VVenture

Wait I just noticed the redux/remix of the Arcane theme in the background and that’s sick.

Ark

oh my god oh my god its happening

Retied

So much pain seeing VI and Powder going a dark path.

Rebvv

I literally teared up a little when I saw the notification , I’m so excited!!

Nathan Grenawalt
>>89206115

Punching her sister and calling her a jinx. Not as dark as accidental murder, but still a dark turn of events.

Chelly

God I love this episode, such an amazingly well done tonal shift. And I really appreciate how many different characters here played a part in everything going to shit, it wasn’t just one specific person (which is a consistent theme in Arcane). Really excited for you guys to get further into the show, it just keeps getting better and better and you’re gonna have a LOT of character analysis to do 😂

Tessa Nyx

Was anyone else just totally distracted by Kenny’s amazing shirt the whole time 😂

Chelly
>>89206115

She also left her sister behind in that mess, which was understandable and she obviously did not intend to permanently leave, but it was still undeniably the wrong choice considering the circumstances.

Joss Town

One point about Marcus that I think you overlooked, he didn't see Vi taking on all those people. So saying "You don't stop someone who took on like 30 people from going to save her sister" when he doesn't have that knowledge. I'm not condoning his actions here, just pointing that out.

Élina Kressmann

"i'm team powder" top 10 words spoken just before a disaster

Kexmi

Vi didn't walk away to leave Powder. She walked away to calm herself down so she wouldn't hurt her.

Kexmi

I hate how most people can seem to excuse Powder's actions, but are so willing to condemn Vi's.

Ryan Tinkham

And now the pain and sadness begin

Kexmi

Vi never stopped Powder from doing things. From the very 1st episode, we've only seen Vi encourage Powder. Did you guys forget their conversation at the end of episode one?

Darby

During the Victor and Jayce scene I was thinking "someone's gotta say that they ship it" and Kenny immediately goes "I ship it" lmfao I love you guys 😂

Dennis Engelhard

"An unloved child will burn down the village to feel it's warmth." Great quote, but I'd say that fits Catra better than Powder tbh.

Mten10th
>>89206115

Vi didn't leave Powder behind. She stepped away to calm herself down. How do you not realize that? If you're trying to leave someone behind, you'd go further that just a few meters. Also, Vi hitting Powder in a moment of extreme grief and distress, and then having the good sense to realize she needs to step away so as not to hurt her isn't going down a dark path.

Brad

Need episode 4 now 🤣

Chelly
>>89206115

We literally saw Vi walk away. She left Powder screaming and crying in the middle of everything. Silco found her alone. Marcus took Vi because she was far enough away that he could grab her without them being noticed. Just because she tried to come back later doesn’t mean that didn’t happen. The objectively correct thing to do would’ve been to get her sister out of there immediately. So like I just said, what Vi did was understandable, but it was still wrong. She IS on a dark path, partly because of her own doing but also because of the circumstances she was forced into. That’s the kind of story this is.

Mten10th
>>89210240

That was completely different and you know it. How was Powder at her lowest at that point? Stop with the exaggerated criticism. Powder was a kid that should not have been there, and telling her that wasn't a form of stunting her growth. Especially considering the fact she got 3 people killed when she did things her way.

TrixieTurner

Man I was already liking the silco story but the ending really surprised. After this episode I was really excited what they did with powder and silco.

Vex Valor

I feel bad for Kenny because he has to edit this episode thus must watch that episode over and over again.

BlueEyedRaven

Now begins the pestering for episode 4. Hehehe

Stephen Ray

I loved your reaction and analysis. I can't wait to see how you react to episode 4, and see how accurate your predictions were.

2026-09-08 02:00 EVERYONE got confused about this- the arcane gem was not continuously blowing up, it blew up once and they showed it from different perspectives

Under regular and safe circumstances, Vi walking away to calm herself down after being horrified at her own violence is absolutely the right choice. However, in this case, while still understandable, it was incredibly dangerous and that's why it can be easily perceived by Powder as abandonment even if that was not the intention. After all, if Silco hadn't had a moment of recognition with Powder, he would have killed her right there and then and Vi wouldn't have been able to stop it.

Lars

First AOT and now this, it is remarkable Kenny’s ability to accidentally pause shows right before major character deaths

Kinsleelovescatra

“Looks like there gonna get out, great!”wise words directly before disaster..

