I decided to do another remake! It’s been such a long time since I made the original painting back in 2009:

I wanted to revisit it with this quick speedpainting to see how I would approach the colors and anatomy differently. My approach to drawing figures has changed a lot because I am much less afraid to stylize, and as a result the proportions are way more exaggerated. I also have a much different approach to color - I try to bring in more vibrant secondary tones, especially with more character-based works like these where I think the color brings a lot of the energy and vibrance. But the main thing I’m happy about is that it’s much easier for me to draw 3-dimensional elements like the hibiscus flowers!

My style has changed so much that I don’t think one of these is better than the other - they’re each different and have their own separate types of appeal. I still think the hair looks a lot better in the original. But exercises like these are always a confidence booster because it helps me realize how much more intuitively I work now, just as a result of many years of practice.

Hope you like it! The process video is coming up later this week!

I love your style now so much. Of course you have change a lot! I mean, the original is from 2009 and now it is 2024! You have improved so much. Your art is very vibrant and it's alive! It's a unique world. I like a lot the new version, your character now has soul, I love her intense eyes

Amazing. This is something I've planed on doing myself, but actually feel a bit scared 🤣 What if...type of a thing.

WOW .. very nice…..Practice (and experience does) makes better ..if not perfect. Enjoy your vacation Perhaps… this would make a future challenge for us to pick an old piece and see how far we’ve grown?

Always encouragement to see positive change.

I can't when art teachers get intense with human proportions and things like "bodi should be 8 heads tall, open hand approx. 1 head size, legs this many heads" xD ever since I joined your Patreon I learned that you can actually draw without following so many strict rules and still create beautiful art ! I really like your stylizations and how organic and fun your shapes look 🫡✨ also lilac and red look so pretty together 😍

Beautiful! I don't think I've ever seen the original before! So cool to see how much your style has changed. I love the more vibrant color palette you used!

Wow to see that improvement is so inspiring 🙌 I love how vibrant your colours in your newer versions are with the beautiful contrast between the red and blue✨ And the new painting is so much more emotional touching 🙏

always so inspiring and fun to see when you incorporate a really vibrant color that i probably wouldn’t have ever dreamed could work so well with the rest of your subject matter! I also happened to watch the lightning tutorial for the first time right after seeing this post and it was a great little pairing for a loish lesson of the day! 💜

I love how you made the colors pop so much, the first one is very eerie, and has very dull colors (but the pop of red from the hibiscus’s still makes it intriguing to look at)…While the second is very flowy, calming (but still playful), pleasant, but still exciting to look at. In all, they both look AMAZING!
