded like she was saying she’d accept her fate if he kept her there :0!!!

In jinshis defense maomao didn't say "please just let me stay" out loud, but he should have been able to tell what she was getting at from the rest of their conversation

"Blunder of the century 😙" I freaking love Lady Gyokuyou. I think she's meant to be the audience insert when it comes to viewing Maomao and Jinshi's relationship. She always says exactly what we're thinking. 🤣

Neat that the end of light novel #1 fit so squarely in the middle of season one. The anime planned that well. That being said, they kinda fumbled with Maomao and Jinshi's miscommunication this episode. It was almost impossible to tell what dialogue was spoken out loud, and what wasn't.

Oh yeah it was a definite flub on the anime’s part lol but yeah so far each season gets 2 novels and each novel gets 12 episodes and I think they’re going to continue that pattern at least through season 3 Some of the future books I’d say don’t need a whole 12 episodes for their adaptation like I don’t think LN13 is going to need 12 episodes as it was, I believe, the shortest of the books (I’d have to double check that) but we’ll get there when we get there hehehe 🤭

Arguably Maomao's biggest flaw is that worldview is pretty rigidly tied into the social hierarchy, of which she views herself as among the lowest of the low. So in her mind she has no right to actually ask to advocate for herself to keep the job, since doing so would imply she has value which (again in her mind) she does not have. The best she can hope for is to basically say "I'm a really hard worker" and hope they arbitrarily make an exception for her.

I feel like Jinshi was giving her a chance to say she wanted to stay and she was trying to live up to the standard expected of someone of her class instead of speaking out as a way of going beyond. Basically was following the rules extra strict to show how much she could obey them. Oddly enough it reminds me of the song "santa baby" and how its seen as problematic by some while others say its just a product ofnthe time. The issue is the reverse kf the miscommunication issue that happened here.
