Hey Patreon buddies! I've gotten a lot of feedback from you guys on what kind of tutorial topics you'd like to see in my monthly videos, and I've worked through the most popular options. I'm now at a point where I need to generate some more ideas for videos, and wanted to check in with you on what you'd like to see. I have two questions for you:

1. What do you struggle with in your art right now? Anything you'd like to see a resource or video about?

2. What kind of monthly video would you like to see from me? I can continue to make tutorials, but I'm also open to other types of video content, like a livestream drawing session or studio tour. If there's anything specific you want to see, let me know!

My main reason for asking is because I want to get a sense of what you guys are interested in and make sure the video content aligns with what my patrons want :) Any feedback would be awesome! You can comment below or also send a DM or email to loishh@gmail.com. Thanks so much for reading! ♥

What a great thing to do! I would really appreciate a video about perspective. Mostly in poses.

mlara_artescape

Would love to see some “Draw with me” kind of videos, either in your sketchbook (loved when you posted those) or digital sketches. Maybe more videos of your studies? Would also love to see your approach on drawing props/objects, because I have a feeling you would have your own way of giving inanimate objects a lot of life ☺️ sorry if there are too many different ideas! 🙏

Danielle LaBore

I would LOVE to see some face tutorials! It’s something I’ve always struggled with and would love to get better at.

Impyuuo

I'm struggling a lot with organic stuff like trees especially branches or flowers lol. Having a hard time getting them to look nice and "real"

Nika

I absolutely LOVE your monthly tutorials, they've helped me so much! I'd love a tutorial on how you render textures (glass, stone, metals, etc) or on how you stylize different body types/facial features (how to avoid same-face syndrome) I enjoy your content so much! 💖

Aurelia de Bouard

I love all your tutorial! So anything ! Regarding other topic, I would love to learn more about how to market our art, how to communicate as a freelance with client, how to build a portfolio, how to separate social media with art production (meaning not to be affected by it and using it more like a powerful tool) , how to plan our art content, etc… like the hidden part of the iceberg for artist , the things that we don’t learn from school but once we are in the work market I hope I make sense :/ Again thank you for sharing all your content with us ! I’m so happy to be your patrons !

tobidrawsdigitally

Thank you so much for asking! I have really liked the Q&A videos you did some months ago and it would be great to see another one in the future!🙂

Aurelia de Bouard

Oh also ! A Q&A in love would be amazing! And a monthly study drawing live where we can join you and draw with you

Impyuuo

Also curly hair! I looove how you did the hair in your Lemon piece. For some reason curly hair is just so hard to paint haha

Koza

Hey! For me, I would love to see your process of thinking about composition.

Nahla

I would like to see more videos on procreate ,and I would like face or body tutorials! Thank you so much 😊

Cosmic Tea

Absolutely struggling with rendering and making my drawings look less flat, so it would be cool to see you cover these topics a bit more! As for video content a studio tour sounds lovely! Would love to see your workspace setup. Also think it would be cool to see some studio vlog style videos where you take us through an average work day/week/month for you. Thank you so much for the content you post here, it’s helped me so much on my art journey. So happy to be able to support you here ❤️

Babett

I think aging is a good topic. Just as I am struggling with Charakterdesign. I love your monthly tutorials. ♥️

Tran

I love watching your tutorials and process. They teach me a lot. So I always appreciate those :) I'd love to see more of these videos with guys instead of girls. I'm curious to see what your process would capture, because I expect it would be very different from your girl illustrations. Nothing wrong with the girls tho! I love them :D I struggle drawing semi-realistic expressions, and bc of it my characters look boring and samey. There's a lot of tutorials about disney-like expressions; I understand expressions have the same foundations regardless of style, but a lot of the little details are usually lost on those very exaggerated characters. Also this may be really silly, but I struggle a lot colouring on procreate because of the display! I get drawings looking great on the ipad, that look muddy or with a lot of contrast/saturation on the computer. I don't know if you'd have any advice about this :D In any case, I'm sure I'd love anything you post, as usual. Thanks Loish!

Daniella

I really struggle right now with choosing an idea for a painting and developing a concept. I’ve noticed you have some pretty interesting paintings with combining nature with figure drawing. I would love for you to show us how you build up an idea to the finished peice 🙏🏻

MoniQQ

Sometimes you look at a painting and you know something is off but you can’t put your finger on it what it is. I would love to see a video on how to make it easier for you to spot mistakes (be it wrong proportions or anything) and what is the difference between amateurish and professional looking art. I am into that look of as little rendering as possible and some people nail it but many times it just looks flat, unfinished or lifeless.

Juan Gagliardo

Right right now I'm struggling with Inktober, so I can't think of anything else ha ha 🤷‍♀️ But I'd say having a monthly livestream drawing session would be awesome. Another thing that could be nice is a critique video. No need for roasting, but just some comments on what things you would personally correct of a given piece of art.

Vanessa Kaliwo

I love all your content, it's changed my life and perspective as an artist! In terms of art related videos I would love to see you give your insights on how to design original and unique characters, and possibly how to build a character design or visual development portfolio, tips on being a freelance digital artists. And then I would love to see how you structure your days as a full time artist, so maybe a day in the life or a studio vlog. Thank you so much for all you do and inspiring all of us to be better artists 🤗

Gamze Turhan

I agree with one of the comments here: choosing an idea for drawing. This is what I struggle the most. How to find inspiration, where to begin and develop that idea. Thank you Loish 🙏🏼

deletia

Hello, thanks for asking! One thing I'd like for you to talk about is how you capture likeness while stylizing your pieces! I still remember how in love I was with a piece you drew of Amy Whinehouse. Also, a Q&A about how you deal with your time between commissions, life and personal art? How you divide your day/week and if you have like a list, a schedule or planner you follow through. Anything else is fair game for me though, I've learned a lot since becoming a patreon of yours than I did in years!

