Its not said in the show, but it was confirmed that Edgerunners 2 takes place in 2078 (one year after the game, and two years after season 1). Recently there was an update to 2077 that added some really cool stuff. One of which is a new mission that acts as a prequel to Edgerunners 2.

maelstrom is one of those gangs that a lot of people in the game like to shoot first before working with cause of how awful they are. they belive the less ganic someone is the better they are and see themselves as more than human. they also kidnap people to steal parts of and even to put parts on some to mess with. one fo the first side quests in the game is a monk, a group of people who dont have any implants for religious reasons, being kidnapped maelstrom and parts put on him just to mess with him

Maelstrom were formed from a merger of a cult that worshipped cybernetics (called the Iron Sights) and a neo-nazi gang (called the Red Chrome Legion). Maelstrom believes that a person's value is almost entirely dependent on how much chrome they've chipped, and they often abduct people with low cybernetic load to forcibly implant them because they think it's funny, as they tried to do to Roman in this episode. They also believe that cyberpsychosis is a divine experience, and many members are 'high-functioning' cyberpsychos like Adam Smasher, albeit with cheaper chrome. The entire gang is pretty high on the list of the worst people you're likely to find in Night City, which if you're familiar with the Cyberpunk world is saying a lot.

Ingame, every Maelstromer is a flatline as soon as I see them. Except for Dum Dum, who gets to live until the Totenkantz shootout, so I can get his cool revolver.
