Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new development blog, this time focused on the new Vanilla Races Expanded module.

Phytokins are something we have wanted to do for a long time. It was actually one of the most requested things - both internally (our team) as well as in the community as a whole. A race of powerful psycasters, advisors of kings, similar to the sorcerers in the Witcher universe. They're not standard baseliners either - Phytokins are engineered to thrive on the forest planet of Phytok. They are half-human, half-tree. That's right.

Their barkskin makes them resistant to blunt trauma, their higher aptitude for farming combined with the Green Thumb gene makes them excellent with plants of any kinds, their inaptitude towards shooting and melee makes them poor warriors, but they more than make up for it with their ability to become insanely powerful psycasters.

They are a very rare subspecies of humans. They also reproduce through a unique way - A phytokin mother mates with a male of any xenotype, and once pregnant, plants a saplingchild - a small, cabbage-like plant that acts as an extension of the mother. The child born this way is an exact copy of the mother too, allowing you to have somewhat of an immortal Phytokin. I mean, it's not really an immortal Phytokin, but it's a copy of the mother, so you know, it's almost like cloning! Here are the infographics:

Let me know what you think about what Phytokins have to offer, and what you're looking forward to the most!I will catch you all very soon with a Release post!

Since psychic sensitivity will grow with age, how long Phytokin can live? Also what will "clone" inherit from mother other than looks? Will have same traits/passions?

J L

Is the "psychic sensitivity grows as they age" based on physical age or chronological age? I'm wondering if a chronomancer phytokin drains age, does she lose sensitivity?

DeltaCortis

Will this be compatible with the Anima Theme mod? Regardless looking forward to these really nice.

Lydia

Any chance of opening up their pregnancy to lovin' with fenale partners, similar to the New Mexico Whiptail lizards mating to prompt their asexual reproductions , or at least compatbility with a fertility procedure of some sort? Thinking these would be perfect for a colony of gay plant-witches.

Steven

Very cool! I've tried making Dryadkin with Alpha Genes, but this looks like it'll really enable the plant-human hybrid colonies. Are their genes endo or xeno genes out of curiosity? The saplingchild makes me think they're endogenes, in which case that progressive psy sensitivity on a Sanguophage-Phytokin Chronomancer sounds like it might get pretty crazy. Also, getting a Plants Curiosity Xenogenepack and applying it to a Guarulenkin Plants Specialist sounds like it'll be crazy. I'll definitely be making some kind of "Sacred Grove" colony once this releases.

These sound very powerful, but also very cool. Personally I'd like to see them to be only encounterable/acquirable through a similar way like sanguophages are encontered - rare quests/rewards.

Oooh, can't wait. I was trying to make a tree xenohuman the other day but couldn't find the right cosmetics. Sapling children sounds like a neat new mechanic.

Love the ideas, very well thought out, unique and interesting. As a big fan of the dryads I love how this mod gives them the love they needed for biotech. Great job!

TheFirstLuka

Is it pronounced Phytokin as in "psypower" or something else?

TheFirstLuka

Where can you find a Phytokin?

Artemis Martin

Understanding that the team is sticking to the "no aliens" rule: this is probably your best work on a race/alien yet, and far above the vanilla options: They impact play-style, utilize the universe instead of simply not conflicting with it, and enhance other DLCs. Great work, VE team!

KaneLives

I love Rimworld. I love Modding. I love Rimworld modding. Jecrell was the OG, but you guys are in another level.

I am so excited to have Phytokins in the game, though I wish there were also male Phytokins. Cannot wait to have Phytokins in my next colony.

Justin SUN

Such a great mod and a fantastic idea!! My two cent suggestion, how about making the hungry rate under the sunshine at a discounted level but not zero?

Lord Snarky

Do these guys have a custom scenario like the Saurids?

Victor Hamacek

whats the plan for the gau ones if you got the anima theme mod? it will look kinda weird having just one dryad with the other color scheme

TJ Espinoza

Any more details to share about when the remaining trees for the Vanilla psycasts expanded will be released? I think the remaining psycasts, especially the guawalker and anima focused one would be perfect for a phytokin colony.

Jerry

I absolutely love these genes! I'd love to know if phosynthesis would work with sun lamps, or with modded transparent roofs.

Vaculity

What will happen to the Gauranlenkin if Anima Theme was used though?

8BitBoar

Super stoked! This has been the race I’ve been looking forward to the most I think! I’ve only just thought of this question, but you mentioned that the Phytokin are powerful psycasters. Will the children of Phytokin be clones where psycast abilities will be unique? As in,if a Phytokin has a saplingchild will all abilities from the Phytokin be copied over as well? Or will we be able to have unique “clones” where the mother may have focused on healing psycasts (for example) and her child could focus on other psycasts?

Smaco

I was ABOUT to start a tribal colony, im gonna wait for this! awesome

Eevee Chad

Would it be silly to turn one of these guys into a conflagerator?