Carmen

For me it would be on how to convey a story and emotion, I find that sometimes my painting look too lifeless. Thanks so much for asking, it really shows your dedication!🧡

rvv26

Hello! I've been struggling with getting my ideas on paper. I have these really nice drawing ideas in my head, but when I draw it, it never turns out just right. Not only that, but I seem to be very dependent on references when I have this problem and get frustrated when I can't find the perfect ones. It would be great if you could do a tutorial/video about how to get your ideas better on paper.

Lovewin

I’ve really been struggling with inking on bigger pieces specifically in Procreate. Normally i go with the square image or 4x6 but when it comes to like A4 at 600 or 4K inking is a whole other mater. It’s almost like the pressure is off for me at that point? I also just feel like a struggle with my sketches being to messy instead of loose so i end up inking over it and then lowering the opacity until i either walk away from it or feel frustrated. That and my poses are WAY TOO STIFF imo.

Lena Tityuk

Composition and how do you pick focal point of your art and help viewers to follow through it as you want them to

Nika

Hard and soft shadows. I'm really struggling adding hard shadows to my works, cause they always look off to me. Also hair and shading it.

Vale Fdez

I love all your content is really helpful, not quite sure if you have talked about this before but I'll say drawing different kind of faces for them to look interesting and appealing, how to know when or which features to stylize, more about structure, thank you so much for your hard work ❤

Adri

literally everything you wrote here is what I'd love to see from Loish. Especially how she approaches more masculine looking characters!

Jehan Khonat

Heyy <3 Right now I'm struggling with creating art! Not a lack of motivation, but just a random general fear - I literally cannot explain. I loved your video about finding your style and I think more mindset videos would be incredible!

Adri

as some of the other people have mentioned here I'd love to see your approach to masculine characters and how to generate ideas for a concept! A lot of the drawings I do look the same because I struggle with coming up with ideas.

Axel Oil

My main struggle with art right now is actually how to schedule my time. And motivation. But you probably have better things to share on future videos. A studio tour sounds nice too. I'm sure whatever you decide will be interesting though.

Amélie

Just a thought but I would love to see you discovering new art materials ! You ask some suggestions some weeks (months ?) ago and it would be really nice to walk with you through it (I hope what I wrote makes sense). For the other question, I'm really struggling with regularity. I can have my moments when I'll draw regularly but at some point I lost myself and just let things go and do something else. That's probably a personal problem but if you have some advice to help me, that would be awesome. Thanks Lois for all your work ♥️

Salena

I agree with a few other comments; I struggle with creating characters in a sense on not knowing which features to stylise more, how to avoid making the same faces, and just being able to commit to a character concept and finishing that piece. I also agree with the idea of you Maybe giving tips, showing us, or giving us a mini project for our own as homework on how you would approach making a character design/visual development portfolio? That would be extremely helpful. 🖤

Loish

that's a great idea, thanks so much!

Loish

i love the idea of making a video about generating ideas / overcoming a block!

Loish

that's a good one. thank you!

Auroria

I would like to see how you approach to anatomy cause that’s what i struggle most. Some video of life drawing would be perfect. Another idea would be to see videos of you drawing on paper with different type of tools and paint such as watercolor, acrylics etc.. thank you so much for all the work you do for us! 💕

Emily Cartier

A studio tour sounds like a fun break. A live draw session or 3 scheduled out to give you a break from writing/organizing more academic videos might be a really good way to allocate rest times for you while letting us ask questions more realtime. It might also work as an idea generation tool, especially if you’ve got someone who can help you moderate. Some list video sessions, like 8 tutorials that really helped you, or 5 favorite artists or 3 shapes you love almost as much as blobs might be easy video options to write up.

JessL

I would love know know more procreate techniques, background and lighting scenes.

Emily Cartier

Not Loish but… https://youtu.be/-czejm1kOgI Procreate 5.2 preview stuffs with their in house brush designer. The whole conversation, he’s drawing with one of the stock inking brushes, Tinderbox. https://youtu.be/VQVWh7p05Yk Marzullo uses a very big 2 comics inking style, totally not what Loish does, lots of very precise technical drawing. I think that vid is Procreate 4.3 or so, and the stock ink set has changed a good bit since then. These days I’d use Syrup to get the look he was shooting for, but it didn’t exist back then. Loish has tutorials on avoiding stiff poses and getting smooth flowing inking, and they are pretty in depth. I think I’d need to make up about 5-6 assignments for each vid to really work through the bare bones of what she discusses in those videos.

