I really don't think that has to do with anything. Like in real life, you can just be a hardcore fan of someone, know every little fact, collect tons of merchandise, without being sexually attracted to that person.

honestly, this is why I think Izuku was the perfect choice for OFA. Due to being quirkless before, he focused on honing his other strengths, like his critical thinking skills. He's an absolute strategizer and analyser and it shows in every fight. Pair that with OFA and you have the perfect unit with balances stats. OFA would've been wasted on Mirio, simply because he's already great, especially with his quirk. Also, like someone else said in the comments of episode 2, Mirio most definitely would've declined cause that's just who he is. He would've wanted OFA to go to someone like Izuku as well.

I wouldn’t say that Principal Nezu thought Mirio should be the successor over Deku, he told All Might about Mirio before All Might met Deku. I think he just put forth a candidate he thought might fit the criteria. Nezu hasn’t talked about Deku at all to All Might, usually it’s Recovery Girl who does. Also when rewatching the Entrance exam you can briefly see Nezu behind All Might after Deku smashed that giant robot and he was cheering.