Chelly
>>89209861

Probably because Powder did what she did to help her family, whereas Vi did what she did because she was angry

Edwin Bertilsson

Don't forget that ALL the music is originally made for this show. And it's fucking amazing!

Sol
>>89209861

Eh, both of them have incredibly understandable reasons for what occurred in this episode and they shouldn't be condemned for them. However, people are going to react and connect to the characters differently based on their own emotions and experiences. That's always going to color reactions - especially first ones.

Chelly
>>89210240

It’s funny, if the other kids respected anything other than raw strength and just gave Powder a damn gun, they probably would’ve all been fine

Retied
>>89206115

Vi's behavior is marked by both childlike confrontation with Powder and overly mature reaction. She retreats from the toxic situation, which only ends in psychological and physical violence towards Powder. She tries to get a clear and cool head, only to come back again. She is hindered by Marcus as an external force. That's why the two of them can't resolve the situation and Powder is left alone. In this moment of weakness and abandonment she seeks bonding with the first best adult person "Silco".

Mten10th
>>89210240

You should read before you post. My question was referring to when Vi told her that she wasn't ready, how was she at her lowest point? Since you either can't read or chose not to, answer me how Vi hurt her multiple times? Or are you just another person who ignores facts to make a character look better than they are?

CorgiSnapz
>>89214795

What a complete misrepresentation of what the well researched and balanced article says. Even the title does a better job of describing Maslow's research and relationship of his work to that of the Blackfoot ideals than your assertion that he 'stole' the idea from them.

Mten10th
>>89209861

Vi was angry because Powder killed they're family. Some people really lack all of the intelligence and emotional maturity just because they choose to like one character over another. Powder did what she did because she was selfish and wanted to prove herself. That is obvious because the first thing she asked was if Vi saw he bomb work, not if Vi and the others were ok.

Chelly
>>89210240

That was the other guy lol, I never said that was her lowest point. Her lowest point was when she found out she killed her family. That’s when Vi hurt her multiple times, from hitting her to grabbing her face to calling her a jinx to leaving her behind. I get that you like Vi and want to defend her, but you need to stop assuming that anyone that criticizes her actions automatically hates her or thinks she’s solely responsible for everything.

Sol
>>89209861

I don't think sympathizing with a specific character over another or preferring one means any lack of intelligence or emotional maturity. It's just a preference based on any number of factors. For me, both Vi's anger and Powder's choice to 'help' are equally understandable, especially given their respective ages and life experiences. I don't think it's a binary of right/wrong or selfless/selfish on either side. They're just kids in a terrible situation, working with what little they have.

Mten10th
>>89209861

I don't care who sympathizes with who. I just get annoyed at idiots who ignore facts with the goal of making their preferred character look better. Especially when it comes at the expense of another character.

Sol
>>89209861

Fair enough! I just didn't notice that type of comparison within the reaction or comments themselves, though I've certainly seen it elsewhere on all sides.

Mten10th
>>89210240

@GraffitiTurtle maybe don't jump in another person's conversation trying to change the topic.

Jenny D

I love your guys' take on this episode! I see so many reactors and commentors who's initial reaction is to blame Vi, to get angry at her for her reaction when it's like, she's a kid who just watched most of her family die in front of her and it's her sister's fault. It's not at all surprising that she lashed out without thinking. But she still had enough presence of mind to remove herself from the situation to try and calm down before she could hurt her sister any more. And it's not like Vi had any reason to believe Silco or any of his goons survived that explosion.

Asteroidea

I really love that Kenny kept predicting possible dire outcomes about halfway through, and not one of them was even nearly as dark as what actually ends up happening.

Mark O'Leary

The shot of everything blowing up wasn't a continuous thing, it was a "This happened all at once" kinda shot.

Pumpkin
>>89210240

You can have friendly discourse. The language in your commenting is coming off defensive and harsh. We can all be respectful to each other even if we disagree or hold different interpretations.

Marti Evans
>>89214795

That is my mistake; it was an article that i'd linked to other people previously, before the revisions had been made (i was unaware of those revisions).

