I love how much discussion Silco’s relationship with Jinx causes. He’s such a compelling character for someone with an almost cartoonishly villainous design with the scar and evil eye.

Selim

oh you’re not ready for that last episode before season 2.

erq66

i was just rewatching EP6 and noticed something that i cant get out of my head: Does the picture of the child that the enforcer (think his name is Marcus) not look like the origin story of Annie?

KT Bees

I think Silco loves and cares for Jinx, but has never once in his life seen what healthy love looks like, and thus can't give it. He's the worst possible person to have raised her, absolutely, but I think he did it with as much care as a similarly broken man raised without love could give. I think he cares for her as a person, but since he never had that modeled, it absolutely looks (and sometimes is) more akin to love for a prized possession. I just don't think that's necessarily a choice on his part because he doesn't know the difference. Semi related for a good, if rough, book on trauma and neglect in children, i highly recommend "the boy who was raised as a dog". It's far more optimistic than the title makes it sound, I promise.

Ruben Mira Jimenez

I feel like one of the sentences that is overlooked is when Finn tells Silko "word is your dog is off her leash", when talking about Jinx, and seems to imply that Silco HAS been using her as a weapon of some sort in the past at least several times. Does that mean he doesn't care about her? Of course not, i'm sure he does, but i'm their relationship is way more toxic than any good it can have on Jinx to be honest.

Ark

how i interpret silco's feelings towards jinx is he cares about her deeply but has pretty terrible parenting skills. his love for her outweighs his capacity to be a good dad

Sean Fox

Corrupted by the void 😈

Chelly
>>90980205

Finn also says this episode that Silco sort of does what Jinx wants (“Jinx gets a whim and suddenly his spine’s made of jelly”). So it’s definitely heavily implied that Silco actually wants good things for her and doesn’t just view her as a tool to be used. If you look at their relationship through this lens, you can see more proof of this in previous episodes as well.

Bazil

Vi at the start of Arcane: Fuck the police! Vi by the end of Arcane: Police fuck me!

Bazil

Lore drop. Noxus, the region where Mel is from is one of the strongest empires in the world. It's basically 'Name a fascist Empire'. They employ a lot of mages in their military.

VVenture

Oh, just some news for you two if you didn’t know. Arcane season 2 isn’t going to take anywhere near as long as season 1 to make! Season 1 took 6 years due to them taking two years to make a pilot, two years on hiatus due to Riot Games considering cancellation of the project, and then two years of actual production for the remaining 8 episodes. Season 2’s scripts have already been written, and the voice actors have already recorded their lines, meaning it’s actually being animated as we speak. All things considered, it’s likely to come out either in 2023 or 2024 at most!

Atar

Liked the convo, about silco and jinx, and never noticed Finn warming his drink with his lighter before you mentioned it

StefanV

Living for the reaction to “we got a deal pretty boy” line.

Angel Hernandez

In episode 6, we saw Viktor struggling to catch his toy boat he made. In this episode, we see him running past all the boats in the dock. I just think that adds even more to that scene. Also don’t worry, you won’t have to wait 6 years. Riot said it shouldn’t take as long this time. Season 1 only took 6 years because it was their first ever show and they had to figure a lot of stuff out. There’s a BTS series on YouTube called “Arcane: Bridging the Rift” where they show the whole progress if you’re interested.

Chelly

I’d say the Council is definitely far removed from what the Undercity is really like and the problems it constantly faces, but Vi and Jayce are for sure biased as well. Vi hates Silco personally (and who could blame her) and will do whatever it takes to bring him down. But that doesn’t actually solve the problems the Undercity has been having for decades. It’s more like curing the symptoms but not the illness. As for Jayce, he simply wants the Undercity to stop killing people Topside because that’s where he’s from and that’s all he can see. And thanks to Mel’s mom (who wants Jayce to weaponize Hextech because of her own personal agenda), he’s now afraid that being diplomatic will be his undoing. That’s my own interpretation of events this episode. I love how much discussion Arcane brings to the table. It doesn’t really shame any side for thinking how they do, all it does it try to make you understand where the characters are coming from and that every choice has consequences.