Harold Maduro

Hello Lois, first of all, I love your Patreron and I'm excited everytime you upload a tutorial, they are all super helpfull for me, even if I'm not going to use them right away (like the drawing animals or painting waves). Probably will be helpful in a future project, so I treasure them. That being said, it would be sad to loose one month's tutorial because it's replaced with another sort of video (like a vlog or tour). I like when you post an extra video, like your lectures on conferences, when you talk about the industry or the business side of it.. as an addition to what for me is the main event: each month's tutorial. Ok, back to topic, I will echo some of the ideas of my fellow Patreons: 1. Head/face composition: I feel more confortable than before drawing faces, but they all have the same expression. 2. Traditional: ink. I have a year sketching with pencils, but everytime I try inking it's a struggle. Loved your last tutorial where you drew a girl with pumpkings.. but would benefit of one where you go a little slower on the shadowing part (both hard shadow and hatching). Last night I took one of Polina Brights sketches (before watercolor) and replicated it with fineliners.. it helped a lot. 3. Different body shapes. I love your drawings when it's not the perfect atletic shape, it opens my eyes to so many possibilities in a character. 4. A follow up to your drawing clothes tutorial. Seeing your traditional sketches, I love how you draw hoodies or big jackets. Hope this helps. Looking forward to get your new book!!

Eszter

I'd love to see many more animal drawing/painting videos. Pre-recorded and livestream. :)

Radka Kopecka (radu.k.art)

Hi Lois! I struggle with creating story-like illustration involving a character, I want to create something interesting, not just portraits or a pose, but don't know where to start. I love all your tutorials, I think they can be really detail-focus, for example like you did with the water. I know it's not your main program, but I would also like to see more Procreate videos - maybe even something like draw-with-me, or quick studies, photo studies of your travel photographs or something like that. Live drawing stream would also be really nice :) Thank you for what you doing for us!!!

Nyxee

I second this; as much as I would love to see other types of videos (like what a regular day looks like for you as an artist) I would also be sad to miss out on a monthly tutorial. All of your tutorials so far have been so useful to me and I'm excited for the next one ☺️

Rhien

I'm joining the crowd with the ideas for paintings. My issues often are the sketch is much better, has more life and the finished version is just lacking something. So your thoughts on how you do make an interesting piece from something boring would be nice. Like what makes a work interesting in general 🙃 Ah yes, the portfolio reviews would be great, but i'm afraid to think about it with so many people in line 😅

Nyxee

I would love to see a tutorial on how to study anatomy. I have a few anatomy textbooks but every time I open them and try to practice anatomy, I don't know where to start... Like, I don't know what to do with the information. Part of me expects them to be like "okay here the exercises related to that chapter" but that's not the case and I feel lost!

Danielle Davies

Hi Loish, I’m sure others have suggested these but I’ll list a few things below that I’m particularly interested in seeing; 1. How you generate an idea/topic of what you want to draw, do you create a moodboard before starting? Could you show us the process of how you decide what to pick to draw when you don’t have a brief/or any work to do…. I really struggle with that. I have a general fear to create as well, so how do you over come that/any mindset videos would be great on how to beat art block. 2. Studio tour would be a great chill video, I’d also like to know if you have any recommended art books, animations, or your top 10 artists and why, equipment you recommend eg. iPad case/stand- nice chill videos. 3. PROCREATE tutorials of everything! I feel you have more photoshop then procreate tutorials. Tutorials on landscapes, animals, final piece on there. 4. How do you take a hand drawn sketch and turn it digital… do you scan it or take a photograph? 5. Detailed tutorials on eyes/nose/mouths to show expression. 6. In depth Tutorial on how to draw clothes and how to paint hair. - On procreate 7. Tutorial on Composition and how to capture movement 8. Exclusive Patreon only drawthisisnyourownstyles - but with a process video of how you drew yours first Thanks so much for everything you do on here! It’s amazing, and I’m so glad you let us have access to everything you know for a reasonable price! 💜

Ginger Apple Scribbles

I have found all the videos so far to be super helpful! One thing I am interested in studying more in art is the idea of how to create a piece that connects emotionally with the viewer-either through storytelling, lighting, color, emotion, etc. I definitely think you have that essential emotional connection and impact in your work and it would be interesting to hear more about how to imbue art with those qualities! Thanks!

Ivana

Hi Loish! I would love to see a video on how you approach character design/concept art. Everything from where to start to how to present it to someone. Also Q&A videos are always helpful and fun to listen to.

Andrea Falotico

I would love to watch a tutorial on composition and background tutorials as well! Thanks for everything you do on here Loish 💕

Someone Somewhere

I always accidentally over shade the face, I don't know how to do things subtly lol

Zack Lowell

Hello, the major suggestion I have is to give us assignments alongside your videos. I struggle to learn if I don't have suggested homework to do. So maybe assignments and a discord channel where people can post their work. You don't have to give feedback or anything of course. But I take much more advantage of the content with suggested assignments or homework of sorts.

Ashley Cirimeli

I can’t remember if this one has been done before, but I would love to see a video on thumbnails and composition planning!

Rachel Hanke

Hi Lois! I really struggle with maintaining stylization through the rendering phase because I tend to view stylized elements as "wrong" when I push them beyond realistic proportions. E.g. the longer I spend rendering something the more I push it toward realism and it loses uniqueness. Any thoughts you have on that topic would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for continuing with your patreon content all these months, I really enjoy seeing it all!