Paul

this episode is just complete spain without the s

Minjohnsen

You should keep in mind whenever people die the light in their eyes go out

fr0st

The powerscale conversation is the cutesting thing, y'all. Montana is so proud of getting it and Kenny looks so proud of her. Couple goals <3

Bread&Jam Reacts

As an Animation and Game Development graduate, it mildly hurts me that The Polar Express was referenced in comparison with this masterpiece. 😭 The Polar Express in uncanny valley.

fr0st

The interesting thing about the animation style is that it layers more CGI looking work on top of hand drawn effects. As an example, note the smoke or dust effects after explosions every time and the little motion indicator lines sometimes. A very cool mix!

fr0st
>>89210435

I mean, the point is that she feels like she is not loved, rather she feels abandonment from the one person she loves and needs most. The whole village can love you but if your family rejected you, it will leave a hole.

fr0st

I won't say more because spoilers, but I really like that Silco is more nuanced than just your average bad guy who craves power.. He and Vander clearly had a vision to rise up and get equal rights and prosperity with the topsiders and then their ways of going about it and what they are willing to lose to achieve their goals sharply diverges. It's still a reasonably noble goal.

EmberQuill

One of the reasons why Arcane's CGI looks so amazing is Riot Games gave Fortiche a ridiculously huge budget. Season 1 took six years to make and cost around $100 million, making it the most expensive (per episode) animated show ever made at an average of $10 million per episode. CGI might be cheaper in general, but it looks so good in Arcane because Riot threw as much money as they could at the studio.

LadyBee
>>89226349

im not an animation graduate but i cringed at that too....i love the arcane animation so much that it sucks to have it compared to polar express (but i get what montana meant by it's the same in the terms of being different animation than the average)

Leighton Reacts

Loved this reaction, can't wait for next episode! You guys' videos are the highlight of my day!

Void Weaver

The thing about what Powder did is that there is the possibility that even if she had not done that they may not have got away. They were on the third floor and the guy was just about to brake in when he was distracted by the bomb. So it could have gone either way and Powder had no view of the other room that Vi, Vander, Mylo, and Clagger were in so she had no idea they could escape.

HamHamJ

The thing is I'm not sure CGI at this level is actually much cheaper than modern animation.

Jake Thompson

"I'll show you what you really are." Dosed on shimmer, Vander's will to save those he's taken care of won out. He really is a protector deep down.

castle215

I trusted you guys would fully understand the complexity and tragedy of this situation without taking sides, and of course you did completely! This is my first time every signing up for a Patreon and I did it because I really wanted to see your full reactions to this show! Looking forward to the upcoming episodes.

benjamin tsoi

just a heads up it was only one explosion in different perspectives.

Atar

As many times as i've watched this I still want to cover my face when she come back and say her monkey bomb worked

Atar

I like how you noticed it matched the drowning scene

JennatheBreadQueen

WOW what an amazing episode/reaction!!! I’ve been having trouble thinking of questions for the new series, but this got me thinking all because of Montana and Kenny’s fantastic analysis. and even beyond that it helps me understand the characters more, which is always a plus for me I love that Montana brought up Maslow’s Hierarchy!! It’s something my therapist and I talk about a lot, so it was great seeing it brought up in this sort of thing And I think the most important thing to consider here is that Vi and Powder are both children. Vi is obviously older and has had to grow up faster, but she’s still so young. I thought Montana and Kenny’s analysis of everything that happened was honest and unbiased, which is really hard with something like this. Vi just witnessed and went through some of the most horrendous shit possible, all caused (unwittingly) by her sister. Powder was rejected in an (albeit understandable) cruel and painful way by the one person she thought she could always depend on. It’s so complex all around, and I think that’s why I’m so invested in this story. Reminds me a lot of AoT in that way

fr0st

Quick note: how good is the voice acting for the young actor playing Powder? The desperation and crying feels so organic, it always makes me tear up

Gabriel Dobson
>>89251655

Hard to believe it was her first ever voice acting job and she was like 11/12 when she recorded it.

erq66

just to add: first of all: great reaction! second of all: you need to watch the credit scene for ep3 due to the song beeing spesific for that last scene

EmberQuill
>>89229915

Yeah, a lot of the effects like fire, magic, electricity, etc. are all hand-drawn 2D elements, which causes a really cool effect mixed with the 3D locations and characters.

MJ Eid

Sad the credits weren't added to the video. The song in the credits is fire and hits harder and harder as it goes.

lily whetsell
>>89226349

I agree ahaha I see where she's coming from but my 1st thought was spider-verse bc of the 2d animation over the 3d.