Gabriel Dobson

lol It won't take 6 years for season 2 to come out xD

James Long

Arcane won the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program last night. And I also recommend watching Arcane: Bridging the Rift. It is a 5-Part Making of series on youtube. It will tell you more about the long process to make it and why it won't take 6 years for Season 2 to come out.

Elvira Lehtonen

WHY DID YOU SKIP PART OF THE BATHHOUSE SCENE!!!

Jon Wake

Guys. You're not going to have to wait 6 years. It didn't take 6 years to produce Arcane. It took about two. The writer pitched it six years ago and started doing animation tests then. Now they have a production pipeline up, it will go smoother.

HailKingRagnar1

I just Love the Scene with Viktor running by the docks

jamurano

I always interpreted the scene when Jayce killed that kid and is looking at the faces in the crowd, as him realizing that they are all children. He’s mortified that he killed a child and potentially others that were wearing the suits, doing what they were told. At least that was my interpretation of it. I love the scene of Viktor running for the first time. Stunning. Also, not sure if you caught it, Sky was the little girl in Viktors backstory when he was playing with the boat he made. You can hear the children call to her as she stares at Viktor. She, more or less, grew up with him.

Tyler Griffin

it wont be 6 it will probably be next year

Alex

I’m not seeing it here, but this is a comment I read somewhere on Arcane. When Victor goes to use the hex core without shimmer it would have killed him, this is because it requires an exchange. The Doctor proposed the use of shimmer as the exchanges as it is also biological in origin from that creature. His first and subsequent uses of it results in the repair to his leg and possibly his illness though I don’t know if that is ever made clear. If you notice when Sky enters the room and tries to pull him away the hex core accepts her as the exchange. This results in Victors hand being partially, (or fully) changed like his leg. The comment I saw pointed out that it is interesting to see what the hex core values, namely the value of a human life is so small in comparison to the shimmer which completely altered his broken leg, while Sky’s life only modified his hand, which I think didn’t have any problems with it intrinsically.

Mathies

does look like her, but it's clearly not her since, you know, we actually know her backstory

Mten10th

It amazes me how many people will trick themselves into thinking that Silco is some Saint because of his relationship with Jinx. He has a clearly mentality and emotionally unstable person committing acts of terrorism and building weapons. He has no problem lying and telling Jinx that her sister whom she loves doesn't care about her, and he did it so he could maintain control. Sure, on some level he cares, but he is constantly trying to turn her into what he wants ("Let Powder die."), not what she wants.

Mathies
>>90982165

also they had to press pause on production which seems like it was atleast a year, and they were new to producing an entire TV show. season 2 is definitely coming in either 2023 or 2024.

seekingoutfriday
>>90980265

" his love for her outweighs his capacity to be a good dad" and along this, how he does know how to show love is in possessive, scared and toxic ways.

Rory Fitz

Fun fact: you can mix oil and water through HOMOgenization

Beowulfe
>>90988010

I don't think "Let Powder die" is a sign that he's trying to turn her into what "he" wants, it's that he sees himself in her, and that, specifically, is how HE survived a similar situation. It's the best advice he has to give. He was never taught proper ways to deal with the trauma he went through, he just... figured it out. It's not the right way; but he isn't doing it for selfish reasons, he is genuinely trying to help her in the best way he can.

Mten10th
>>90988010

It's nice that you see it that way, but she came to him in pain about her past, a past he was ultimately responsible for, and as an adult he basically said "Don't worry, be happy." You can put on a pedestal if you want, but the facts are facts.

Camille Watrigant

Season 2 will probably come out late 2023-early 2024. You should watch the making off of Arcane on youtube, it's in 5 episodes and we learn why it took 6 years to finish season 1. They had a lot of issues and rewriting, not enough staff etc. Now that season 1 is a huge hit, don't worry they will be able to give us season 2 way more quickly (also they already almost finished writing the script of s2 when s1 come out).

