Sparky :D

Maomao tends to affect nonchalance, claiming that she’s only ever out to save her own skin, yet here she was willing to take a beating and nearly die to save Jinshi, when she didn’t even know it’d be him under the beam, to her she was going these lengths for a total stranger. what are your thoughts on her actions

in this episode we see a number of previous events combine into an attempt on Jinshi’s life. While trying to stop the incident Maomao is hurt by guards and injured by a fallen pillar. What do you think about the scene where Jinshi carries Maomao out of the temple in front of Lakan and other officials?

Do you believe the guard that attacked Maomao was in on the attempt on Jinshi's life, or was he just doing his job?

Dastardly Daoist

During a time with strict distinction between social classes, where the lives of those of the serving class are considered disposable, what do you think of the significance of Jinshi disregarding those barriers to carry Maomao away? Do you think the very public nature of the act will have ramifications for either Jinshi or Maomao?

The last scene in this episode is one of my favourites in the entire show, precisely for how much symbolism it holds: Jinshi sacrificing his secret identity by carrying Maomao out in the open for everyone to see, leaving behind a trail of blood... what do you think this image represents and what do you think the consequences will be?

Jinshi walks down the center pathway, which is reserved for royalty only. Essentially, a Royal Family member walks out carrying the injured lowly servant girl who was yelling earlier. Does it surprise you that Jinshi would make this kind of public statement when his status has been a hidden secret?

What we've seen of Lakan has been slimey underhanded tactics, however he steps up for his daughter not even knowing what the situation is except that she's been hit and she wants to get through to the ceremony. Do you think he's actually not as bad as he's been portrayed to us?