FaroreNightclaw

Something about how you go from initial contact to finished image for commissions could be useful. I love learning about all your techniques and stuff but they largely seem to be focused on making personal/original art and that doesn't apply to me 80% of the time since lately the only art I do is for work (ie personal commissions). | Related to that, something about finding the energy to work on personal stuff when you're feeling overwhelmed with work would be good. Just 'do less work and focus on personal stuff more' isn't really an option for me since I need to work to live and can't cut down on the amount I'm doing. Generating ideas would also be useful since I think part of my problem is that I just don't have any ideas for personal art anymore. Procreate basics tutorial. I've read the manual but there's so much that just don't feel intuitive for me coming from Clip Studio Paint (or Paint Tool SAI or Photoshop or any other desktop art program) and I struggle to integrate the knowledge from the manual with actual working in the program. There are a lot of Procreate tutorials out there but every single one I've found so far assumes a base level of knowledge and competency with the program. I know how to add brushes (I haven't done it yet though) but how to does the brush editing panel work? How do I know which brushes are smudgers and which lay down paint? Why do some brushes have stabilization and others don't at all? How do you use gestures when you have shaky hands? How the heck does the selection tool work? etc. I also would be interested in a more generalized, less specifically art tool focused video on how to 'let go' wrt stylization vs realism and how to make the jump from realism to stylization if you've been taught, like a lot of us are, that realism is the only acceptable goal and should be the only thing everyone aspires to x.x I love your stylization and want to develop my own distinct style so badly but can't help feeling like I'm constantly held back by this unshakeable 'art learning' voice shrieking that I will never improve unless I 100% master realism first x.x I think that's probably a good start to go on?

• PROCREATE! Lol- more tutorials using procreate would be AMAZING. • SKIN- normal skintones of *several shades* of the spectrum (and how to make sure they don't turn out... muddy). (And I personally have trouble blending it... while letting it keep some texture.) • BACKGROUNDS- Simple and great backgrounds for portrait-ish pieces. (And how to make sure they always match/compliment the main drawing). • FLOWERS/Flora! Regular, glowing, imaginary. Whichever. Lol • Personally, I have a lot of trouble making a face CONSISTENT for each angle. Since it's ALL imaginary proportions... how do you figure that out! 😆 Like... it's Susie from the front, Carla from the 3/4. Lol🤣 • Lighting is always welcomed! Different angles, or different times of day, etc. Opposing/dual ones like your stunning neon pieces. Woooo that was a LOT. Lol sorry! Thanks for always wanting to listen to your community. ❤ Hope the Kickstarter keeps growing!

Haru Hal Lune

I think i specifically struggle specifically with simplifying what im seeing and then working from there to a more complex/finished look. I also struggle with understanding lighting, especially on the face. Thank you for all the work you put in to everything for us!! ❣️

ScribbledCrayon

What do you do when the art just doesn’t want to come out? Or what to do to reduce stress around creating art? I don’t know if “art block” is truly the correct term, but listening to you during your tutorials, you always speak about following your feelings and training yourself to loosen up and find more fun in your work. Whether it becomes a tutorial to cover techniques and/or exercises to overcome these mental blocks, or even just a topic you discuss while creating a piece (like a “draw with me”) I would just love any input into the subject of creation through mental blocks…

Iridescently

Grats on the great Kickstarter backing btw! Id be interested in.. Outdoor backgrounds and how to make sure they flow with the main subject. (Especially colorwise/shading.) Maybe one on how to start getting commissions. I would also be interested in what you keep in mind while drawing someone else's character.

Cozy Cat (Andrea)

I'd love to see a video on composition, story telling, and also finding inspiration that helps you tell a story with your art :)

Phavriel

My latest struggles have been mostly related to art block, returning to art after depression. I just don't know where to begin, the black page is terrifying and I don't even knoe how to start and what to do to improvove my foundations like anatomy, prespective and composition.

Kate Press S Key

I look forward to the tutorial videos every month and would be really sad to lose those! I think my fellow patrons have come up with some excellent suggestions so I will second some of those ideas: Additional Procreate tutorials, idea generation, backgrounds for portrait/character-focused pieces, your approach to male characters. Also natural objects, such as trees, flora, etc. Myself, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a video on shape language. I'm so excited we unlocked those extra pages for your book, but I think seeing a video about that would be a real treat for us, too. Your clothing tutorial was amazing, and as another Patron mentioned, a follow up with more streetwear would be pretty great :) A video on focal points would be great. Various strategies to ensure that a viewer's eye is continually drawn to the focal point, would be pretty cool. Also, I'm always keen for tutorials on form and lighting - for example, lighting a face from different angles in different types of light. I was also thinking, if you ever wanted to shake things up, I've found that when some artists do "paintover" videos of other folks' work, while explaining their thoughts, approach, and techniques, those are extraordinarily helpful. (Sinix, on YouTube, is a great example). Thank you for all your amazing content. I'm excited to see whatever you come up with!

Lauren Nicole

I would love to see the tutorial for the black girl with the hummingbird and flowers! Is that just for the book? I’m more of a visual learner so I was just wondering. I also have a tendency to draw too small because a plain canvas is very intimidating! I would love to see a full in depth painting in procreate!

Shado

My main issues is picking color, having it turn muddy, and blending while keeping texture. Anything on these is neat

Delilah Espinosa

This might sound strange, but currently I'm struggling to draw feet. Hands and feet have always been a struggle, but my hand drawing has improved while my feet drawing are stuck in limbo. My Achilles heel though is perspective. Me and perspective is like oil and water. I know the basic principles of it, put actually using them is so complex for me. I'd also love to learn how to draw guys. I can come up with a million designs with girls, but my guys never look masculine enough lol.