Adam Roy

It always gets to me when people criticize Vi here. Of course we feel terrible for Powder. But Vi is a 14 year old traumatized war orphan, who just fought literal monsters, probably has a few broken bones, just saw almost everyone she loves die AGAIN, and suddenly has the sister that she just told to stay away because she was not ready joyously come along talking about how the bomb that killed everyone she loves was her doing, and how proud she is. Not only that, she doesn't even abandon Powder. She steps away for a few moments to calm down, and the moment she sees Silco, she is ready to put her life on the line to protect her. Yes, she shouldn't have hit Powder, but the idea that anyone could blame her is crazy. Vander told her that she doesn't get to be selfish, and in retrospect, what a crushing reality that is. It is so tragic that the story of Arcane has, I would argue, no actual villainous villains. Everyone is acting in a way that seems understandable and even noble, molded by their circumstances and their trauma. Even Silco, say what you will about him, is clearly motivated by liberating the brutalized underclasses of the Lanes from the oppressive wealthy class of Piltover, and sees anything that would overturn the system as the greater good. The base violence necessary for change. Even in his conflict with Vander, he is removing the most powerful voice for peace over revolution. Given the fact that the law enforcement of Piltover doesn't even consider the air that the children of the Lanes breathe every day anything less then poisonous, I can understand why he would do anything to bring that system to an end.

Erin Haury
>>89212668

It was a very common visual technique that was (and maybe still is) used in anime to show the different things happening at the moment the action happens. It's kind of surprising to me how many reactors thought it went off multiple times.

Keshy

great reactions indeed, and just like in ep2 how they showed the other prospective, its the same with the bomb blast one blast multiple prospective. Every time it goes off you see the wind up always doing that last tick.

Renee Salinas

"Violet doesnt have anyone on her team, who is she gonna pair up with?" Ohhhhh arc 2 here we go😆

Donovan Allen

Well....I enjoyed the young lady's reaction because it seems genuine and I can tell that this is her first time viewing it.

Mathies

Heimerdinger, as THE scientist character in league of legends, his name was conceived by combining Oppenheimer and Schrödinger, two of the most revered scientists ever

Mathies

the monkeybomb only went off once and immediately got blown apart, we just saw it from like 5 angles

Peter Film

Arcane took 6 years to make and 9 figures, 100m+ as mentioned on the first episode of the BTS doco that just started airing. They also had a cool line. We were asked how do we animate it to look painted? We just hand paint it.

Sinewmire

CGI is actually a lot more expensive. A lot. What it is, is it's faster. The designers of arcane said that they wrote Undercity characters to all have some form of inferiority or trauma rooting from the Undercity's lower status. Powder clearly has attachment and self-worth issues. She was desperate to prove herself, so certain that if she wasn't strong enough, wasn't good enough that her family could be taken away again.

Lexi Knight

Vi walked away because she just needed to cool down. They write her like she's a soldier, and she just went through non-stop trauma, either fighting or planning to fight, starting at Benzo's shop and going on and on for at least an hour and every problem is violence and is solved by violence and the violence doesn't stop... and then she hit Powder. She really just needed a moment to calm herself, but Marcus dragged her away.

Stephan

Now, with Episode 3, Arcane has really started :)

Eternal

I don't know how I'm just now noticing the similarity between Silco drowning and Powder falling. I've lost count of how many times I've seen this show, and every time I see something new.

Bignium

I don't want to sound sadistic but I love seeing Montana emotional, because it's so rare to see her that way (usually we see kenny) that I love that this magnificent series shows us the good a heart she has. PS: We love you Kenny

Anonymous

All of the background in the show are are actually 3d drawings I can’t really explain how that works but y’all should look it up

wuzi

The way u just dont listen to that iconic music at the end... i have to be honest that triggered me... ;D

Zdmn

Why do people feel the need to talk during dialogue all the time? Love you but you probably missed 40% of the intro dialogue and if there's one thing you should never do with Arcane is talk over Silco. Silco in Arcane only deliver banger quotes. Quotes that have already become Legendary. I think every time a new reactor comes in for Arcane we should tell them to expressly keep quiet during his scenes. It's such a shame, really...

Linus Marjeta
>>89726009

Worth noting that only about 2-3 years was actually making it. A lot of time went into other things prior to production. Which is why S2 will probably be out in late 2023 or early 2024.

Linus Marjeta
>>89212668

Everyone? Me and my friends all understood that the explosion only occured once, otherwhise it wouldn't make sense since the monkey is still there every time. I'd say a bunch of people got confused, but faaaar from everyone, seen plenty of reactors understanding it's just different angles.