Ahmad Pattonbey

i looked it up looks like arcane season 3 could be coming in 2023!! probably late 2023 though

Mathies

So Montana agrees with Vi. Interesting, cuz most people don't. like yeah Vi says it but as Kenny says the show suggests that they're more like blood and water. Cuz Caitlyn litterally tried to forget Vi and couldn't. physically couldn't.

Leighton Williams

First of all, amazing reaction as always. Second, Kenny calling the undercity the "underground" made me think that you guys would LOVE Undertale if you haven't already played it! I know you've played some games on the channel before, so if you're looking for another I think that one would be a perfect fit for you guys! It's funny, cute, heartfelt, and there's great opportunity for theorizing and discussion.

Suplee215

I agree with Montana on the Silco debate. While yes, Silco has some care calling his opinion on jinx selfish and he's out for himself a lot isn't undeserved. That mission jinx was on in episode 4 wasn't her first mission. He turned her into a an assassin/murderer for his own needs. While she might have been in violent jobs without him I don't know if it's fair tk say shell be a killer without that direction. I also don't think caring for someone makes you a good parent automatically

Adam Roy
>>90988010

Silco is definitely not a saint, but he's not exactly the villain, as we would easilly read. He has adopted a mentally unstable, twice orphaned victim of war, and supports her even when it makes his life harder. He even keeps things like an ashtray she made him, clearly as a child, on his desk for all to see. He lets her realize her dream, of protecting her "family" with her skills and her bombs. Even Vander knew that Vi would take on similar risk to protect the people she cared about. She gave Jinx the only thing she ever really wanted. Who says he was lying about Vi? From his perspective, he just sees Vander's daughter, back from the dead to ruin his plans to free the undercity from the oppression of Piltover, waltzing into his city with a literal piltover enforcer, trying to take back HIS daughter. It was the wrong call, but he knew that it would not only mess with his plans, but also hurt her. And lastly, you could say that it is Silco who is allowing her to be who she really is. Jinx herself admits that Silco didn't make her Jinx. It's Vi who is trying to force her to be something she is not. You can certainly read his actions as villinous. But end of the day, if you value the lives of people over a sense of being, "Unsavory", can you really say that he is any worse then Heimedinger (A councilor who has resides over the entire arc of the creation and exploitation of the undercity), an enforcer in charge of keeping the undercity under Piltovers bootheel, or a charismatic barkeep who prevents the exploited masses from revolting and taking back what is rightfully theirs? I mean, he does it with drugs and child labor. Definitely no saint. But did he see any other alternative?

Tyran
>>90988010

Silco is definitely wrong, but he is a wrong because he himself is a highly emotionally unstable person with an extremely flawed world view that never was able to get over his own trauma. Seriously he says he is over Vander yet he inevitably goes back to Vander every time. His advise to Jinx is shit because he wouldn't know healthy copping mechanisms even if they punched him in the face. But the point of all that is that Silco is a bad parent not because he doesn't love Jinx, but because he himself is a toxic and highly unhealthy person with untreated traumas. Genuine love doesn't make a good parent if the parent in question is still a shit person.

Adam Roy
>>90984971

I think beyond that, he sees the children and realized that THIS is what the world has looked like all this time. While her was in his lab trying to create fancy gadgets to help everyone, there were literal children being put in constant danger in a shimmer factory. This isn't some straightforward fight that he has always thought, this is a dirty, ugly thing and he is complicit.

Tyran

My two cents regarding Silco: he is a horrible person but he does genuinely loves Jinx. But genuinely love is still a toxic love if it comes from a toxic person, because such person would have no idea how to express their love in healthy ways. Why Silco lies about Vi? because he is terrified Jinx will leave him, his own insecurities make him extremely controlling because he is afraid of being abandoned. Another example, Jinx loves Vi, yet it still is a very toxic love.