Amber

This may be totally left field compared to most answers, but going back to the beginning and studying the art fundamentals would be a cool tutorial. I feel like there's so many tutorials out there about "how to draw hands" or "how to draw/color a flame", but there isn't anything about there that teaches you how to look at something in real life and figure it out yourself or create your own way to do it. (Does that make sense?) Like I noticed there's so many different ways to draw the same thing and I think I finally realized (I assume) its based on how each individual tackles the art fundamentals and that is what inspires the artist to draw/color the way that they do.

Harold Maduro

Agree! would also love a traditional to digital process (I also take a photo with my tablet or scan.. but then the sketch it's flat with it's background)

Tracie Timmer

Hi Lois! I love your tutorials and am always happy when new one's pop up. Some things I struggle with that I would love to learn your process for is self-motivation for personal/portfolio pieces and where to begin. Also character design structure and balance -- my character's always come out a little bit -- wobbly? And I think this was mentioned above, but more Procreate-based tutorials would be great! Thanks for all that you do -- your work is continually inspiring!

Zu Roque

I am still very much struggling with full body illustrations. I am very comfortable with portraits but once it comes down to drawing bodies, I just get frustrated and it prevents me from trying. I tried "studying" anatomy and breaking down each body part but I found that it felt like I was just drawing for drawing sake and not actually incorporating that, idk it's kinda weird. Differentiating between masculine and feminine bodies and portraits also, this is all in the concept art/sketching stage, not even rendering lol.

Roms

Hi Loish! I'd love to see more on specific topics like: 1. Light. I specially struggle in depicting light & it's direction, how it wraps around skin and objects like when drawing backgrounds or indoor scenes with multiple light sources/lighting conditions. 2. Maintaining perspective when adding characters to a background & vice versa 3. Environments, storefronts, and flora. I'd love to see more tutorials with voice over on these topics if possible. I absolutely adore your tutorials, specially the ones with voice overs. Those are the ones I watch the most and learn the most from because the way you explain makes things really easy to understand. I'd be happy even if you just added a voice over to your earlier time lapse videos particularly the ones about environments. BTW Congratulations on the success of your Kickstarter campaign! Can't wait to get my hands on your book.

Anne-Claire

Hi Loish! I second the art fundamentals, light, environments and perspective topics :) I'd love some more basics tutorials for the few of us who aren't already good at drawing :D Because they are so many classes out there but it's much more motivating to learn from an artist whose work really speaks to you. So basics would be lovely. Take your pick, anatomy, gesture, exercises for fluidity of line, how do you manage the missing gradient tool in procreate? (I created a giant gradient brush for now lol), light and especially multiple light sources at once, more environments, because your use of environment is like poetry :) ALso, a few procreate tutorials would be nice. Livestream and tutorials are awesome - your videos are always super helpful so THANK YOU :)

Johanna

I love the tutorials they are so helpful

Atılay Sargın

Studio Tour would be great for some chilling and relaxing! :D

Candykiki

Hi Loish! ♥ Maybe something about work-life balance? I love drawing and most of the time I feel super pumped up and motivated to do things that makes me sooo happy inside but sometimes I've got this overwhelming feeling that I don't do any progress and I will never get to the point I'd be fully satisfied with my art ;; v ;; It's so easy to get anxious thinking about your slow improvement and other (especially younger) people who are so much better than you ;; o ;; How did you deal with the pressure of your environment? PS: can't wait for the sign copy of your art-book! ♥

Grace Benedick

I'm definitely here for the tutorials. You are a great teacher. I would also second what some others have said here, going back to basics/foundational art topics and composition.

Joshua Baker

I am always interested in human anatomy and character design. Then learning to paint these characters in interesting ways.

Mandy Olsen

Man, you are amazing! I love your tutorials, but I need help with basics like body and face composition. Mine always look wrong or unbalanced...

Arktic

Hey, Tutorial is the reason for my subscription. I struggle a lot on hierarchy in my studies. How to simplify shapes and values, and how to make them relatively quick. For example I wanted to draw some passengers in a bus with a very nice lightning, and fail ^^ Thanks for all the work and sharing 🙏

journal leaf: a mixed media journal

Tutorials are my favorite type of content as well!!! It would be really helpful for me to see how you use lasso specifically on procreate since the color adjustment tools are quite different!

Megan Schultz

Personally, I would like to see more environment tutorials! I love to see how other artists simplify complex shapes. Another thing that might be cool is paintovers/ critiques of your patron's work.

eighthsun

Time management! As a freelance artists, I still struggle with amount of different work I have to do in one day, and it's super easy for me to fail most of them. Also, I'm very interested in tutorials about colors. The color theory is something pretty easy to learn, but when it's time to start drawing... I still don't know what to do. What is right and what's not. What is a strict rule, and what's fully on my wish. Plus, studio tour sounds really fun to watch!

Darkwings

I would like to see tutorial about character design and I struggle with digital brushwork techniques (digital painting), so it will be great if you could do tutorial about digital brushwork techniques.

ChrisiaDraws

Hi Lois! I really love the tutorials and would love to see more on light/lighting and building an illustration like a scene, I struggle with trying to push a piece from a portrait to a full blown illustration. Also a live drawing session sounds super exiting ^^

NEEMS

I have trouble with placing characters in environments. It's a little difficult for me to reflect the character's design in their surroundings and how to integrate them so they look like one painting rather than a character placed on top of a background.

Suki

Currently, I am struggling with facial structure and drawing faces from various angles. I personally love the tutorials and I find them so beneficial!

Suki

I agree.

