Oftentimes in the show, Light is shown in Red and L in Blue so you should absolutely match that motif for their counters.

Just going off the intro and the emphasis of red on light and blue on L, those seem to be the best options...which it seems you already picked up on and most seem to agree!

This will be common with other characters in the story as well, some you have met and others you haven't. Death Note kind of does the work for you in that aspect.