Mten10th
>>90988010

The only reason Powder needed adopting was because of a situation Silco caused. Silco has no problem lying to Jinx over and over. He would rather her hate her sister than possibly have a happy relationship with her. I don't get how so many people are allowing themselves to be so delusional. Twist as many facts as you want, but the only "love" he feels is out of his own selfish needs.

Adam Roy

Something that Arcane does a lot that I really enjoy is this attitude of, "I will give you what you want, whether you like it or not". Whenever things get cool and exciting, you get the logical consequences behind it. You can't not love the frantic action of this fight scene, but of course it will only end up with innocent people getting hurt. You love seeing Vi beating the crap out of Sevika, but of course it won't accomplish anything and leaves Vi injured. You love seeing a grown up Powder really let lose with her skills, but of course it just reveals that she is a broken, traumatized orphan whose pain has led to her murdering an innocent girl who looks like Vi. You love the idea of baby Powder saving the day with her clever monkey bombs, but of course a traumatized child fighting in a war with explosives was never going to end well. Cue memory of Vander pointing to Vi's bloody fists, saying that those will never solve her problems.

Sinewmire

I love how Caitlyn's parents swap the traditional parenting gender roles.

Prda

I think Silco genuinely does care about Jinx, but his problem is that he projects his own trauma on everything happening around him. He genuinely loves Jinx as a parent, but that doesn't make him a good parent.

Prda
>>90980205

Not to mention how Silco's eye twitches after Jinx gets called a dog. He cares about her, but that still doesn't mean he's GOOD for her.

Ruben Mira Jimenez
>>90980205

Yeah of course! He cares about her a LOT, but one thing doesn't invalidate the other which is... part of the tragedy of this show.

fr0st

There's an interesting distinction here made between being a loving parent and being a good parent. With Vander and Vi taking care of her, Powder got a lot of encouragement, love, and boundaries. With Silco, she gets a lot of love and encouragement for her experimentation and antics, but no boundaries. We see time and again that Silco's position is literally weakened with his subordinates calling out how Jinx fucks everything up and he still refuses to blame her or get rid of her.

fr0st

I don't know if y'all caught it but in the scene with his childhood, Viktor is chasing a little toy boat and it overtakes him easily as he can't keep up with it and stumbles. Now, with the change to his leg, Viktor starts running with a real boat in the background for that scene that he rapidly overtakes. A nice bit of callback imagery there.

fr0st

I was hoping Kenny would notice the background details of that bathhouse scene. The deco looks like a bunch of spears aggressively pointing at the person standing where Jayce is. Mel's mom is taking the softly, softly approach but it is 100% a veiled threat.

fr0st

Also worth clarifying that while the first go-round made Viktor's leg better, the core problem was still that he was dying and that's why he tries to transmute (for lack of a better term) the rest of his body afterwards. not because, as Kenny guesses, he needs to recharge or anything.

Beowulfe
>>90988010

He's definitely a bad person, I don't think anyone is challenging that. The point that most of us are trying to make is that bad person and loving parent aren't one and the same. Loving parent isn't even the same as good parent. He's a bad parent and a bad person, but he still loves Jinx. Creating the situation that caused Powder to be adopted doesn't mean he can't love her from that point forwards. He's not suited to being a parent, he has so much unresolved trauma himself that he can't raise someone else without passing it on, so he's not a GOOD parent, but he is a LOVING parent. Anyways, just wanted to clarify that point. I'm not trying to change your mind, just showing a different viewpoint. No need to call us delusional. Every one of us has different life experiences and sees characters/people in a different light. If you see him as nothing but a villain, that's perfectly fine!

Mten10th
>>90988010

You can't truly love a person you're willing to lie to constantly just to keep them around. In that case, you love yourself so much that you are willing to keep a person around regardless of how your lies makes them feel. Silco is an adult intelligent enough to run a drug trade and employ mostly children at his factories as meat shields against enforcers. I will not allow anyone to accuse his trauma as some excuse for his actions against Jinx. He knows she loves Vi, they've probably had many conversations over the years about that, and yet the first thing he decides to do after finding out she's alive is try to murder her. When that doesn't work, he decides to lie to his "daughter" you stans claims he loves so much, regardless of the pain it caused her. Remember, he'd the adult in this situation. Try having the same understanding for Jinx's feelings as you do his.

