The fact that Deku thought he'd die and was saying sorry to his mom hit hard. Midoriya is one of my favorite protagonists for sure

Agent 7!?!

This is one of the best fights in the whole anime

SilverAtlas

The one million percent smash is kinda weird, but the author of the manga explained it after this chapter was released since he figured he could have made it more clear what actually happened. The one million percent part is just a war cry for Deku to hype himself up, he obviously didn't literally use a million percent of One for All, since it's mathematically impossible. What actually happened is that Deku used two 100% hits back to back, a Delaware Smash to rip open Muscular's defences and a Detroit Smash to finish him off while he was defenseless. Muscular could only tank the first 100% smash he took because he saw the punch coming and protected himself, letting his muscle fibers absorb most of the damage. But once his defences are peeled off he could no longer tank Deku's hits.

One clarification I would make is that Kota didn't get his Quirk for the first time in this episode. Nobody said he was Quirkless, they just said he hated heroes for what happened to his parents. There was an image last episode after Izuku left him on the cliff that indicated Kota has actually been practicing with his Quirk in secret, though it is easy to miss that part since its just an indent in the rock wall. I like to think that his Quirk felt like a connection to his parents for him since they all shared the same one, so he kept at it even though he hated that they used theirs to be heroes.

Gestrid

I haven't started the episode yet, but I am already ready to cry tears of happiness.

Raymond Mejia

First of many tear jerking episodes

Gestrid

This episode combined with [SPOILERS REDACTED] in a future season just... it just makes this moment even better.

One of my favorite things about MHA is that each character has a different drive for why they want to be a hero and different interpretations of what’s heroic. The story doesn’t say those interpretations are wrong either. Uraraka wanting money and Bakugou wanting to win are valid.

Gwendolyn Vrisala

So happy you guys finally got to react to this episode! It's my favorite!!!!

Æther Paradox

Don't worry. I too cry at this episode every time. My dad is a black swat officer, so as a kid I was always afraid of losing him. So the idea of self sacrifice being heroic is something I understand fundamentally. Season 3 and 6 really punch me right in the trauma. P.S. my dad is retired now and safe at home with my mom and the horses.

Joe Dunams

Wow i just noticed Spinner called Magna "Big Sis." I didn't put together Magna's orientation until much later. Not that it matters in the context of the story it's just interesting :).

Joe Dunams

For clarification telepath is one way. She can talk to them but they can't talk to her.

Zen Reacts

I mean Dabi did literally tell Eraser that theyre there for the students on the pros

Jamal Cheatham

Damn y’all got me chocking up again for that scene. Great reaction and review. Can’t wait for more

Angelia Dark

The first time I sobbed during this show, and it never stops hitting hard on rewatching.

eliana

And soooo the tearbending begins (and never stops)

Ksweets

Even the bad guys refuse to tolerate transphobia. Shows some of them have standards.

Darren

This is an episode in particular that I have always felt was more impactful as a sub rather than dub. Some of the verbiage changes they made in the dub, and the final line from Kota felt even more emotional to me. Still one of the best episodes of the whole series for me.

Rick Liu

Can`t wait 3X6,it`s so great too,S3 is a most emotional season,

Goku Black

Please watch Re:Zero 💯💯💯💯

I met Justin Briner at a convention a year ago and told him this episode was probably my favorite, especially due to his performance

IGoBySparky

Oh so THATS what that was?! That seriously has bugged me every time I've seen that indention in the rocks wondering what it was...it never even crossed my mind it could've been damage from kota practicing his quirk!

Franky

The author of MHA manga explained the word choice of "1000,000%" in volume 9. It is a way of expression Izuku used to pump himself up at that very moment. It's more than his typical 100%; otherwise, Muscular the villain wouldn't have been beaten, but it's nowhere near an actual 1000,000% output of OFA. Regardless, this is a very intense moment and an extraordinary act of Izuku!

christian

omg I feel like it’s been a while since we’ve had tear bending! We didn’t even get them in AOT Final Episode Pt 1!

Mekar

Even today this is my single favorite episode of My Hero Academia. There's so many great moments in the series after this, but this is still the top for me so far. I love this episode so much.

kai

idk if its been explained but big sis magne is a trans woman :)

Cation

You know, no matter how cheesy or "decent" people say MHA is there is always something truly shining with the characters and the motivation especially when it comes to Deku. The true essence of a hero that will never give up and that will stand against all odds. Midoriya is my hero

Erwin Prado

The Tearbending queen has returned :)

Ttsukasa

He had the tissue on call, You should marry this guy!

Anonymous

I joined in the tearbending. Seeing someones genuine first reaction to this episode is amazing to see.

Yeah, especially with what we are getting now, that seems... a bit silly. but eyh, it was early days still.
