Hey everyone, just wanted to make a quick post here to let you guys know what's up, but my toaster PC is officially in its death throes rn I believe. Currently, if it doesn't overheat and bluescreen on startup, I can keep it going for a few hours by disabling every program that runs in the background and keep my activities limited to a few browser tabs before it eventually crashes again. It's made it a challenge to get anything done, and I've spent most of the time I have with it working between crashes to research parts to build a new PC. It's something I've already been meaning to do this year but this is what I get for putting it off I guess!-Anyways, I've started to get a better idea after a couple days of research of what my new build will be so I should be able to actually try and get back to work a bit for you guys!I'm really sorry for the wait >.<-Oh and if there are any computer nerds who are curious or can offer advice/validation, here is what I'm looking at rn!CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700xCooler: Deepcool LS720Motherboard: ASRock X870 Pro RS WiFi ATX AM5  (Truly no clue what constitutes a good MOBO)Memory: 32GB of Ram, probably corsairStorage: Crucial p3 2TB SSDVideo Card: Radeon RX 9070 XT (we'll see which brand I can get but I'd like the XFX mercury)Power Supply: Lian Li EDGE 1300WIdk what case yet, I'm leaning towards a fishbowl type like the lian li O11 or the Fractal North but I'm not certain!

Have you tried hitting your pc with a wrench

Did it overheat before? I would try is taking out the gpu and try using the integrated graphics on the CPU to rule out the gpu. Then I would go to one stick of ram trying in different slots, if going to one stick works and it works in every slot it's a stick of ram, if it's not working in a specific slot it's probably mobo or cpu. After that if the issue remains I would assume it's something CPU, mobo, or PSU related. If you have spares of those you can test with I would. All this being said this is assuming it's hardware and not software.

Bit of a computer nerd here. I use corsair, crucial and asrock pro and they have worked wonders for me. Can't speak for the other brands

Also it might be that your cooler broken or dying which I'm sus of with the reported symptoms.

I ain't got any idea about AMD stuff, but what I am seeing it looks good. Tho the PSU... Are we really in the 1000+ region now for power supplies? Damn @.@

Or it could just be a software problem, in which case reinstalling Windows (or a "Reset" as it calls it in the settings) might solve the problems entirely

- Motherboards don't make much of a difference, you might as well go with the slightly cheaper ones (but not too cheap) - That GPU seems like way overkill for non-gaming use. You probably want to spend more on CPU

I personally suspect it's probably to do with the CPU overheating as well! Problem always arises as soon as the computer tries multitasking or doing anything CPU heavy. I might try putting on fresh thermal paste in the interim to see if that helps but I'm not super desperate to "save" it, it's 11 years old at this point lol and it can't properly run the things I'd want from it regardless

Canphem

I'm probably overkill for the PSU! Might just go with 1000W but it's one of those things I figure will continue to be usable in the long-long term when things eventually start becoming more and more intensive :p

Yeah I'm still trying to learn what to actually look for in a motherboard! Unfortunately all the AM5 socket ones are pretty expensive regardless! And I do plan on gaming! One of the main reasons I'd already wanted to upgrade my PC at some point is that I've had baldurs gate and elden ring sitting in my library for quite some time, unable to play properly on my current comp :( 9070 XT is maybe still overkill? Was considering 7800 XT if I wanted to cut down. I'm not sure, but I wouldn't really wanna upgrade anything for at least 5-6 years. What do you think?

I'm on a 750watts with an i7 14700k and a 3070ti - not sure how much power goes Into AMDs but id say 1000 is solid. For a good while. Specially since hard drives are mostly chips now and stuff such as sound cards are niche. But again, that is my assumption as Intel and Nvidia user. The heatsink peaked (sp) my attention, I'm on a Corsair 280mm and the one you've picked is way cheaper. Can't fit that into my case... But in top hohoho - edit: attention in a good way because that Intel is WAY hot, and a 320mm would POSSIBLY help?! Specially since I'm an absolute philistine and don't wanna fiddle with undervolting and such. 😫

It's probably overkill. I use a 6700XT and it still runs most games pretty well. Normally I recommend finding a used previous-gen GPU, they are far cheaper for almost the same performance. Unfortunately GPUs are all overpriced now thanks to AI, so I don't know how the used market is.

Bummer! Enjoy putting together that new rig, it can be tough if ur not comfortable but it’s a rare occasion to do so!

Also regarding a new build, you'll want to go something am5 if you don't want to upgrade super soon it's pricey but it will be the standard for a good while. 16 to 32 GB is good to great, any x3d CPU will be good cause AMR is killing right now. your PSU and GPU were already pretty good so if I were I might just keep those as they were. And other things like case and aesthetics are up to personal choice!

Sorry to hear! Don't worry about having to delay, the censored art is more than we deserve we're just happy you take our money, take all the time you need! 😳😖 And as for the PC I can help if you need, I'm always giving advice on PC building haha ☺️ I vote for getting the Fractal North case, I have it in white and it's soo pretty!