Suki

I couldn’t put this into words but this is what I’ve been trying to say!

Amber

I'm glad I didn't sound too convoluted. I never learned the fundamentals, just kinda dived head first into drawing and now I'm stuck and can't figure out what's wrong. Like I see something's wrong, but can't figure out how to fix it.

ivanillo

I need help going from realistic to stylized. My background is in traditional portraiture and figures. I've been having the hardest time trying to simplify shapes into a more stylized look that I'm pleased with. I'm so use to being overly detailed. If you could share your thought process in that area it would be great. Also, I'm new here so if you've already done this, I'll try to find the video. I really thought it would be easy but, I was wrong. 😬

Ailen Colavecchia

Hi Loish! I love getting inspired by nature and traveling, but I find it quite hard when I come back home getting the energy and the flow to actually taking that inspiration and creating something out of it. I really enjoy all the technical videos, but maybe something more focused on the productivity part of being an artist full time and not just illustrating and drawing as a hobby. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge, I'm a big fan of your work all the way from Patagonia, Argentina.

AppreciationOwl

Hi! Tutorials are the best for me! I always learn a lot from yours, even those I thought I don't really need watching. What I'm struggling with the most right now is making interesting compositions, and even more than that - with drawing men in interesting poses. Most of the artists I follow - you included - draw mostly women because of the hair and curves, but how to achieve an interesting artpiece with male body which isn't either too muscular or so it wouldn't look female. I know I'm not really good in explaining what I mean, but yeah - how to create an interesting piece with male body is what I'm struggling with I guess. The other thing I'm struggling with is generating ideas with what and how to fill the space in portraits and stuff to make them more interesting - where to put them, WHAT to put there, like I don't know, flowers, lemons, etc.

Amber

You know, that's what really gets me. Books don't give you "homework" to do and that really grinds my gears. Like what do I do with this information? Draw it 10 times?

Liisa

I would love to see real-time sketchbook or sketching sessions with you talking through your thought process. Or maybe not talking but with the sounds of the material (no background music because it can be distracting). I find it helpful to do art studies while following the an artist's process, almost like a walkthrough.

Freya

Hi Loish, I struggle with picking colors the most. So any tutorials you can do on that, would be nice. And I’m also wondering if there are specific exercises that helped you move forward a lot? A studio tour is always interesting :).

Amélie

I would also add that a video for drawing men VS women would be really nice ! What's the main difference you spot in the anatomy ? Do you deal with the painting differently ? etc. ...

Jill Anderson

Hi lois, First just want to say I think your content at the moment it top notch. This patreon is amazing value for money imo. This is what I'd personally love to see but I realise these are mostly day dreams haha!! 1. I would love to see more procreate content. I feel this is the most accessible software that most people use and I've really enjoyed your procreate content so far. 2.Voice over on process videos. I know this is a huge day dream and it would probably require far too much work but I think it would be great to hear what your thought process was during these process videos 3.I wonder if we could have a patreon discord server? There are so many lovely members here I would love to see everyone else's work etc and even how they are putting your tutorials to practice! Once again thank you for putting such thoughtful content out into the world already. Always look forward to see what you will post next 😊😊

Jill Anderson

Sorry you are having a hard time. I can definately relate. I've found trashing my page a bit before drawing really helps. Or just doing lots and lots of like 30 second studies. You become less precious with them and get a good flow going. Hope you will turn a corner soon 😊

Loish

thanks so much for your feedback! i will definitely be doing more procreate content moving forward, you are not the first to point it out! as for a discord server, that's definitely something i want to do, but i want to offer that as a separate tier since it will require some more work and time from me. my schedule has been extremely full for the last months, but i have some more time coming up next year and i might just set up an additional tier with a discord, monthly assignments, and some feedback sessions included! so keep an eye out for that :)

Loish

this is a great idea, so sort of like a 'draw with me' video that others mentioned here?

Loish

these are great topics! thanks so much!

Loish

i love this topic and have so much to share about it. i will definitely add that to the list!

Loish

that is a very interesting topic that i talk a lot about in my latest book! and would make a great video - i haven't made one on that specific topic just yet!

Loish

you're not the first to ask for a productivity video! i have a lot of ideas about that so i'll definitely be making one in the future!

Loish

thank you! i'm considering setting one up for next year, so starting in january. i've been swamped for time this year but i've kept next year free so that i have some room to expand this patreon :)

Loish

ah yes! that's a very interesting topic! it's sort of like a more complex version of my latest tutorial on water, where it's important to break down your ref image into different 'layers' so you can simplify it. if you haven't seen it yet, it's here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/tutorial-water-57878344

Loish

thanks so much! i will be making a video about productivity / time management soon, and i think that would include the topics you mention! thank you so much for backing the artbook kickstarter by the way!!

Loish

thank you so much for this!! as someone who didn't really structurally learn those fundamentals, i sometimes forget to consider them in the list, even though i have a lot to share about them :) will definitely think of ways to tackle these topics!

Loish

that does make sense! i always want to translate my technique into something that's useful on a wider level, so maybe it would be good for me to focus on something really specific, since there will always be some interesting lessons that come out of that.

Loish

these are excellent ideas! thanks so much!

Loish

thanks so much for your in-depth comment, it's generating so many ideas for me! i really appreciate it :)

Loish

i'm so sorry you're going through that! it's so common and you're definitely not the only one! i'd love to talk more about that in a future video!

Loish

this has been suggested by more folks and is an excellent topic, i'll definitely be tackling that one!

