Love this episode. My theory on the sending kids to fight the big fear demon is complicated. First off, this is a action adventures with kids and a common tropes is kids do dangerous tasks and are seen as capable by adults (look at aang and company fighting a war). Second I think while the fears of kids can get deep and extreme that the fears of adults are much worse. Like imagine if an adult did it and saw their entire family die from the fear demon. I also think there are backup plans that aren't fully said. But with how easily eda was going to step in I won't be shocked if Bump and other teachers will be ready too too. But I think they don't do that every year be cause the more you fight grom the more it can read you and learn to fight you. Still heavily irresponsible but kids being in danger is part of the genre and thus show seems more aware of that than others

The reason Luz's mom did not pick up on the letters being weird was exactly because they are weird. Keep in mind that Luz is a bit weird in general. She probably wrote it off as Luz being quirky

I'll say this in Bump's defense: You could make the argument that a child's greatest fear is more likely to be something embarrassing but mostly harmless, and they have more potential to overcome their fears.

That's always been my thought as well. Still not great, but makes sense. If you're fighting something that becomes your fear, a kid with a weaker fear is gonna fare better than an adult with something deadlier or more complex. Tho I am super curious what Bump fears enough to not just do it himself.

I say the owl house is a gayer prom because amity never admitted her feelings yet the two had a date anyways (or damn close to one)

The Owl House absolutely has the gayer prom, I mean they animated that whole dance way too smoothly 😂 Luz and Amity were both giving each other this look 😏 while in She Ra it was only Catra that was doing it. Yes I know this from memory. Amity also actually revealed her crush on Luz this episode (to the viewers), unlike in She Ra where Catra and Adora’s feelings weren’t outright stated by anyone until the very last season

The intro doesn’t change this season, but the outro for episode 19 has a minor change at the very end! Also there’s only 19 episodes in season 1, which is a random number. I never learned why.

My lone issue with Luz’s outfit is that her boots are brown but her jacket is black. I don’t even think it would be an issue for me if it was the other way around—brown jacket and black boots. Now that I think about it, I have the same issue with her school uniform. Every single student has black shoes of varying styles to go with their black cowls, but Luz still wears her white shoes.

Yeah, Kataang was my first ship, before shipping was even a term, and that dance was the first time we got any real indication that Katara was developing feelings for Aang, so it’ll always have a special place in my heart! And them using some bending moves as dance moves was a great touch! Catradora’s was the most tense/intense of the three, and prior to Season 5 it was one of the biggest indicators of their deeper feelings for each other, but it was also the shortest of the dances and it was broken up with partner changes. Lumity’s was incredible because of the animation quality, the fancy dance moves with magic, plus the two of them working together and combining their magics to defeat the monster and create that beautiful tree! And then the reveal right afterwards!

Maybe somebody can comment on this! Two years ago, I though after reading the title and before seeing the episode that GROM would be short form of "gay prom". Is that a common term?

lowkey, Emoji's get a bad rap because they get overused in weird ways, but they are actually a pretty good supplement for tone, something which is consistently hard to parse when reading text based communication. And yes I absolutely use emoji's with my parents. So do they.

I find the emoji discussion super interesting because it's rapidly a way to tell your age too. People of different generations use different emojis and use existing ones in different ways.
