Watching from Japan today! Love Fridays for new reactions and new episodes!

Actually a fun fact is the end of this episode took inspiration from the Kurata version of the manga! And her depiction of that last scene had a hand sticking out of the ground with a mushroom growing on it, I think the anime wanted to use that but chose to censor it lol In both the novel and Nekokurage versions Jinshi wasn’t even present for that last part, it was just Maomao and Gaoshun and him making the call to confiscate the mushrooms as opposed to Jinshi and while that’s fun I am happy they went in Kurata’s direction for that scene :)

So, as someone unfamiliar with AP's source material, could you enlighten me on all these names lol? I think I've gathered that Natsu is the mangaka or author, but who are these other people? Translators?

Sparky :D

Gladly! Natsu is the author of the novels, she started publishing the books in 2014 and all the stories originate from her directly, and her books have their own illustrator, Touko Shino, so if she has a design for a character already, both mangakas will defer to her design There are two mangakas, Nekokurage and Kurata, and since neither signed an exclusivity agreement with Natsu for a manga, they both tell the same story but they are different from one another both in art style and they can alter scenes slightly (such as Kurata deciding to change this last scene) The anime for the most part, has drawn from the Nekokurage version, but she’s currently behind the anime (literally the chapter she just dropped was what was covered in today’s season 3 episode) and while Kurata is ahead of Nekokurage, she’s still far behind the light novels, and the anime has been adapting from the books directly as opposed to having the mangas as a reference (but both mangakas, I believe are still involved with the anime just don’t quote me on that hehehe) And if we wanna throw another name into the mix, there’s a spinoff manga about Xiaolan during her escapades in the Rear Palce showing what she gets up to when Maomao isn’t around her, and that’s made by Itsuki Nanao who works with Nekokurage on her version of the manga

Fun? fact - Actually digging in forests breaks down pre-existing fungal networks, so when bodies are hidden it's usually weeds that grow there and not mushrooms. You can spot where bodies are buried because different plants will grow on top of the body than elsewhere in the area. It's less to do with decomposition and more to do with just shoveling the soil. It's the digging that's the primary culprit, not the body.
