In Vanilla Races Expanded – Starjack, we're expanding the Starjack xenotype into a fully space-adapted species. Originally built for life in zero gravity, Starjacks now come with new genes, unique abilities, and a deeper identity as orbital specialists who struggle on planetary surfaces. We have listened to your feedback since the last development blog and adjusted a few things! Overall, I think our mod makes starjacks really stand out. You actually will WANT to have them in your gravship crew. They're very useful.

That was quick, we are closer to doing a proper RimFTL run.

Glad to see you were able to make the vacuum resistant apparel counter the oxygen sensitivity! A question about the wording on the infographics though: "Wearing any apparel that provides at least 80% vacuum resistance will cancel the effects of this gene", keyword being "any apparel", is the intended check for the total resistance of the outfit?

John Anderson

I speak for all the fans when I say I can't wait to use these in my upcoming deserters playthrough!

:D

I love new xenotypes. The ones you guys make are always so damn good

Deggial

And now I understand why you stuck with 'oxygen sensitivity' rather than changing it to 'gravitational sensitivity' (even though the latter would have made more sense. I'll die on that hill! ;) ) However, being able to counter this drawback by wearing a vacsuit on planetary surfaces just makes sense from a gameplay perspective.

Q: Will this mod affect existing starjacks? A: No, it will not affect starjacks that already exist. Only newly spawned starjacks will be affected. I assume that my newly recruited Starjack (no emotional attachment yet) will die an unexpected death by Dev Mode and miraculously reappear in a new form.

Deggial

Pro tip: There's no need to create four new random pawns, change their xenotype, and then kill three of them, leaving the other colonists sad about their deaths. Simply open the 'Bio'-tab straight away and replace the definition of the existing Starjack with the new one. Don't ask me why I know this!

TT

Amazing Xenotypes as always. I really hope you go back to do the others. I know tiefling failed when people complained. All the other xenotypes that are left are so boring compared to yours!

Speaking of vanilla races expanded, is there a master list that contains the genes added by every VRE mod?

Oskar Potocki

We never made one, because we had no need for one!

Kuru Chilion

Ah I see, I just wanted to see any overlap between alpha genes and VRE genes, (like archon and AG adding pregnancy duration genes, total lung rot immunity from fungoid and AG, and a gene that forces the night owl trait). It's not VE's problem, just thought there was one to make the search a little easier.

Oskar Potocki

I mean… Sarg codes all of our Races Expanded mods. I’m sure he took care of all the overlap while doing it :)

What issues did people have with tieflings, lol?

Gideon

Hi, it seems my steam client and web browser cannot load the pictures of this mod and any earlier vanilla expanded mod series, is there a possible fix? For the record any mods released later than this mod have loaded images as usual.

Oskar Potocki

Correct, the mod infographics were uploaded on imgur which has been banned in the UK. You can access them just fine if you use a VPN. Changing over to a new host on all the old mods would be a gargantuan task requiring Reuploading and relinking thousands of infographics.