Loish

thanks so much for this! as for procreate, i have to say that i'm not sure how most of those things work either! my approach is generally to just use the tools that i'm familiar with and ignore the rest, hehehe. here's a tutorial about my basic workflow in procreate: https://www.patreon.com/posts/tutorial-video-42911573

Loish

yes! i definitely want to do this but have to wait until i have more time in my schedule to accomodate it. i'm thinking of implementing this starting next year!

Adelle Gough

Everything you've done so far has been wonderful, you always deliver, so thanks! :) Personally I really look for ward to tutorial day haha! I'd love to see one on sketching, rendering and stylising plants and trees. I'm a herbalist and forager but I never draw the guys because the small shapes and high concentration of detail overwhelm me! I’m a huge Halloween and Autumn geek and feel desperate to paint the trees I see, but I just don’t win! I'd also love more tutorials on finding flow and really pushing shapes in bodies - I draw a lot of women and animals but want to lose the rigidity that I sometimes get stuck with - and drawing faces with traditional materials. I know you've covered expressions and poses already, but there's something about your face and head sketches which I'd love to dig deeper into, to know the thought processes behind where you put each line as you go and what exactly you’re exaggerating as you stylise. Your heads are pushed in such an interesting direction but never look like caricatures! <3 I’d also be interested to hear if you get that thing where you have so many ideas and worry you don’t have time to paint them all that you get super overwhelmed and then don’t achieve anything - or is that just me? Haha!

Emily Cartier

the official Procreate YouTube channel has a series on Brush Studio, starting here: https://youtu.be/gGcAIAUwrx8 From the sounds of your questions, the Stroke video will be real helpful and you probably want to hit it up next. There are no separate smudge and painting brushes, or even eraser brushes in the stock set. Any brush can be used to paint, smudge or erase. Whether you LIKE it is another thing entirely. Procreate 5.2 is reworking gestures a LOT to help artists with shaky hands. It’s not out yet, but it sounds like they’re very close to a release. It should have the Handbook out at the same time the update is out.

Kärla

I L.O.V.E. your tutorials, you're really good at explaining art stuff in a way that makes so much sense, I hope you keep them up! 🥰

Thalia Berard

The tutorials are really helpful! I especially like getting to see the one you did for inking on paper, as that's what I'm working on right now. I would be interested in a studio tour because it would be nice to see how your set-up helps your work flow (my set up is not serving me well right now but I'm not sure how to make it better). The other thing I'd be interested in is how you get inspired to draw different things? Or how you move through "artist block" is also something I've been struggling with lately. Thanks for all the wonderful videos and sharing your work!

Angela

Your tutorials have been super awesome! I think it would be pretty cool to see maybe a practice series of some sort - kind of like the artist workout series on Schoolism if you've seen those. Something that gets you drawing with you while learning something at the same time - maybe a series of mini exercises that takes you 30-60min. The part I struggle with most more mental than anything... I feel like when I was younger, I just drew cuz I liked it and didn't care much about how good it was. The older I got, the less time I had to draw yet the more my taste for what's "good" evolved. The gap between my skill and what I consider is good grew bigger, and the bigger than gap was, the less I wanted to draw because I can never execute what I have in mind in a satisfactory way. But you don't get better if you don't draw haha - it's a negative cycle that I find really hard to break, esp since the older you get, the easier it is to say life is busy 😅

dec

Oh, that's awesome! My goofy-a** just thought that video was how to do THAT cute/quirky skintone in the profile (with blues and whatnot). I didn't know it included ALL kinds. Thank you! Got my homework for the day. 😊❤

Joanna Stokłosa

I would love to say something less technical, like "a story of your success" - how did you become such a huge account + some tips for beginners in this field!

Freddie

Personally I enjoy just watching the process of a new painting from start to finish.

FaroreNightclaw

Wow, thank you so much for this info, this is super helpful!!

FaroreNightclaw

Thank you!! I'll be sure to check it out.

Cadaria

I would love to learn more on how you combine figures and backgrounds (e.g. how to choose the level of detalization and merge them visually). I struggle with combining detailed figures and backgrounds for commercial projects

Agnese

I also enjoy watching the process, especially when they are not edited or sped up so I can go back and see how you worked on specific areas. Livestreams would be also nice! On my side I struggle a lot in going from sketch to a 'finished' or more polished piece, so I would like perhaps to see more about how you learned about that.

Lima

I really like to see more tutorials - especially about what do you do in your job (character design on demand) and how you work and get into your creative process. I would also enjoy livestreams that can be watched later too. Im not such a big fan of speedvideos or timelapses since I can never really tell how you work in these.

Loish

thanks so much for this! that's a very common issue for artists. i think that a mindset/overcoming artblock video might be a good one to make in the future!

Riya Marie

I'm a little late with me reply, and I haven't read all the comments, maybe someone already suggested it - I really love how you always have a very expressive pose, even I'd say playful, and face too - you have such effortless expressions. My poses are really stiff and I have no idea how to make them look more relaxed, even when they are portrayed in action. I saw some explanations in animators books how to make a lively character, how to push it beyond realism for expressiveness but it never settled in my mind. You have such a great way of explaining things, not just theory, but also what happens intuitively, so I though it would be a great tutorial! Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us! And I hope you are feeling better too!

