Just a quick (probably long) update. Now I've finished the main body of Artoo, legs, drive etc. I thought I'd spend a little time on exploring electronic options for movement. Now I've got to say, the Adafruit 12 bit 16 channel servo controller is my new friend! These little boards are superb, then can be chained together on the i2c channel and control endless amounts of servos and LEDs. I have two, one in the dome, which controls 6 servos and 6 sets of leds in the three holoprojectors. I'm also installing one in the body which opens panels etc. These literally run across two wires and power. Easy to set up, easy to program. I combined them with sg90 servos which are strong enough for the printed R2. Now if all of this is gobbledegook, I'm happy to add some basics 101 for Arduino and driving the servos if that would help? I'm definitely not a programmer however me explaining it may make it simpler... anyhow I'll add some note. On a printing and model side, I've designed and tested the hinges and servo arms for the two large (arm) panels. Next up is both servo mounts for the utility arms and then I'm working on a super special concept for the two arms (grippers etc). I think using two servos I can get if to extend and animate dependent on the type of arm you choose! Stay tuned for more fun and frolics (and yes I still have battery boxes to do :-)
Happy printing,
