It's time for a new monthly challenge! This month we'll be doing statue studies, which is basically a type of master study focused specifically on sculptures. This is a great exercise for studying volume and lighting, and also for understanding the incredible artistry that went into these sculptures. You can create greyscale studies, but if you're feeling adventurous, you can also add some color! The inspiration folder has some examples of how you can approach this.

Visit this link to find all essential info about the challenge, including:

an overview of the challenge information

tips & advice

links to resources to help you complete it

a bonus challenge for if you have extra time

folders with reference images and inspiration images

Below is the list of helpful resources that can help you complete this challenge:

OVERLAPPING SHAPES & FORESHORTENING: This tutorial talks about how I use overlapping shapes to give a sense of volume and 3-dimensionality.

RESOURCE // VALUE STUDIES: This is the resource video for the value studies challenge, which has a lot of overlaps with making statue studies!

PROCESS VIDEO // STATUE STUDIES: This is the full process video for my statue studies that I created last year.

There is also a PDF file attached to this post with the challenge information, including clickable links.

I can't wait to see what you make! Feel free to post the results on social media with the hashtag #LoishPatreonChallenge, or share your results in the thread over in the discord server!

Stupid question: are we supposed to choose 1 statue and make a study sheet for it or multiple statues with various angles? I have always wanted to try this as my values are always off. 💜

My moment! Saved a bunch of pretty references a couple weeks ago and now this challenge's the perfect opportunity for me to finally work on those hahaha
