It's time for the August tutorial! This one is on creating an artistic routine. This is something I talk about quite a lot in a few of my other tutorials, like imposter syndrome for artists and a roadmap for artistic growth. This tutorial is about which steps you can take to build a routine that matches with your own schedule, artistic goals, and interests! It's intended for those of you who want to get a routine going, but aren't sure where to start. It might also be helpful for those of you who want to tweak and adjust your routine to better fit your goals!

There are a couple of helpful resources that go along with this tutorial. First of all, I mention a worksheet that can help you set goals that align with your interests and artistic strengths. You can find that as an attachment to this post and it's called Setting_goals_worksheet.pdf. As mentioned in the tutorial, this is completely optional - only use it if you think it will help you!

Another helpful PDF is the resource list. It basically provides you with a list of tutorials and resources here on the Patreon that go hand-in-hand with specific artistic practices. The idea is that you first formulate which artistic practices you want to implement into your routine, and then consult the list to see if there's anything helpful there. It can also be a helpful way to navigate all of the tutorials here - there are a lot so it can be challenging!

As always, here is a cheat sheet with the most important info from the tutorial! You can also find it as a PDF below.

I hope you find this helpful! ❤

This os really good. I realise that drawing every day or most days would further my drawing but not really knowing what to do. I like these flexible routines.

Hi Loish! I've been wondering of that little clip-on keyboard you have at the edge of your tablet!! What is it called? It looks so ergonomic <3 Thank you in advance :)

Erik

I’ve been needing this breakdown. I have adhd and I’m always asking about routines & no one can give me a useful answer!! This is so so helpful. Thank you !

I didn’t know how bad I wanted this video until you posted it. Thanks!

Jessy

Would it be possible to get a printer friendly version for the worksheet because the whole backround is gray?

Just signed up because I’ve been needing an artist routine for awhile. This just confirms I need structure especially for art.

Melody

This is right on time. There aren’t a lot of resources or explainers out there like this, with good examples of how to do it and practical advice. As always thank you for sharing your expertise

this subject is far too overlooked, I'm so happy I found this tutorial! I enjoy your art for some time now and I'm enjoying your tutorials even more because they make so much sense! I was kind of lost in my will to do art and now I've got a simple path and advices to follow! What could I ask more?

Kimberly Monson

This was incredibly helpful! I haven't been making a lot of progress with my art lately and this has given me some great direction. I'm looking forward to the worksheet! I really benefit from writing things down and putting the chaos in my brain onto paper in order to understand my own thoughts. Thanks for the great tutorial!

I'm very fortunate to have watched your instagram reels these days because it was exactly what I needed, and it brought me here. In a moment of my life that I just moved far away from where I lived, my gas tank just got empty and I couldn't draw because all of my energy went to moving out myself to my new home. It's time to replenish my energy and get back to my artistic habits, having fun and improving with your artistic routine advices. Thank you. Keep up the good stuff.

This was very helpful to watch and learn. I've been experiencing some burn out and probably too much pressure on myself. Your video helped me realize that I tend to avoid my comfort zone in my art. I've had the belief that my comfort art zone isn't mature/evolved enough so I don't want to spend time on it. But when I fell back on my comfort zone, it actually felt good and true to myself in a way. I REALLY appreciate the advice you shared!

Lil Chen

Good golly, this is exactly what I needed. Thank you!

Inês Garcia

This was so helpful! To be able to see this kind of information so well explained and organized really inspired me to think in better ways to teach in my art classes! Thank you so much Loish!

Leaohness

May I ask what kind of keyboard you are using with yout tablet? I'm searching for a good one as it appears they don't make the wacom one anymore

Can’t wait to build a routine and see how it affects my drawing abilities! Thanks for the tutorial!

Thank you so much for this video, very interesting. I definitely need a routine because I only draw when I have a project to do/new idea and I feel stuck because I don't improve as a I would like to.

emma barsanti

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I've been struggling a lot to create a healthy routine lately, and this really helped me!

Went to my really old Deviant art account hahahaha, and watched the whole gallery; then went to my IG now...and I didn't noticed that I needed to do that, the growth is huuuuuge. Almost cried hahaha, thank you for the reminder. <3 I'm mostly a traditional artist, but wanted to say that I'm learning a lot from your tutorials. Thanks!

Loish

I'm so happy to hear that! we really forget to check our improvements from time to time as artists - always looking forward but not looking back at how far we came. thanks for your kind words, I'm glad you're enjoying the tutorials!

I recently went through a bunch of my old sketchbooks and even though I didn't go through them in chronological order, I can still really see the growth and more than that I could tell how I was feeling about myself and my art through each piece. What struck me the most was that my favorite pieces now are the ones I did spontaneously; the goofy ones where I just grabbed my pen and made something.