Mten10th
>>90988010

@Adam Roy it amazes me that you took the time to say the false crap that you did. If you truly feel that way, you may want to reevaluate all of your relationships. If you see right in Silco's actions in his relationship with Jinx, you should look inward and reflect on all of your relationships.

JHB

So you jumped into fire for her? (Yeah, old, stale "extinguished" fire, but that can be elided).

Tyran
>>90988010

"You can't truly love a person you're willing to lie to constantly just to keep them around." Do you believe that Catra truly loved Adora even though she lied to Adora, manipulated her, tried to kill her friends and even tried to kill her in multiple occasions? Does being a toxic person (and Catra definitely was a toxic person) mean you cannot truly love anyone?

fr0st

There's a bunch of stuff to come that will tie into this argument but I'll be really interested to hear if either Kenny or Montana change their stances on whether Silco cares about Jinx by the end of the season.

Valentina M

As for what Montana said about colors. A few weeks ago, I got my nails done in pink and blue colors, representing Shimmer and Hextech as an Arcane theme, in the center they were purple and they looked beautiful. I loved them... now I have Avatar nails (air nomads colors)

Sean Fox

Young justice and clone wars 😍

Zarmus

The Silco Jinx relationship feels similar to a Fame seeking parent and a Child Actor. I think their is a real mix of a father and an exploiter.

Adam Roy
>>90988010

Chill dude, it's a cartoon. Not understanding it doesn't give you an excuse to be rude. Everyone else is having interesting conversations.

Mten10th
>>90988010

@Adam Roy I'm just pointing out how wrong your views on relationships are. Wasn't arguing because I know I'm correct.

Clark

AHHHH im so excited for the last episode! this has been so fun. this show is unreal

Mathew Staib

Idk if you guys noticed but Vicktor's assistant, Sky, is the same girl from his flashback

Stephan

Montana should really watch Dickinson, to solidify her celeb crush on Hailee :)

Stephan

Vi & Caitlin are Blood & Water, not Oil & Water and both belong to each other, they are so in love with each other, and Caitlyn rethinking the whole scene in the shower scene, and wants this scene back, so she could do it better & doesn´t let Vi leave

GrimV

you just need a binder to mix oil and water T.T that's how vinaigrettes work. Just add some mustard T.T for example a common cause! Or shared interest. And piltover and zaun can work together as soon as they find some common ground. Potentially. Jayce and Victor worked together amazingly on hextech even tho theyre oil and water, piltover and undercity. Heimerdinger and Echo working together because both want to to better the living conditions of the people. ADD THE MUSTARD!!

fr0st

Kenny is really out her being a renaissance man with the chess camp, editing, swordfighting training, blacksmithing, acting, voice training, and probably other things we don't know yet.

Diana

Ok, I know this is personal but now I really wanna hear you guy's celebrity hall passes... LOL

lafatte24

god when mel's mother was revealed i had such a strong bi panic moment. I wanted her to crush me. I finally personally felt the death by snusnu sentiment. I fucking love love love the character (as problematic as she is) because they did such a good job of embodying like... physical prowess and strength. Was so awesome to see (compared to like the female goddesses in thor or other shows where the female warriors are still kinda lean). Just a great aesthetic to see.

Haorii

I have to tell that Montana looked beautiful after the filming break 😍🔥

ItzYourBoi

silco can have a soft spot for jinx and still be an abusive, manipulative figure towards her.

Carabas

Ah yes, Mel's mom... Or what Shadow Weaver wants to be when she grow up.

Linus Marjeta

Yea, wolves are awesome, but... They don't show mercy once they've gone agressive, that's the point, they don't just suddenly stop attacking because their target is in pain/down.
