I fused together two of my biggest inspirations: art nouveau and mermaids! My number one artistic inspiration is Alfonse Mucha, and I stumbled upon some of his sketches and rough work which is even more beautiful than his finished posters in my opinion. You can see them here: http://www.muchafoundation.org/en/gallery/browse-works/object_type/drawings

So I chanelled that aesthetic into some mermaid art. It was so satisfying! Hope you like these!

You are right. His unfinished work is so much more interesting feels sort of weightless. Beautiful mermaids! A themed challenge with something like this would be amazing 😊🥰

Melissa Sofia Joaquin

I love the movements it is so smooth!! Perfectly splendid 🙌🏻

Oh gosh, I love this! You have captured the aesthetic well and I love the muted colours with the little pop of aqua blue. :) Thank you for the link to that website. Did you see the studies for The Moon and Stars? I thought they were so beautiful. Definitely giving me some inspiration!

Riley Morgan

I love these. I love the colours. So vintage. I would love to have this hanging up in house. I love mermaids. Especially Ariel. It is giving such Ariel vibes. Honestly spectacular

Thomas

You’re shapes are absolutely gorgeous

John Beatty Art

Very beautiful! I love Mucha too, but my favorite artist/illustrator of all time is J.C. Leyendecker!! Have you ever studied or did any studies of his work/style? I would love to see that in the future. Thanks as always, Loish!!

I am obsessed with how much flow the hair that wraps around to the tail adds to the pieces!

Harold Maduro

thanks for putting a name and a face to his art, I have always seen it (or illustrations inspired by him), but didn't knew him

Juan Gagliardo

That's a weird thing tha happens to most artist: people prefer the rough sketch over the finished piece. Some artists on Instagram have given up and only make rough sketches

I love Mucha so much <3 When I worked at the library I always had to look into the Mucha books during work xD (it was a university library with an extrem big art history section (which I studied) and he had a whole shelf :D)

I love this mermaids. The colours and movements is beautiful. I love Alfons Mucha too and I am proud because he was Czech like I am. He is my favourite Czech artist and it is for me inspiration. ❤️

Loish

he is one of the best of all time! thanks for the kind words :)

Loish

ahh nice! i haven't seen much of his work in books, mostly just from the internet. I need to get myself a good mucha book!

Loish

i definitely understand the appeal! although i'm sad that algorithms on instagram drive artists to have to make art so quickly to keep up with the posting schedule.

Loish

ariel is my other biggest inspiration :) grew up watching the little mermaid and it had such an intense effect on me!

When I was in prague a few years back I visited the museums shop (of the kafka and mucha museum) and I could have bought everything! lol But I recommend a big book full of his illustrations. I borrowed a few when I was working in the library and they are so inspiring <3

Alicia

This is absolutely stunning. The colors, the lines...I love mermaids so much. Such pretty art to enjoy on a Tuesday morning!

Hey Loish ! Gorgeous Mermaids 😊👏 I was wondering if you have any tips for integrating a master's /a senior artist's style into one's own skillset ?  Is it something that's more intuitive or are there specific pointers to be kept in mind while carrying out a style study ? 😅

Loish

hey rohan! My approach is just to observe the art closely and try to copy it. It definitely helps me to try and transfer the style onto a different thing, like taking mucha's style and putting it on a mermaid, so that I analyze the style more and observe more critically! I think in the end it's something more intuitive, since it's your own interpretation of the art style that drives the study.

Rohan

Thank you so much for this advice 🙏 ! Will keep this in mind when I carry out my own studies 😊
