Hey everyone and welcome to another Typical Tuesday Suggestions thread.Today, let's talk about robots. I'm looking at you, Android Tiers, with your super OP Mark 5 robots! Some people suggested that I can make my own robot mod. I would like to know how you would like to have it. I am not saying I am working on one, I just need your opinion and ideas!

This TTS thread will be used from 22/10/2019 to 29/10/2019.

The one thing I would ask for it that it does not need Humanoid Alien Races. Even tho the mod is great and I was the one who asked the original maker (Erdelf) to make it, these days the mod makes too much trouble in my load order. I will post some more ideas for the actual robots after work

So about those ideas I promised: - Robots should be more mid to late game. Building your own bots should require a lot of research and more rare material. - Instead of killing bots, they can be downed like mechanoids. That gives you the option to shut them down and reuse them after repairing them. - Other colonies use bots too and you can encounter them in raids. This would work well with the feature above. - instead of having different looking bots for different tasks, you can “design” the bot when building him (choose head and body) and when done it’s a blank bot. You then need to use a programming workbench to add different au packages like cleaning, cooking, patrolling, etc. - bots can be upgraded at an upgrade workbench where you can install different parts. This could give the blade that mechanoids drop another use. - low tier bots without protection can be driven “mad” by mechanoid ships and become hostile. - rare and unique “ancient” bots that can be found in map events. - a very late game mechanic to transfer the brain of your colonist into a bot. - as for the design, I would ask you tot ale a look at the early robot portraits that came with Stellaris, they could look cool. - bots can also become sentient if you install and AI core and become kinda full colonists. Just some ideas! :)

Helixien already suggested a lot of thing that i would find interesting. I think a really important part of a robot mod like this is the balancing. If you choose to make them modular I think the parts should be really mediocre, expensive, or scarce quest items to balance them. Maybe some type of template robot and you add parts via surgery to fit it your needs. I also think robots should maybe not feel pain but should be unable to research and socialize. I like the Idea of putting in an AI Core to enable this and make the worker bot to some kind of android for the drawback of an expensive and rare item. To get them there should be some kind of spacer tech or some type of rescue quest. Maybe you have to bring parts to repair the robot or even spacer parts. Robots should not be too common. In my mind a rimworld is a place where glitterworld tech is really scarce and expensive and archotech items and technology is like magic. This makes it so interesting and desireable to get them. I hope i could help you with some of my ideas.

Hi, first just wanted to say amazing work. I would love to see some sort of spacer/robotics/scrapper faction that repurposes dead mechanoids to create jury rigged armour, weapons, and technology.

Just wanted to say you're doing great work Oskar! This is a little offtopic for this suggestion thread, but I wanted to gauge your interest. I know myself and Dr. Zhivago are pretty interested in Animal Gear. It's a framework that allows animals to use equipment like humanoid pawns. It lacks content for many animals though, even vanilla. Do you think Animal Gear is something you'd like to work on for vanilla animals, as well as maybe some of your expanded bestiary? I suppose you could mistake a heavily armored trained attack bear as a robot while running in abject terror ... As for on-topic, personally I've never been a fan of the robot/android mods. I find it more interesting and challenging for gameplay/story to use normal pawns for any of the uses you might use the robots/androids for.

I don't think people mind too much when it's a framework with no conflicts. Hugslib is an example. I think most people hate dependencies when it's a list, and if those dependencies create conflicts. Animal Gear has none of those issues, and if you make any gear it can be in its own mod, so that only the gear has the dependency. Meant to reply ...

CowboysandUnicorns At this point I have way too much on my plate to volunteer for help, and any artistic work is locked behind the Uranium tier. I have projects to finish before my schedule clears up.