@feenonoke

What tips can you give us to draw fanarts but with stylization ( and not realistic portraits) ?? Thanks 😊❤️

Tina Kavčič

I'm a bit late to this but here goes.. the studio tour sounds interesting, I would love to see your working space. I'm also really interested to see a video about your commercial projects and maybe how it's different or similar to your personal work and how you approach one or the other. Also I would love some tutorial on how to pick references and how does this fit into your workflow. Thank you for putting this content out here for us to learn ❤

MIGUEL ANGEL GONZALEZ SANTOS

I would love to see how you design a new character, the whole process from inspiration to final piece

Sharon Tu

Creating character design and keeping shapes simple.

Loish

I'd love to do one, although I need to get the hang of my gouache workflow first! Right now I'm just kind of winging it and not sure what I'm doing, haha!

Loish

great topics! thank you so much!!

Loish

this is a great topic! thanks so much for sharing this :)

Harshit Katiriya

The regular process videos are awesome but it would be great to watch them with your audio explaining your journey of that respective painting

Creative Birdy

Creating make characters has always been a big struggle for me

Rihana Jones

BACKGROUNDS. They can be so hard sometimes. Striking the perfect balance of having a nice environment while preventing it from becoming too in-focus is a challenge. Sometimes its just knowing what to even do is a struggle.

Abby LeMaster

How you’re a legit BOSS at anything you put your mind to

Abby LeMaster

But also your ideation phase would be so interesting. Your composition is always so creative and fun, even when it’s from a less-cool looking reference photo. You elevate reference photos so naturally, it would be really cool to see more of your thought process.

Loish

thank you so much! a lot of folks want to know more about that, so I'll definitely figure out a way to translate that into a tutorial!

Anmaril

Late to the party but: I am struggling with the process, I am spending too much time painting things, I do like the outcome though. So, how to be more effective, the mindsets in the different phases, from thumbnailing to composition choices and color choices. How to apply more functions of PS to be more effective (I tend to think quite traditional when painting).

Loish

this is a really interesting topic! thank you for this suggestion :)

Anmaril

You're welcome!

Mari Roldan

Hi I'm late as well lol. I struggle a lot with coloring. I find that my colors always become dull and muddy and when I try to go from greyscale to color they're not as vibrant

Loish

that's a very common struggle! i actually really struggle with greyscale to color as well. i haven't really figured out an easy way to make it work. but i do have a process video where you can see how i manage it, even though the workflow shown there is a bit chaotic: https://www.patreon.com/posts/process-video-1-56182869

Artem Chen

Hi! New here, thanks to Proko I discovered your art=) I would love to see black and white value studies tutorial.

Loish

welcome to my patreon! thanks for your support here :) that's a great idea, I will add it to the list!

AC Moony

I personally struggle most with identifying what I want to improve in my work and what is working well for me. I really enjoyed the content and story behind your recent fall landscape painting. I love seeing where other people get stuck and how they chose to resolve something (and I even love hearing that you're still not sure about it). I think it helps me improve my artistic eye but it also helps me to feel less alone and like this is just part of the grind. Hopefully that makes sense!

Safaa

I would love to see ,more procreate videos / painting process ..on procreate / which is better procreate or photoshop???\ have u tried photoshop app on ipad is it great??

Loish

hey safaa! that's a great idea and something a lot of folks have suggested! i prefer photoshop, but procreate is a great app and more accessible to most artists. i have not yet tried photoshop on the ipad unfortunately!

Loish

that is a great topic! thanks for this suggestion!

Pavitra Pires

How do you deal with art block? What exercises can one do to break out of it perhaps? Also, sometimes I have so many ideas but am not able to act on any. I feel so overwhelmed by the idea of starting that I end up doing none. What are your everyday struggles as an artist and how do you deal with them? Sorry if this is a bit vague as a topic, hopefully it made some sense. Thanks!

Loish

this is great! thank you so much for sharing this with me :)

Robyn Jay

I am late to this post, but I'd just like to add I would love to see a resource on visualising forms in 3D! I struggle with breaking down reference photos into 3D shapes and therefore my drawings look flat as a result. Any tips on this would be appreciated ! Thank you :)

Loish

that's a good one! thanks for adding this!

St Montilla

Would love to see a studio tour!

Maggie Z

Process videos

Quokkasaur

I would like a detailed video on how to render. I mean the finalizing stage ❤

Leslie

your tutorial videos are so excellent!! Some possible topics that I would be interested in: - how to draw a single character in lots of different poses/with lots of different expressions while keeping them looking like the same consistent character - how to get faster/more efficient at drawing

Loish

those are great ideas! thanks so much!

Beatriz Espinosa

Hi Loish! I would love to see more tutorials about lighting subjects. How do you decide what color of light to use and how you mix it? You use so many vibrant colors, I love it, but I always struggle to understand the thought process and how it works.

2026-11-03 02:00 that's a great subject beatriz! I'll definitely add that to the list. for now, there's a "simple tricks for lighting & mood" tutorial that might help give some insights: https://www.patreon.com/posts/tutorial-video-41372669

I hope it’s not too late to add suggestions! Could you show how to make a painting look vintage? ( especially in Procreate) There’s a lot of appeal in vintage art and Gibson Girls in art. I especially loved your portrait of Evelyn Nesbit a while back.

Loish

that's a fun one! I'll add it to the list, but for now, I feel like it's a lot about the colors - using the faded sepia / black & white tones from old photographs!

Elle Meltz

I would like to see more environment tutorials and character design with like different facial expressions and angles
